I cook when I feel good

Most of the time I don't feel well at all. My nerve pain is so bad now in my back and hips that it is hard to walk most of the time. Once I get out of bed or out of a chair I am very feeble... but when I feel well, I can do very well for awhile. So I might cook supper at 11 AM, and then heat it for supper in a warm oven. That's what I did with the potato soup. Once it was done, I put it in the fridge and then an hour or so before SIL gets home I put it in a 275 degree oven to heat it through very well. It's in there now waiting for him to get home from work. I need to get me a new slow cooker whenever I can afford it, because I can't find the one I had.. it seemed to get lost in the move. It could be in the basement somewhere, but SIL didn't see it... so I don't know whatever happened to it. So, since I don't have a slow cooker, I put stuff in a really low oven to keep things warm after cooking them... that way we all get a hot meal at suppertime. I can only cook when I feel up to it, otherwise I'm in the bed until the pain leaves me.

I am so sorry for your pain. I can't even begin to imagine what that is like for you. I commend you for staying strong and trying to do the best you can. I do have a suggestion for you. I have a very large crock pot and since most of the time it is just me, my grandson and daughter here, I have found that cooking bags work really, really well. I throw everything in the bag as I would in a crockpot and slit the top/place it in a roaster pan and put it in on low. I actually use them more than I do my crock pot...they are amazing.

Well, it's good to know that you get some breaks from the pain. I do hope that things will eventually get easier for you. Yes..do try those cooking bags. I think you'll like them. Have a nice Thanksgiving!

Hi Sid. I do all of my work during the hours I am pain free. Some hours I'm in my wheelchair when I am too feeble to walk unassisted. When the meds are working well I do have a few hours rest from the pain. Getting up from a sitting position is really hard most times, but when I am relieved I do get a lot done. I like your idea of cooking bags. I'll look for some when I go shopping.

I would do the same thing, I just prepared a bunch of things for when I do the colonoscopy prep I can only have broth, jello and gatorade. So I prepared it now knowing after the iron infusion tomorrow I wont feel like it. I love the crockpot, and got mine on sale awhile ago. I have been saving up my online earnings, and also my amazon gift cards for free items for when I move out. I just got a kettle, toaster, and mixer, now working on the plate set.

You are doing amazingly well in acquiring things with your online earnings and amazon gift cards. I haven't had a lot of time to do Swag bucks. I spend my free time mylotting when I feel up to it.

I am trying so in the end it saves me money. I even going out and getting some more expensive nicer items. I am planning in the future to get bamboo cutting boards, and a stock pot as well. I do both, I usually do the other sites in the morning and then MyLot in the afternoon.

Yes I am. I manage quite well. I made the potato soup and I put it in the oven an hour before S go home so it would be heated through without scorching the milk on the pot.

Oh, I am very sorry to hear that you are in such pain. My mom on these 2 days are sick, and she can't cook for us either. I can't cook, but I still try to do my best I can to feed myself. Either make something really easy, or order a pizza. Anyway, if you are in pain at your body, you should take a rest, and let your husband do the work, let him do it instead you do it all.

I'm not married anymore. I cook for my daughter and son in law. My daughter doesn't do much cooking... she has some specialties she cooks, but she doesn't enjoy cooking much at all. I do. I have to do it during the hours I feel good. A couple of days ago I cooked for two days in one, because I was feeling good. I had the meatloaf I made the following night and only had to warm it in the oven.

Didn't you see a doctor so that your painful back and hips will be checked? It's difficult to move and do things whenever we are in pain. Anyway, I just hope that you can find a slow cooker.

Yes, I do see a doctor every 3 months .. he is my spine doctor. I may also have to have a hip replacement, and I'm dreading that. I had to have both my knees replaced with implants (total knee replacements), and that was a rough surgery to get over.. I really don't want to have to have hip surgery... my spine doc keeps me on meds to make the pain tolerable.. I only take one nerve pain cap (neurontin) a day, but I'm supposed to take it twice a day... but it makes me swell, so I don't take it as often.. thus I do have extra pain because of the nerve pain.

I hope you don't over due it. I do worry about you. It is nice that you seem to do all the cooking and grocery shopping but you can use help with some of the cooking and chores around there too. There is just so much one person can do and that is more limited when you have disabilities working against you.

Hi Cooking, I am taking it easy.. I have to. I only work when I feel up to it. I cooked two days meals in one day and just heated up the meatloaf yesterday that I made the day before. Oh I just now got your Christmas card. Thank you so much. I don't ever think to get them out in time. I do have some, but can't remember where they are. I can't buy any new ones due to my finances.

Wow, I can't believe you received the card already. We just mailed them on Monday...that was really fast. I start doing the cards Halloween weekend. Get all the envelopes ready and count out who to send them to according to my list from last year. Then during the beginning of November we split them out and write in each one. I do half and my husband does the other half. Then we mail them usually the day after Thanksgiving but things are a bit crazy here with 59 overtime hours last week and we didn't want to go out this week unless it was absolutely necessary. Glad you liked the card and enjoy the holiday week!

sorry to hear about your health. one of my neighbour, who lives alone, has the same kind of condition. she also finds difficult to cook but whenever she cooks, it is so delicious. occasionally we go to her kitchen and help in her preparation. she enjoys with us.

I am sorry to hear that you are in so much pain all the time. Do you have pain killers or something to take when it gets really bad? I have something wrong with my hands and arms, but I am not sure what it is. I have severe pain sometimes and other times they just go numb. I would guess it has something to do with my nerves. I do hope you find your crock pot or are able to afford a new one soon. It would make things so much easier for you. I love my crock pot. It makes my life so much easier with working and getting dinner done. I sometimes make several meals at once when i am in the mood to cook, so that I don't have to deal with it those days that I don't feel like cooking. Or when I make pasta I make a huge batch that lasts us for several days.

i try to do the same. lots of times though im just not up to it and we eat whatever someone wants to whip up and sometimes everyone has to fend for themselves. its why i like to keep a lot of bread, can foods and ramien noodles on hand. in fact im the one ends up doing most everyones laundry, cause they work and i mop the floor most times it gets done. sometime daughters lazy bf does the dishes. but i do what little cleaning gets done so i often dont have energy to cook. daughter is off tomorrow and supposed to do the cooking.

Hopefully, you can either find your slow cooker or get a replacement for it shortly. They are great for tossing in some chopped up fresh veggies, broth and spices in and having a beautiful soup within a few hours. It does make sense to do large batch cooking when you are feeling well and freezing the extras so that you can just do a quick reheat when you are not up to cooking.

I understand your problems. I have degenerative disc in cervical, thoracic and lumbar. it finally went to severe stage and I knew I had to figure out what to do fast. My Dr wanted to send me to a neurosurgeon. I have been going for massage therapy for over 2 years now. So I am now going to a chiropractor. I had MRI's and Xrays done so took the results with me. I also have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. So when I go for the chiropractor visits, even though we are seeing changes in my spine it just exhausts me. Like you I have a good day then 5 bad ones so it seems. so I tend to cook when I can and have leftovers. I am making a turkey but it has really been taxing on me this year. I hope you feel better. I have a walker with a seat which if a store does not have a shopping cart, it has become my best friend LOL Isnt it amazing how younger generations do not cook but yet sure love to eat when we cook LOL Dont stress yourself when you feel bad. I have learned if not feeling well that our local grocery has potato salad, and chicken that I can say heres your meal Bless you hon and take it easy.
