A couple of weeks ago I got my youngest cat fixed. After I picked him up they gave me a baggy of goodies. One of them was a thing for brushing the cats' teeth.. lol. Well, I left the bag in my car and never gave it a second thought. Then tonight I was cleaning out my car and came across the bag. I looked in it for the first time and noticed in addition to the cat toothpaste.. they also gave me a little fuzzy mouse for my cat and a picture of him which the vet and nurses had signed with some sweet comments about getting better soon, and how he'd been so brave! It was really sweet and touching and I wished I'd seen it sooner. A nurse had also called the next day to check on how my cat was doing. That's so nice. Does your vet go all out to make you and your pets feel cared about?

When I was in Florida, I had to have my cat neutered. It was a simple surgery and Dishpan Sam recovered rapidly. We picked him up and brought him home and deposited him in his bed (which was in a dishpan). A few days later we received a get well card for the cat, addressed to "Mr. Dishpan Sam". We still have the get well card.

If people are nice to our pets, it's almost like they've got a friend for life, don't you think?

Aw, Cute!! Why did you name him Dishpan Sam? Do you just call him Sam for short? When I was little I named a cat Sally Jessie Raphael after the talk show host.. we called her Jessie for short. Her sister we called Charlie, I don't remember what her longer name was.

Sammy's story is really cute. Mom had gotten called for jury duty and I was left to wander around and shop. I happened by the local pet shop and spotted a sign "Free Kittens". Of course I had to go in. I spotted a large, lanky, long legged, cat with a really long tail. It was love at first sight. Of course I knew Mom would have kittens herself for my getting another animal, so I rounded up a box with a top and cut holes in the side. I collected the kitten and put him in the box and secured the lid. Then I sat in the park and waited for my Mom to finish with Jury duty. She walked up to the area I was sitting in at the park and had me call the dealership where we had taken our vehicle for servicing. As we were sitting at the picnic bench waiting for our ride Mom finally asked me what was in the box. I looked at her and told her that "I got ya somethin". About that same time a paw came out of the box and started feeling around in the air. Mom sighed a huge sigh because she knew she wouldn't win, and at that same moment the shuttle to take us back to our car arrived. We got in and the paw promptly started patting at the driver, who about jumped outta his skin from the surprise. We finally got home with the new house member and let him lose. The first place he headed for was the work room, on the floor was a dish pan. The took one look at the dish pan, climbed in it and promptly settled in for a nice long nap! From that point on he was called Dish Pan Sam. Sammy for short.

That was really nice! What a great vet. I've had lots of vets and even the really expensive ones never did that. I have a good vet now but he doesn't give out presents. At least I don't think he does. But I started going to him after my cats were bigger and had already been fixed. I don't think mine can afford to give out presents. He's not as expensive as other vets. So he doesn't have a really fancy office or a lab. He has to send everything out to a local lab for testing and it's still not as expensive as the ones who do their own lab work. He has a big old Victorian house for his practice. It's not beautiful by any means. But he does this so that more people can afford care for their animals. He also takes in a lot of cats. The house is a 3 story so there's plenty of room for them. He doesn't live there. He does a lot of the farms in the area too, as well as small animals. And he practices holistic veterinary medicine if you prefer. He's very good and he truly loves animals. He will meet you at his office anytime for an emergency. When my 19yr old Persian's kidney disease finally got bad he met me there on a Sunday night. Afterwards he asked if I minded if he said a prayer. I thought that was really nice of him. It was a prayer for animals. I wouldn't switch vets for anything. And I bet you wouldn't either.

When you find a good one, you gotta stick with them.. because there are so many that aren't good at all. I got my other cats fixed at a clinic, and it was a terrible experience for them. It was cheap, mind you, but the female cat was dropped off and picked up same day and was still groggy when I picked her up. Last I knew females had to stay awhile longer because it is more invasive surgery for them. When I picked up the male cat they were doing construction on the building and it was loud with hammering and sawing! These poor cats going through heck and they didn't seem to care... personally I would have put the clinic hours on hold during the renovations.

You're right. When I had my females spayed they always stayed overnight, just to make sure they were okay and if you bring them home groggy they could get hurt trying to jump on something or falling down the stairs. I would bring them in early in the morning and pick them up the next afternoon, late. I think that clinic was in it for the money. They sure don't sound like they cared much for the animals. Well, live and learn. I'm still thinking about the goodie bag you got. A picture and everything. That's really cute.

The clinic was really cheap, like $50, and they were all volunteers.. so I couldn't complain much, but I wasn't happy about the stress they put my cats under.. which is why I brought my youngest to the vet instead. I had to pay a lot more, but I got my money's worth.

That is the sweetest thing ever! That would certainly ensure my business with them. My vet did call the day after I took Annabelle home after getting her fixed. I thought that was nice of her. Then when I brought her back in and Annabelle had a UTI, the day after seeing her for that, they again called to check on her.

When Eclipse had a UTI they called us to let us know how he was doing while they had him. Then we brought Draco in for a check up and they asked how Eclipse was. While Draco was being fixed they called around noon to say he was done and doing well, but wouldn't be ready to go home until later. I appreciated that they kept me informed so I didn't worry all day.. and that they were nice enough to check up after the fact too.

No, I do not have any pets but I have not heard of this being done out here. ~Where I work, we have three wonderful dogs and a cat but the vet comes to us and checks them out as well as giving them their dhots on time etc. I like him coming to the house and seeing them there. They are happy too. I thnk that your vet is marvellous. Keep with him because it sounds as if they really care about your pets. The photo was a lovely touch

I thought so too! When Eclipse had a UTI and we were broke, and they said they'd work with us on payments.. and we were able to pay them 2 weeks later when I got a paycheck.. I knew then I was going to keep this vet for life because they were more concerned with getting my cat healthy than with getting paid. We called a few other vets before them and they weren't interested in trying to help us because we weren't an official patient.

It's just so precious and cute! I don't have any animals (because I'm allergic to fur, unfortunately... but I LOVE cats!!!!), but I've never heard of a goodie bag like that in my country. It's really nice that they think of the clients and provide them with useful little gadgets, so they don't have to spend the money... and a little gift for the cat. But what I like the most, is the photo. You know, a toothpaste is something that can be bought in every vet supply store, but the photo... it is really personal and unique and just friendly and... well, wonderful. Oh, and her calling you. I'm sure you're really grateful for such caring and professional vets!

That is such a sweet thing for them to do, and something I'd do, if I were a vet. I would love it if my vet did something like this. It really shows that they care for their pet patients as if they were their own children.

Yes, my vet is really good too - they treat the animals well and everybody I have ever spoken to abut my vets agree. He really knows how to handle them as well as being a really good vet. Lots of people who have had pets who have had to have procedures with him, have always said how pleased they are with the service and they way he speak to the pets and treats them. That was such a nice touch from your vet and it really makes you feel more comfotable about haing to go to them doesn't it?

Awwww, that was really nice of your vet. Hope your cat is doing well and is recovering well. we had our cat fixed years ago. He is also fine. The vet who did it was very nice and careing and came out ot talk to our children about the op instead of leaving it to the nurse to do. There are still some kind people in the world

Wow! Your vet really knows how to care for your pet and you. This is really touching. I don't have a pet and my sisters do have cats but I'll bet that their vet isn't as good and caring as yours. The clinic is a good find. Try to endorse them to your friends so that you can repay them for their kindness.

Your vet is really sweet! It was so nice of them to give your cat some treats but the photo was probably the sweetest. It shows that they really do try to remember all the animal patients they have. Our vet is nice too, very sweet. She remembers us and our pet immediately and tries to be friendly with out cat. I say tries because our cat is afraid of the vet's office and goes crazy while there. Still, she gives him his shots even if he's so uncooperative. Though she's sometimes a bit busy and isn't able to reply to our messages immediately --exempt of course for life-threatening one, she responds to those ASAP. She doesn't charge stray cats and dogs her vet fee. You just pay for the medicines used. It's her way of encouraging people to adopt strays and make sure they get the proper care they need.
