I hate them! Especailly this summer! I get a few during the summers but this year I have been swamped with them! the problem has been form the steel cans I get from work which I recycle. One of the morning cooks has not been cleaning out the cans before he put them in a trash can where they are suppose to be put! Some times he wouldn't even bother breaking down the cans! He can be lazy and inconsiderate! Taking off the bottom and crushing them! So when I get the cans home I have to wash them right away or I have a big problem with the flies! I am so fed up I got after his butt the other day and made sure everyone in the kitchen contines to clean and break down the cans! I should no thave to deal with this!

I do not care for those little buggers either...they are so pesty and hard to get rid of. I know if you leave a banana around for more then a day they seem to attract them too.

hi jillhill My friend gave me a sack of ripe figs which I put in the drawer in my bedside stand. the next morning I opened the drawer and mostof the figs were overripe and oh my the fruit flies. I had q uite a time getting rid of them before a caregiver came in to make our beds but they followed me down the hall to a large garbage bin,. there I left them so I have no idea what anyone did about them but I am sure they dumped the trash right away . lol lol I think I got three ripe figs before they all went bad.

I had some around, the fruit flies, recently thanks to bananas! So I am not getting any bananas to eat for awhile! Then the fruit flies showed up in droves when the steel cans were not cleaned out! I stll hope that doesn't happen again! I put a note on the can where the cans are kept so that cook doesn't forget! He if does or anyone else,I will remind them! In the salad department I also left them a note because I was getting sick of one of them not rinsing the cans out before breaking them down! So far so good in the last few days and hope it stays that way!

Been down this road before with recycling cans. Never got really bothered by those fruit flies much. My bad situation happened when the ants found my recycling cache. Good grief I'd never seen so many ants in my whole life. There was a super highway of them going in and out of the room. Hope the guy got the message.

If he does this again or anyone else,I will let them know! This guy is only working becasue his wife is going to school where I work. Employees can for free, along with a spouse and the children. If this jerk wasn't doing this (she graduated in May and now is going for her masters),he would be putzing around his house and taking care of his kids more! He is on full Army benifits now thanks to an burn accident he had in the Army like 20 years ago! So if he didn't have to work he wouldn't!
