Beam me to being 60 please........

I am 50 now and cant wait to stop working at that office. As I will not get paid any old age pension before I am 67 I am right now busily saving up money to bridge the gap between 60 years old and 67 years old so I can just resign from the office with 60. I have a herniated disc and diabetes and I think then with 60 its more than enough with almost 30 years at this place and a total number of 38 years working and being told what to do when to do it. Infact I am counting down the days like a prisoner. Dont get me wrong, please. Of course I will be the total couch potato for the first months, like thats the much deserved mega vacations. sleep when I am tired instead of telling me on Sundays like today, no nap or the night will be ruined. Having the luxury of just staying in bed when I have a cold, just like I battle it now, instead of getting up tomorrow morning at 4 am cause there are personnel shortcomings at the office and I cant get sickleave right now. Not forcing me to get up with a stuffy nose and these giant headaches cause I put the d*** office before my own health. Reading all the books I got me which are too difficult to read now after a full day of that office work which leaves me with a brain fog as soon as I get out. Having time to write snail mail which I love to do instead of having a bad conscience because my friends only hear from me for their birthdays plus Christmas. But then after some time of just lazing around and enjoying that couch potato time, I will also go to my Catholic Church and ask whether they have something nice for me to do. I am sad that due to all the work and hours of commuting every day I cant be active there right now. Who else cant wait for this time?

I work very minimally right now, and need to work more, to pay off some bills so that I can enjoy my retirement years. In three years I will be able to draw early retirement funds, on my own earnings, and then at 66 or 67 I can switch and draw on my deceased 1st husband's earnings as he earned quite a bit more. All of that is supposing the politicians do not change all the rules on me. My current hubby took early retirement because of not being able to find and keep a job. It is not much earnings however. He keeps looking for something else, something more, as he is almost 67, but would like to be active and do things. I hope we can all see and meet some of our dreams.

hi dear Gerty, its only another 10 years and when I get as fed up as I am right now I tell me I have less time to still spend there than what I spent there already. Most of my dreams didnt materialize so I hope this one does. I love my leisure time of nights and weekends and they keep me going.

i have a friend, an old man, he is now retired. one day while we were working, he told me stories about how he prepared for his retirement. his regret was that his company retired him early, at about 60 and years later, the limit rose to 65.

my, I would be in heaven if they retired me early but they wont do that. I am having so many plans for my retirement and think my time would be spent wiser that way than with office work.

hi rittersport oh m y they raised the rtieremtn to 67? I did not retire til almost 80 but I was 60 when my hubbydies so as his socioal securityu payt. was the higher I was given that and when I reached 7 0 I no longer had any money taken from my social security check so I could work as many hours as I needed. as you have health problems cannot you get ?Social security now? it would help you a lot. really.I kept working cause it felt better than not doing anything and I did need the money too.when I was forced to retire just before 8 0 I was so bored after awhile in m y room just not gong anything I lucked onto mylot site and I have been tere every since.

hi dear Hatley they raised the age to get old age pension from 60 to 67 in steps according to your age so I should work till almost 67 instead of retiring with 60 as it was normal for women to do for decades. My health is far too good inspite of the diabetes and the herniated disc to apply for SSI or such. My diabetes is nicely under control and that disc obviously doesnt pester me enough, LOL. I have so many plans for retirement, God willing and health then permitting. Reading all the nice stuff I hoard now, helping out in my church, moving so I can get us two kitties to keep us busy, writing snail mail as long as someone is willing to read it...... and maybe see some nice places if we still have enough money left then.

Dear Antiquelady, no I am not just wishing my life away. The prisoners list in my den keeps me going as I see how many work days are left till I am 60 years old I am a much happier person than lets say two years ago but the one thing I dont like is that I dont have energy left for the things I would like to do. So many books unread as they are no easy reading stuff, so many letters piling up cause I dont have the energy to answer them on weekends, my time would definitely be spent much more useful in church helping out there instead of slaving for a place where it is not even appreciated but either taken for granted or criticized. My boss is 15 years younger than me and can be a pain in the ...... sometimes. I doubt that anyone nearing the end of his or her life will say. Oh I wish I had worked harder and spent even more hours at the office. I want time to speed up a little bit cause there are much more fulfilling and useful things to do than slaving at the office......

You are long overdue a vacation. I think that 60 is far too long to have to wait. I won't be able to retire until I am in my 70s. I will have to figure something out between now and then. I can relate to most everything in your post. Oh the misery of getting out from under that heavy winter comforter at 4 am to get ready to go out in the cold. Especially when you don't feel good. I hope those days go by fast for you and then when you retire, they slow down just a bit for you to enjoy.

hi Jen, of course I take my vacations though we dont travel but have a relaxed time at home. Its more important to me to get out of that rat race when I am hopefully still relatively healthy and enjoy life....... Its not only these weird times of getting up and commuting but the atmosphere in my work place which makes the days drag like an old chewing gum.

Retirement age is a long time away from me and for that reason, I don't want to wish away a portion of my life. I would love to be able to go through a day of my life without pain and I would like to be able to take a vacation without really having to think about how we were going to pay for it. However, if I was going to be wishing some time away, I have to admit that I would really only be wishing away about the next five months of my life as that is when our credit cards will be paid off and things will get easier for us then.

Hope it works out with the credit cards. We dont have any so nothing to pay off here. That atmosphere at work makes it double hard to return every day so remembering that with every work day I will get closer to resigning there is what keeps me going...... it doesnt mean I dont enjoy my life in general I just dont enjoy work life any more with how the situation there has changed.
