Got our Christmas tree up

Christmas tree - This is our Christmas tree.

Thanksgiving leads into Christmas, and growing up, we always put our tree up on Thanksgiving night. Well, we were a little late doing it this year, we got it up yesterday, November 25th. We don't have all the decorations on it. The lights from last time don't work now... they never do for some reason. Our house is so big and roomy that we can have more than one tree. Right now we just started with one, but eventually we will have all three of our trees up and decorated. I want to get some Jiffy Pop and pop it so I can string it. I remember as a kid I always strung popcorn to put on the tree. I know it isn't much right now, but it does make me be in a lighter mood. I'm looking forward to Christmas this year because we are hosting it in our home this year, instead of at SIL's parents house. There have been years in our other house that we didn't put up a tree or any decorations at all because our house was so small. I'm putting a photo of our first tree.

that is great, I don't even have a tree or decorations anymore. The days are far in the past for us.

Yep. I can get the candles at the dollar store. I also want to get some apple cider and cinnamon sticks for some nights before Christmas. Have hot cider.

We didn't put up our tree in the last couple of years and i really missed it. I'm so glad we have it up this year and will put the other two up when we have the decorations for them. I need to get some candles to have a nice fragrance in the home... I want it to smell Christmasy.

Nice tree! My daughter and son in law were here over the Thanksgiving week, so I told them they'd have to help me put up the tree. I guess my youngest daughter told them that my tree was getting ragged (it was pretty sad), so they went to the store on a pretense and came back with a big, beautiful new tree, plus some outdoor decorations. I'm glad you get to use all the trees this year. It's so much fun putting up the tree and decorations.

Not sure how I'd handle Christmas without a tree! Enjoy them to the utmost this year!

Hi Peavey, How nice of them to do that for you. I know you must also be excited about getting the house looking the way you want it to. We have been three years without a tree up due to not having space in the other house, so I'm really excited this year. Two trees came with the house in the basement and we had our own also. My daughter is the most in the mood; she loves decorating for Christmas.

I've noticed some people do start Christmas directly after Thanksgiving (all the starting of Christmas tree photos from Facebook everyone is posting!). Growing up, I don't think we started that early . . . maybe about mid-December! Well, this year we have a house, so we want to finally buy a real Christmas tree this year. Previous years we've been in apartments and I had 2 dinky artificial table top Christmas trees . . . scratch that - we had 3, one of which was a metal decorative thing. Last year I bought ornaments on sale . . . so we are all ready for our tree when we finally get it. I was thinking we could then put away those table top ones - but maybe it'll be nice to put them up along with the "real" one - afterall by now they're just part of the family - hee hee. Ah, tis the start of the Christmas season!! Have fun decorating all your trees!!!

Hi Much2Day! Congratulations on having a new house. I think we only had a real tree a couple of times growing up. I used to feel sad for the tree getting cut down, so my parents got a silver tree and got a multi colored strobe light to go under it and it was so pretty in our picture window. We have continued to put up artificial trees since. I remember my best friend always had a real tree at Christmas. It was always so pretty with those old timey candle lights they had. They bubbled and the tree was gorgeous. We just have never had a real one since I was a kid. Have a great holiday season!

Such a lovely tree! Nice decoration! Though it's always weird for me to see American people's stories about putting up the tree this early... :D. In my country, we usually put the tree up on Christmas Eve (in the morning) or some days before Christmas. But we don't have Thanksgiving either, so there's no day that kind of signals the start of the Christmas season.

Yeah, it's different here. The day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday. This is where all the stores make big reductions in their prices so that shoppers can do most of their Christmas shopping done for cheap. I never go because the crowds of people are awful and I don't want to get trampled. People have actually gotten injured and even killed at Black Friday shopping. I'll never go.

That's a nice tree we don't put one up cause we go every year to our kids our house is to small and I don't know what my three dogs will think about a tree in the house. I could bet my little male yorkie would be so thankful cause he hates it when it is could and he would think he don't has to go outside anymore lol

i have all our Christmas decorations up but we won't put up the tree til after the 6th of December just because we have no time between now and then. we may wait until after the 15th when our daughter comes home from college, i know she would love that. last year, she couldn't help put the tree up because she had pulled a muscle in her leg and had to walk with crutches for a few days.

We have one little hanging tree up. The house is such a mess it doesn't make sense to put up too much. I do plan to look at Christmas Decor and do what I can tomorrow, hopefully I can get to the store before the kids come over and have what ever I get up so they can see it. If the house was clean we could probably fit two trees. It's five bedrooms, three baths.

We try to keep our house clean. It's so much bigger than the other house we had. The other house stayed messy because there was no place to put anything. Everything has a home now, and it is so nice to wake up to a clean home. Your house is bigger than ours, I bet. We have 3 bedrooms and a solarium, along with 2 bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and breakfast room and dining room. The breakfast room is really open to the kitchen and the dining room is open to the living room. It's very open here and I love it.

Well, in our Christmas tradition since I was a child in my family we use to make exactly the Christmas tree on December 8. When I was a child, he was a joy to pull out the boxes of the shaft, mount it piece by piece and decorate it with: balls, garlands, lights and more. Then, when I grew up, my younger brother wanted to keep this family tradition too. Although now I'm 37 years while he has yet 26, and therefore we are no longer a child, still make the Christmas tree on the same day. Of course, our enthusiasm is still different than when we were kids.

That is awesome that you are keeping your family's tradition. Our tradition was always Thanksgiving night. I like keeping up with childhood traditions when they seem to add to the lives of the family.

Stringing popcorn is a tradition in many homes but remember you now have a new puppy and dogs like to eat. Putting any food items on a tree could be a disaster if he sniffs out the attraction. I had a tree up one year with artificial little apples on it. It looked beautiful. The cat thought so too and started licking them even thought they were fake. The dye caused problems and a large vet bill. We no longer put the apple ornaments on the tree or any other food item any more. Chocolate is bad for both cats and dogs. Candy canes aren't good for them either. Just something to keep in mind.

Hi Cooking. Our Rosie is a basset hound. She lives outside now. She is over a year old now. No animals live in our house. Rosie tore up our other house, so she isn't allowed in this house.

That certainly puts a fix on the food on the tree issue. Poor baby! She wouldn't have been sent outside if there was someone able home during the day to train her. That takes a lot of time and energy. Hope she has a little house out there for cover from the sun and other elements that may be. Hope you are feeling good or at least better. Will have to give you a call this week if things let up. Mom just got out of the hospital and my brother too so it has been hectic. Talk with you soon!

The cats love the Christmas tree they think its a giant toy for them to crawl through. We add a few lights, and decorations but we cantput any popcorn, or tinsel on as the cats will try to eat it.

Oh, don't I know! When I had Sassy, she would jump up in the tree and people watch. It annoyed my daughter but I loved it. It was so cute to see her there. She seemed to like to play peek-a-boo. Since I couldn't have a cat when we moved to our other house, another Mylotters took her and have her a forever home.

Oh no! Someone came into your room and stole your money?! I'm so sorry that happened to you. I know residents don't get to keep much out of their social security when the home takes their part.

My daughter put our tree up last weekend, a whole week earlier than we normally do, thought we should be different this year. We have lots of tissels and lights on the tree and it just looks real nice and neat sitting in the corner of the sitting room. We also have some parcels under the tree as well. The cat no longer trys to climb the tree, he always tried to climb it when he was a kitten.

Wow, your house is so big. The tree looks great. My mom didn't bother to put up the Christmas tree this year because she's getting annoyed by the kids taking her for granted last year. They sing Christmas carols in our house almost every night from the time we put our tree up. Imagine the expenses from those kids and then on Christmas time, they will ask again for money. That's too much so I agreed about not putting the Christmas tree. So our house isn't that Christmassy as yours. Before, we have so many lights in our veranda and I remember the Christmas tree with so many gifts under. Here's our Christmas tree last 2010. No more gifts because Christmas was over.

You got a nice christmas tree right there :) We are also already done putting up our tree. I was actually the one who designed it, my family members just helped me put it up. It is really good looking since we added many decorations on it. Also, the lightings makes it more beautiful.

I like the old ones like Chestnuts roasting on an open fire (don't know the actual title) and Ble Christmas, and Bing Crosby's White Christmas.
