Christmas Countdown

Philippines

They said that Philippines is the one that celebrates Christmas the longest time since at the start of the "Ber" months, they are already anticipating the said holiday. Yesterday, I heard in the news that it is 100 days to go before Christmas which means today it's already 99 days and they are already starting their countdown. Furthermore, I saw in some pictures of my niece that they have already ararnged their Christmas Tree in their house. My wife told me to install ours too as well as the Christmas lights. I just told her that it is too early to put those decorations. How about you other mylotters, have you already started to decorate your houses or homes for the upcoming season? When do you usually start preparing and decorating?

We start the countdown in the beginning of December. Although the stores already have Christmas themed decorations and gifts from October and are decorated in November, most people start the countdown on the first of December, when the month of Advent begins. It seems enough to keep the excitement until Christmas, but at least in my country waiting longer would make it boring I think. Btu I know people who start it earlier, and who keep the Christmas tree till Easter.

That was really a longest Christmas celebration there, until Easter? You are right, putting decors this early turns the excitement to boredom.

I don't know if keeping the Christmas tree for so long counts as celebration, but I think it does. I have seen people keeping the decoration in the gardens too all winter. Well I know it's less hassle next year to put the decoration again, but it destroys that special atmosphere a bit.

At home, we start decorating come October. We do not have that big christmas tree though, just a standard 4 feet high and some christmas lights hanging outside the house. So at the moment, no christmas decorations are hanging in our house. Maybe next month.

Same in our house. Our christmas tree is not that extravagant. We only have 5 feet tall and some balls and lights on it. I think I will start decorating after the halloween.

Oh yeah.. its already Christmas month! hehe Well i can feel that spirit already in our workplace because our office now boasts of a very tall christmas tree, i guess about 2 floors in length! :D At our home, we have't really started anything with the decors yet. or probably we are not the type that puts up decorations haha =) Im excited for the Christmas season. It was quite a very sad one for me last year. I sure hope it is going to be lovely this time around for me, and i am hopeful. :D

Just remember the true essence of Christmas and you will be happy. In our house, we just put simple Christmas tree and some lights.

It's true that Philippines have the longest Christmas celebrations and i think its due to the natural happy mood of the people that you can even smiling faces in the midst of calamities. When my children were still kids we already have fully decorated Christmas tree by October as they love this. But we stopped having one their college years, Last year however my daughter said she missed our Christmas tree when they're still kids hence we had one completely decorated by end of September and this year we're planning to have it by October as we still need to buy additional decors to replace at least the 10% that don't look nice already out of the ones we used last year that we only kept.

I think yes, Philippines celebrated Christmas for the longest time, Just like the other comment, it started on "ber" and ended on "ary" months with a total of almost six months or half a year. Good for your to keep those decors and used it for another year. Just like ours, its been four years snce we have the decors and still they are in good condition. Just proper care and storage will make the decors last for years. saving us money because we only buy few decors for the next year.

Yeah there are some house who have Christmas decors in their houses like one of our neighbors who has lights in their terrace. No plans to put up the Christmas tree but just plan to clean it up. But still Christmas spirit is all over and could really feel now.

Yes, especially the weather that seems so cold every morning. We can really tell that the holiday season is already approaching. In our place, our neighboors haven't put their decors. Maybe next month or after the halloween, they will start to decorate their houses too.

when my mom was still alive we use to put christmas decorations 3rd week of September. She is always excited about it. But now that she's gone I am too lazy to do it again. Last year was the saddest Christmas for me because she's not with us anymore. I don't hate Christmas I will never will it is just I can't celebrate it anymore that way I used to do it.

I am sorry for that. That was really the saddest Christmas for you but remember that she is celebrating with you even you don't see her.

Well it is indeed infectious to feel the "ber" months since you can hear from almost all the malls the Xmas songs being played already. I think that would stop for a while when Nov. 1 comes then after that it will resume back until it reaches early January next year were we officially end our Xmas celebration. So far we just have talked about it but we never tried to put in anything as of yet since we feel it is too early to start decorating.

To add, we saw at the mall several items for Christmas were already displayed like trees and balls. I think you are right, the excitement for Christmas suddenly stops as the halloween approaches since it will give a long vacation opportunity for everyone. You are right too that it is too early to have decorations this time. I think I just tell my wife that we will put the decors after the halloween. She just suggested me to put the lights because our son will definitely enjoy watching them.

Hi, The disadvantage of putting up Christmas decor early is that it gets jaded overtime and when December comes its novelty has worn off. My wife used to decorate as early as this month but this time around, she has postponed the decorations until December. It also coincided with our annual town fiesta in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe (12 December) so the whole town gets a dress up like any other time of the year, fiesta and Christmas decorations all in one.

I think you got a point there, decorating this early will lower teh excitement. Last year, I started putting up decorations right after the halloween. Now, my wife requested me to start putting those decorations but I still feel lazy about it. Good for you that your town fiesta is celebrated on December.

Oh yes, Filipinos are that excited of Christmas indeed. I can already hear Christmas songs being played on radios and ABS CBN is drum beating Christmas. However, at home we will be putting up Christmas decors maybe after the Halloween.

Same her, I already started tohear Christmas songs playing in radio stations as early as the first of September. I think it is the best time to start decorating for Christmas, after halloween.

When i was younger, i start decorating as early as september and later as december... Sometimes, i feel tired having too much decorations on, so i just put something like lanterns and a christmas tree...right now seems like i feel lazy putting decorations... But i am excited to move to a new house perhaps i could have few decorations in it... But i cannot put gifts under a tree for sure my daughter would love to enwrapped it... But i am so excoted for christmas to come...

Perhaps that is the reason why you feel lazy to decorate the house because you are moving to your new one. I guess when you move in, you will feel excited to decorate it. At home, I just put fake gifts under the tree because I am sure, like yours, my son will try to open those.

The "ber' months start the Christmas spirit and it probably lasts until the end of the "ry" months... So half the year would be filled with something about Christmas, wouldn't that be nice?

Christmas is one special occasion for us Pinoys. It is the time we spend again with our family, a time of gathering and reunion. In terms of decorating the house, we put them up on December. I guess we just want to feel December as the most special month, such that only this month we start arranging our Christmas Trees and decors. However I wish we all bear in mind the spiritual meaning of this precious time and not just depend our reason on material gifts we receive.

Yes, the true spirit of Christmas must be shared and the one to be remembered during this holiday season.

When I was a kid, I enjoyed helping my mother decorating our christmas tree, but for now, I just watch them do it. I think the best time to decorate for Christmas is December, specially in our place where a lot of smokes and dust is coming to your home due to big trucks and vans that ply in our street. Putting up Christmas light this early is also a waste of money because of high electric bill.
• Philippines

When I was a kid, I envy my cousins putting up Christmas Trees because our religion is known for not celebrating Christmas. But when I got married, which makes me converted to Catholic, I was really excited everytime we put up decors in our house. In fact, I was the one incharged of doing it. Your idea is right. Putting up lights this early will make the electric bill shoot up. Also, just like what you said, living in a house near the street will make the decors full of dusts when Christmas time comes.

When i was still in college, around the last week of october i start to check the christmas lights. I clean them and change the busted bulbs. After all saints day, i start putting them outside the house.then i'll set up the old christmas tree that we use since i was 12. It was fun. Every year we buy some new balls and other stuff to hang in our tree. So every year, there is somethingnew. But we still keep the old ones. This year, i am so excited because i have my own family now and this is our first year in our own home. My 3 year old is very excited when i tell him about my plan of putting the christmas tree and him helping me. He really enjoys being of help to us and he feels proud after. Maybe, we'll stick to after all saints day christmas decorating. It'll be fun!

It was really fun making decorations. Like you, when we moved to our new house sometime in November few years ago, I was really excited to have decorations, we went to divisoria to buy our Christmas tree and decors. Last year, I put up the tree together with my son. he was 1 1/2 yo that time and really fond of the balls. Just like you, I always keep the old ones and just add few stuffs every year making the tree full of decors. Maybe, I should also stick to what I did before, after the All Saints day.
