Started real budgeting and savings plan

Finally, we've got ourselves started with a real budgeting and savings plan for the family. The new job and good compensation plan from the company allowed us to make room for some savings, on top of our current investments. I really hope we could sustain this, and we'd be glad to see how much we've made in a year's time.

That's a great thing for you . I am always amazed by how much I manage to save when I look at it over time. It isn't much compared to the past, but every dollar counts nowadays where I am. And it's good to see you are able to both save and invest, the two will make your money work for you well, and that's the way it should be. Right now, i can't invest, unfortunately, but with any luck I will clear my debt and be able to do so again, now that our business is closing at the end of next month. The other half and I are a little old to be starting over, but that's life for you. Enjoy watching your savings grow

Yes, it's a good feeling of achievement and fulfillment to have started it. And, all we want to do now, is to keep it growing. We are looking at it as a forced savings, and will never be negotiable.

That's the way I do it-- and I pay my savings before my bills to make sure it gets saved as well. This can make bill paying a little tricky, but I can always find ways to save money or earn more, so it has been working for a while now.

Oh, the amount we put out for savings is just enough that we still have some to spend for daily needs and to pay the bills. But we make sure, we really get that amount in the bank.

I hope that you are getting on well with your budgeting and saving plan. Also I hope that the new job is going well. In 11 months time you will find out you have been successful hopefully. Last month I began saving in a regular savings account. After one year I will be able to get at the money and its interest. I am in the process of changing my current accounts. One of these is for everyday use and the other is for using when I am traveling overseas. I am trying to stay within my budget which I have worked out. Good luck.

You really have an account for your travels. That just means you really value traveling. As for me and my husband, we plan to use his incentives on our travel expenses. Those are extra money that we don't account for anything important in our daily needs.

It's hard to sustain these plans. I like to make lists, and charts, but after the initial excitement wears off, it then becomes hard to not spend the money that you know you have. I've been solving this by moving the money into other bank accounts so that I cannot see it.

Well, actually, I just wrote a follow up topic on this, and you're right. Our plans changed.

We got an insurance which we are paying up for 10 years. It's a good amount to have just in time for our kids to be in college. But, if we still have some profit by that time, then that money goes to our retirement and long time dream of visiting Europe.

I can sing many praises of living on a budget. But, from my own experiences I can also see how it is really easy for a budget to fail. In our situation, we were living on a tight budget for quite some time, but it did become something that fell apart when my husband had to go through cancer treatment. So, the main suggestion that I can give to a person that is starting with a true budget and savings plan for their family is that they should realize that there will be times that the budget does have short comings and a budget should be adjusted at that time.

You may be right. I think it's really not easy to work on a savings plan if you only have enough for your daily needs. If you have debts and loans, then, there's no point having savings. One must first clear themselves of those credits, before starting on a savings plan.

Great to read about your successful financial situation. Budgeting and saving isn't always an easy task, so congratulations on getting to this point in your life. I also suggest you invest in money certificates or time deposits if you have money that you won't need for a while, so you can earn more interest than a regular savings account.

I have thought of that, too. I just have to reach a certain amount before I start the time deposit plan, because I want to leave some amount on the savings account that I can easily use in case of emergency.

This is great news. Its hard to save money with all the expenses that we must pay each month. If it gets really hard think of something special that you will be able to use the money for in the future. We used our savings to buy a house.

Yes, buying something is a good motivation to save up. Or, have a bold goal for the future like start a busines or something like that. It gives you the boost you need to really force yourself to save.

I'm happy to hear that. It is really wise to save especially if you have a child or children. Hopefully me and my husband could start saving for our son's education. He is barely 2 years old but the cost of schooling is quite high now unlike before. Of course we want to send him to a good school.

And, school fees will just go higher and higher by the year. It really is wise to save up or invest on the kids schooling.

Congratulations on the new job and the compensation plan. In this day and age those are two wonderful things to have. It will feel great having a savings plan. I hope it all continues.

You're right. When we want to give the best to our family, it matters most to have a good paying job.
