What is? I burned a finger at work today. Not my index finger and I don't have a huge fat bandage like when Mitten chewed me, but its still my right hand! I have blistered now, still small, but I suspect it'll get bigger. I have kept it on ice most of the day - well, I'm not dumb enough to get frost burn on it, but kept it cold enough so it wasn't terribly painful. I can't get it in warm/hot water, that makes it hurt worse, but I now have Silvadene cream for it. The doc said to put it on, wrap it with gauze and keep it covered if it blisters.... I'll be getting some larger gloves so I can put the glove over the bandage so I can do things. Still, it doesn't hurt too badly unless I actually touch the burned area. I guess I'll be babying it for a while. I hate hurting myself, makes me feel stupid because I know better than to do the dumb things that I do when I do hurt myself. How about you?

I wish you had read my discussion about egg whites. I'm not sure if it's too late now but you can try beating the egg white, separate it from the yolk first, then beat it and apply it to your burnt finger. It helps to heal your skin fast and it has collagen so there won't be any scar as it helps restore your old skin back.

Great tip! The next time I burn myself I'll do that. Eggs are great for so many things when it comes to health and beauty. I've heard it's great for hair as well lol.

I found a site that suggests onion, and I put my finger in Maggie's onions and it seemed to help - while it was in there and a bit after. But now its blistering up quite a bit, but not that painful right now, but I did just put the meds on about an hour ago.

I was moving boxes around as my homeless house guest sat there and watched and didn't offer to help. Fortunately I did not hurt myself. But yeah, I hate it when I do something dumb, especially something dumb that gets me or somebody hurt.

If I had a homeless houseguest who just sat there I would find a way to not have such guest around. It wouldn't be "R" would it?

We do not realise how important fingers, hands, feet etc are to us until we lose their use. Then the easy often becomes the impossible. Many years ago I crushed my hand in a motorcycle accident. I had to have surgery could not use the hand for about three weeks. I became like a child again having to have my food cut up small etc. I hope that your finger heals quickly.

when I had my shoulder surgery, the roomie had made chicken soup, so I could eat with my left hand - even then I had problems, I'm just so right dominant!

I've burnt my thumb (the padding) or a finger right before the knuckle (on the side facing you) before and woo did it hurt. I usually ran cold water under it immediately and got to aloe vera as soon as I could after that. I'm not sure I ever used anything other then aloe vera for burns, except for maybe neosporin. One time I burnt myself on the arm, I'm not even sure which one because the scar is gone but I remember reaching into the stove and hitting the top of it, woo wee hot. We all do "stupid" things like this when we know we should be more careful.

I have burn marks on my arms from over the years! Mostly from cooking! Some I felt bad about but some could not be avioded! I have felt stupid when i have cut myself! Usually a finger gets cut! At work, too! One time I cut the tip of my left pinky off while cutting up mushrooms! I have cut the top of my thumbs a few times! It is embarressing at work but I feel dumb sometimes when I cut myself on a steel can cover when I am sorting out recycables! So I have had my share of cuts, burns, bumps and bruises! Luckily I make sure I get a tentus shot every ten years!

I ask for my tetanus shot after 5 because I KNOW I'm going to get hurt badly enough they will want to give me one. The doc balked the first time I asked for it, but then I was in 6 months later with an injury and got it. I said: see, you should'a given me one when I asked. I got one about 6 months before Mitten chewed me in 08. I think the longest I've gone between tetanus shots is 7 years.

I burned my index and middle fingers on my right hand (the one I USE) with hot chicken broth. It was a really stupid thing I was doing - pouring it from a big pan into a 1 cup measuring cup. I was holding the cup in my hand. Major overflow. Man, that hurt! I slept all night with my 2 fingers in ice water. Felt a lot better in the morning. Hope your finger feels better soon.

Thanks, I did something not too dissimilar but it was water. I spent most of the day with my finger in ice but when I got the med it felt even better than in the ice.

Nothing currently injured, but that could change any moment. Burns are the worst. I hope it heals quickly. Smart to get a glove to go over the bandage and keep it safe. I guess the worst thing I did was working in a restaurant I was supposed to be the cook plus wash the trays and things like knives. I cut my finger on a very sharp mandolin. Of course this happened on a day we were short handed. First hubby was already no longer driving. Three of us were trying to run the entire restaurant.

yeowch. I have scratches on my legs, not sure if it is from cats jumping then sliding down, or my own toe nails or hubby's. I would like to figure out that mystery. Cat bite, not fun.

I washed my arm and put neosporin on it right away, hurts a bit to touch, but not that bad - not like my fool sprained ankle!

To add injury to injury, Mo bit me pretty bad on my left arm and also got the right one a bit! I just wanted to figure out where the blood on his fur came from - never did figure that out...

I'm left-anded. I once had a horse bite the middle finger on my left hand. I couldn't write for a week! My teacher at the time, was scared of my mother, so I didn't get any homework. lol Get an aloe Vera plant and put the pure juice on a burn. That always helps me.

Happily, the meds the doc gave me fixed me right up, all that's left now is a little red discoloration. Stopped hurting pretty quick too.

How did you burn your finger? I have not burned myself deeply enough to blister in a long time (Knock on wood.) Sometimes I call my husband to take food off the stove or out of the microwave for me, because my right hand shakes. I'm more likely to cut myself with the rotary cutter.

all the time but worst of all is sometimes i cant figure where from i got an injury thats even worse. well we burn ourselves quite often if we cook a lot it seems or work with hot things when we get in a hurry to get things done. i get weird bruises and they are no longer blue but are red not like when i was young.

I totally agree. Maggiepie looks at injuries on my legs and I really have no idea where I got them. I also generally scrap skin off, and I take FOREVER to heal these days (I blame the fibro).

It's good that you now have the Silvadene for your finger. My first thought would have been to grab some aloe for the burn. Don't be too upset with yourself. We all injure ourselves from time-to-time--sometimes doing things that we really should have known better than to do. This is one of those things that is a good argument for being ambidextrous. I'm pretty lucky in that respect. While each hand has some things that it is stronger at, ultimately I would be considered as having become ambidextrous over the years--not that uncommon, I guess, for us lefties living in a right-handed world.

my one roommate is pretty ambidextrous, but the other is pretty dominantly south-pawed. There for a while I had 3 roommates - all left handed! I was in the minority! I can spoon food into my mouth with my left hand, but I need both to cut things, come to think of it, I guess most people need two hands to do that.

I have blistered now. I have heard about toothpaste, but I've also heard to not do it. I ran cold water on it and then put water from the fridge on it too. Its not too painful anymore, since I put the meds on it. Don't ya know, this morning I sprained my ankle! I am just an accident this week!

Oh that Silvadene is awesome stuff. I once had a horrible grease burn on the top of my left hand and now there isn't even a scar! I felt very dumb and it was a bad burn. I remember it was sleeting outside and I was holding my hand out the window all the way to the doctor.

I probably would've done that too! As it was, I got a cup of ice and kept my finger in that! I do tend to scar, more now that I'm older, so we'll have to wait to see if this one does.

Sorry to hear it! How did you come to burn your finger? It will certainly upset you for a couple days.We usually wash the affected part with tap water at once when we get some place burnt. In addition, we have all kinds of traditional Chinese medicine that treat burn. They work like a charm.

I spilled boiling water on my finger. I did run cold tap water on it, then I used refrigerated water on it, and finally stuck it in ice. I now have Silvadene cream for it, and actually it doesn't hurt too bad, except when I get it around something hot, like washing dishes, so I bandage it and put it in a plastic glove to do that.

Well, as others have said, I use aloe on burns. Just the other day I spilled boiling hot tea on my hand. I guess the cup slipped a bit in my hand as I was carrying it out to the porch, then of course, after the initial drop, jerking my hand spilled even more, As soon as I was able to set down the cup, I broke off an aloe spear and slathered the area with the goo. Didn't think to run my hand under water... And I'd like to know how you burnt your finger, too.

If I had aloe I'd use it, but I don't so I can't... I did burn myself at a church party years ago and the host cut a spear off and in an hour of so it stopped hurting and never hurt again - even after the blister burst.

Ouch, ouch, ouch! I hate when I burn myself and especially when it's my right hand..ugh! I'm such a clutz in the kitchen and at least once a week I'm either burned or cut, lol! I never heard of that cream but it sounds like it's helping you. Is it over the counter stuff? I mostly burn myself on my wrist when I'm going into the oven to get something out and accidentally touch the shelf...yeh duh. Or I take the pan out and put it on the counter and touch the aluminum..another duh. I hate burns.

It's bad enough when you hurt your non-dominant hand but hurting the one you use most is a real pain in more ways than one! Burns are the worst because they hurt the longest and heal so slowly. For burns I usually pop the blister and slather it with generic Neosporin and it heals more quickly. I'll leave it open at night and bandage it in the daytime so I can still type. I hope you heal up soon! Yes, I feel dumb when I hurt myself because a little forethought and caution would have prevented the injury, usually.

The doc didn't want it popped (probably because he knows I have all these cats!) The blister was only a half inch long this morning, now its an inch and maybe a quarter of an inch wide. I had to bandage and then cover my hand with a glove to wash dishes at work, but that's because I have to use hot water (never extremely hot, I can't take that ever) but I couldn't tolerate any heat on the finger - but I rinsed my dishes for the dishwasher in cold water so I just took the bandage off and did it bare handed. But - to do the cat boxes later, I'll be bandaging it again.

I don't either, tho I have to say that I at least know who to thank for part of what does save lives, my friend Elaine's dad was part of the team who worked with the Air Force to put together the burn unit, now at Randolph Brooks in San Antonio.

I got up at night without turning the light on. I know better than to do this, but being tired I did it. I ended up falling, and hurt my right foot. It feels much better now (it's been 3 weeks), but for awhile I couldn't drive and hardly walk on it. It was near the toes, it was swollen and bruised and still is, but the pain has gone away. I just started doing floor exercises because I use my toes to get up, and couldn't wash my hair for awhile. I use a bench in the shower, but to do my hair, I lean forward and didn't realize how much weight I put on my feet. Boy, did I feel stupid and I paid for it!

I go back when I wash my hair, you might try that - I hang the handheld sprayer often on my shoulder to free my hands to do so... no time like now to retrain yourself on how you do things...
