Michelle Obama plans grocery store makeover for second four years in WH

Michelle Obama has big plans for her second term, I mean her husband's possible second term. She's going to teach us how to shop for groceries and "impact" the types of food that grocery stores sell. http://cnsnews.com/news/article/mrs-obama-s-2nd-term-agenda-impact-nature-food-grocery-stores "We still need to find a way to impact the nature of food in grocery stores, in terms of sugar, fat, and salt." So Michelle wants to cut out sugar, fat and salt in the grocery stores. I don't know why I even have to explain why this is so wrong. It's ridiculous to try to regulate privately owned stores and tell them what they may or may not sell, simply because she doesn't want you to buy it. Aside from it being none of her business which groceries I buy and which I do not, it's interfering with the right of private business to sell legal products. As far as I know, cookies and snack cakes are still legal. If she wants to eat healthy, she should - although we know that she doesn't. OF course, Michelle was the one who had the nerve to scold Olympian Gabby Douglas for eating at McDonald's. If she wants more people to eat healthier, she should try setting a good example but she needs to realize that she cannot MAKE them eat healthier, and she cannot tell grocery stores what to stock.

All I can say is that no one will tell me what I can and cant buy when it comes to food. I will not be one to promote this crazy plan, and my voice will be heard loud and clear when I vote this November and not Vote for Obama. Remember people you can fix this problem we have just Vote, Vote for any one just not Obama. Take our Nation back.

While Michelle enjoys her short ribs and fried foods, she wants us to buy only healthy food. I don't think much of her leadership skills, she makes a poor example.

There's a lot of people who think limited food choices is the answer to obesity but that's just not true. Those people are too lazy to tackle the real problem--price. I'm not saying every fat person can't afford good food but have you noticed how many poor people are overweight? That's because the worst food is the cheapest and they have hungry mouths to feed. A busy single mother with two kids trying to make ends meet is not going to cook breakfast and pack lunches (school lunches are among the worst offenders when it comes to bad food). No, she's going to pour a bowl of Captain Crunch or generic sugary cereal because the FDA tells her that cereal and bread is part of a healthy diet. She can't afford orange juice. For dinner this exhausted mom is going to either serve $.89 pot pies or $1 frozen dinners or maybe pick up cheap McDonald's on the way home. If she had time to cook, though, why should she spend $13 on a 2.5 pound roast that makes 2 meals when she can get two dinners at McDonald's for that or 13 frozen dinners for 4 family meals and 1 lunch? Neither of the First Couple has a clue what the problems of this nation really are and how to solve them. (Or worse, they do and they are making things worse intentionally) I refuse to have someone dictate my diet. That's my responsibility. Start stocking up, people, if Obama wins this year. It'll get pretty bad.

What you say is very true, and I have been saying it for a long time. When a food budget is very tight, when you have food stamps, when you cannot access a discount supermarket, when you don't have the funds to buy produce and meat, then your diet is going to be the filling foods that are cheap. This is going to be pasta and processed foods, packaged foods that come cheaply - like boxed mac & cheese, for instance. These foods are also the highest in High Fructose Corn Syrup which has been proven to make you gain more weight on the same number of calories. I know how much it takes to feed a family. I budget and make up recipes trying to keep the individual serving under $2 each for a meal. This can be done, but since buying a lot of fresh food means a lot of food can perish quickly, it's not easy. The extended period of high gas prices has made the transportation of foods to grocery stores more expensive and eventually those costs get put on the consumer in the form of higher food prices. My cheapest margarine went up 40 cents in the last year or so, meat is higher, even frozen foods and packaged foods are higher. Yes, sometimes its cheaper to buy the $1 frozen meals that you can microwave, because that saves on electricity or gas (depending on your stove). And yes, McDonalds dollar menu is not a bad bargain when the family can't face tuna or spaghetti another night. If you are a mother with children on food stamps, you are more likely to grab the snack cakes that are ten for a dollar than the $4 bag of apples. And your goal is keep everyone fed as well as you can. That often means filling them up with pasta and packaged side dishes, juice drink instead of juice (99 cents instead of $1.69). Obesity would be less of a problem if mothers could stay home and cook, kids could come home and go outside to play and if mothers could afford to buy food that they can cook themselves.

Germany pays mothers (or fathers) to stay at home with their children for the first few years. They don't seem to have much of an obesity problem from what I've seen. If at least one parent could stay home and raise the kids, even if our tax dollars paid for it, we'd come out ahead in the long run by saving money on health care, chronic diseases due to diabetes and obesity and would probably see a big drop in juvenile crime and that would save billions right there. Why can't anyone see this?!

Has she not looked in the mirror lately? That big behind of hers didn't get like that by eating healthy. If she wants to regulate what her family eats that's her business.

It's more than just trying to make us eat healthier. It's the businesses that could be ruined, and not just the grocery stores. What is there left to eat if you cut out sugar, salt, and fat?

I just wonder if we'll be allowed to buy white flour, white sugar, salt or butter? I can buy all the ingredients to make cookies and cakes and without the high fructose corn syrup. Will they try to limit the sale of these items?

Healthy eating is the way to go for good health and long life. OMG how do you know if Michelle eats healthy or not? Are you sitting at her dinner table at night? I can't believe you think its ok to make such a statement like that. She for me appears very healthy and fit. As for trying to get better foods into our bodies its a good thing. I agree no one has the right to tell us what to eat. However, if we want to be healthy and not end up with horrible medical issues down the line especially for our kids we shouldn't be eating sugar, salt or alot of fats. Oh and by the way I for one can say at the age of 55 have never had a mcdonalds meal of any kind and never will. Its way to unhealthy and thankfully my daughters will never give my grandkids that junk either.

"I for one can say at the age of 55 have never had a mcdonalds meal of any kind and never will. " OMG Lelin! Guess what? That's your choice! Ain't it great to have a choice? Well, I know that a reporter did sit in restaurants cataloguing what Michelle ate: http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2011/10/11/michelles-bad-eating-habits-scientifically-chronicled/ And I know that she downed a 1700-calorie meal at Shake Shack: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2013707/Michelle-Obama-spotted-consuming-1-700-calorie-Shake-Shack-meal.html And you can defend her, saying that she has the right to eat what she wants and I will agree with you. I just don't agree that she has the right to tell me what to eat. Now, if you do sit down to dinner at the White House, you'll get some short ribs and lots of hamburgers, hotdogs and other such yummy treats as she served during the Super Bowl. http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2011/02/21/obama-short-ribs-dinner/ Good Lord, where does this hero worship come from? BTW, if I can't criticize her eating habits because she's healthy and fit, where did she get off telling Olympic medalist Gabby Douglas she can't eat at McDonalds? What's fat for the goose, is fat for the gander. I am an American with the right to buy and eat whatever I wish to buy and eat. You also have the right to buy and eat what you wish to buy and eat. Would you like it if someone decided you couldn't have those healthy foods anymore and to take them off the supermarket shelves? Sorry, you don't get to do this, this is a free country. Or, it used to be.

Hey,I said she can eat what she wants to. How is that being against her? Perhaps you didn't notice but she's not an elected official. She's not supposed to be regulating anything. I refuse to be a sheeple and be told what to do in my personal and private life. I think this hero-worship thing Obama supporters have going on is a little frightening though. It's like an episode of Twilight Zone.

You are just totally against her and everything she stands for and that is why you are writing so negative about her. I personally think she is doing a great job and I believe when it comes to the foods in the stores she is trying to help the kids of this world and their obesity problems. Manly because parents have gotten very lazy and will get mcdonals or any other junk food for dinner instead of cooking a homemade meal. Please don't tell me about how hard it is to work a full time job and then come home to cook everynight because that is exactly what I did. When we have kids growing up today that will not live as long as their parents because of the food intake that their parents gave them then that is a big problem to me.

When I heard about this on Rush this morning I wasn't surprised in the least. But don't be too quick to assume that if she gets into office, she could make a difference in what we are able to buy. Maybe she should move to New York and see how it goes over there before tackling the rest of the country. I'm sure Mayor Bloomberg would be happy to let his state be a guinea pig for healthier eating. Actually, Michelle doesn't really care that much about the poor. In The Amateur, p. 117-118, it states that when Michelle worked at the U of Chicago Medical Center everyone expected her to promote programs to assist the underprivileged people of the black South Side. Instead of doing that, she helped start a program that would save the hospital millions of dollars by shuffling the poor and uninsured from its emergency room to South Side community hospitals. Why? Because beds in the U. of Chicago's med center were reserved for the rich who wanted expensive procedures on which the hospital would make money. Kind of shows the true attitude toward the poor and also her willingness to support the policies of her employer to cater to the so-called 1%. the Obamas publicly blame for the country's financial woes. This whole thing isn't about helping people lose weight and be healthier. It's about more control over every aspect of life. Is the idea to put candy companies and those who make packaged baking mixes out of business? Does this show that Obama meant it when he said he planned to take over the other industries just as he did the auto industry? Maybe this is the hot button we need to reach those Obama voters who depend on food stamps. Wouldn't it be lovely if they'd make this play by executive order before the election and make food stamps only available for unprocessed foods like produce, dairy, meats, beans, and grains? Wonder how that would go over?

Sometimes there are people who are on food stamps who don't have proper cooking facilities and couldn't even eat on only unprocessed foods. Yes, it's about control. It's an attribute of the liberal psyche to think they know better than the average schnook how the poor schnook should live his life. They love to feel superior, and don't even see their own hypocrisy. Obama's regulator czar, Cass Sunstein, opined that sometimes people need help to overcome their inner Homer Simpson. Liberal, elitist, mutter mutter mutter....

I can see it now, black market, cartels and new gangs rising to power and fighting each other in the neighborhoods. Every time the government decides to outlaw something, new gangs come to power. Isn't that just what we need, and ever so healthy for our towns and children!
