No wonder I make so many typos as I have again got a siege of carpal tunnel syndrome. I tell you frankly its really the pits. I can stop and the blood will again flow into my hand and maybe I will be okay for a long time and again like tonight maybe I am ready to throw my keyboard out the window and maybe my hand too. Your take fellow my lotters. what can I do to get rid of this?Help.

Do you have a wrist brace you could wear? That sometimes helps. Generally speaking, surgery is about the final route with carpal tunnel.

That was my first thought....a wrist brace. It might help a little and keep your fingers from getting numb. My daughter has carpal tunnel in both wrists. She had surgery and they told her it's a 50/50 that she won't get it back. She did get it back after a while so the surgery didn't work for her, unfortunately.

Oh, yeah, hernia is WAY more important! Now, you want to hear about my double procedure? At that time my OB/Gyn only worked with one hospital, but he didn't want to knock me out for the procedure I needed. However, when I needed shoulder surgery right after he told me that (like in a couple of weeks), I called him and had the two docs do it at the same time (well, the OB/Gyn ducked in before the orthopedic guy went after my shoulder.) So, I got a two-fer...

hi ElicBxn and Kashmeresmy cat yes I think finally I am going to have to get a wrist brace but am waiting to get my catalog from United Health care as they have a perk where we get to order free over the counter medications and wrist braces and other types of braces.I think I get one every three months so am about due. If I can get one free that will be great. As for surgery I think my hernia is a lot more important to get repaired than anything else. Its an abdominal hernis and its been triggering abdominal cramps from my diverticulitis. So the sooner the better.

Something that often seems to help is to wear a brace or support. I actually have some with copper thread in them that I have had for years, but I cannot always find them. I also have a tennis wrist band and it seems to work just as well for providing that extra support. You would want to take it off every so often because you do not want to mess up your circulation, but I do find it to be helpful for my right wrist especially.

hi GardenGerty every three months I get a catalog of freebees for over the counter meds and devices with a certain dollar amount and in there there is always a brace for people with carpal tunnel syndrome so when I get that I am going to send off for the one for my right hand. This catalog is from my health insurance. also I will get tennis wrist band and also try that. hanks for the tips.

Allknowing gave you a great page, one I am keeping. I don't have carpal tunnel, but remember when I had tendinitis? If you scroll down the page allknowing shared, about a 1/3 down, second picture of a guy in a sleeveless blue shirt, the exercise he is doing is what I do when I feel my wrist start aching and it work to keep the pain away. So maybe experiment, find out which exercise(s)works best for you...

Do you take breaks? For example, after replying to a couple posts, take a 2 minutes break and stretch? Breaks are very important for our wrists...

I developed carpal tunnel Syndrome when I cooked at an Italian resturant. I cooked alot of pasta dishes! I did alot of flipping of the pasta dishes while they were being cooked on the stove. I cooked them in medium skillets. My carpal tunnel got so bad I had suregery in 1998 on both arms. I've had no trouble since.

We all have tired hands after a while. But you can go and get that software that you can speak and it types for you. I think its called dragon or something like that. It is a speech to text program. That might help you with your typing. And give your hands a rest.

hi inertia and echo I am not sure I could afford that but it would be lovely if I could as it would spare my wrist.I think I will have to get a carpal tunnel brace for my right wrist and I will have to wait til I get the catalog from my HMO as it has all over the counter things and they are free up to fifty dollars.so that might really help me a lot. I can ask my doctor for more help as all he said was to rest my wrist and stop typing. Now how can I earn on myhlot if I cannot type?

My sister-in-law who lives in B.C. had to see the doctor and have an operation. I do think there are wrist protectors or you could do exercises to strengthen your wrist. I broke my wrist and I canon write by hand for any length of time, therefore I have to type everything. I do wonder whether you could get Dragon Dictation and say the words.

hi suspenseful I should have sent for the carpal tunnel brace for mr one every three months so this time I will send for it and get it free. I have heard of the dragon dictation but whether it would work on my computer and also whether I co ld afford it would be the questions. It is so annoying how so many times something that could help me has to be too pricey for my budget.

It is expensive, but since I have a Mac I get a talk to text program free. When I broke my wrist they told me to put on a wrist protector but it got in the wy of my pen. The Dragon software is expensive. I have a free one for my iPad, but hardly use it because you have to speak a certain way.

Maybe when you get this it is actually time for a break. I get it occasionally myself and I feel it is break time and so I get a rest. It sure hurts too. I don't think you can get rid of it. I got a pair of braces I would have to wear on my wrists and forearms but it made it very hard to type. I don't use them.

hi celticEagle yes it was so apparent last night that I had to stop and I kept on bu t I do not think its wise to do that. At times It will not bother me while mylotting but will wake up in the middle of the night with my hand asleep and starting t o hurt as blood comes back into it.I can get a brace for my right hand free when I get my HMO freebee catalog so am waiting for that. I am supposed to get one every three months.I knew last night I should have quit but if I had my roomie would be nagging me every five minutes with"how much longer you gonna stay " She wants me to go to bed at 8 pm which is really stupid as I would just lie there and toss and turn. My bedtime has been for many years ten to 11 pm.I have not gone to bed at 8 since I was a child.Sometimes I wish I had a private room but no I have to have company I guess.I do not dislike Kathy as she has Alzheimer and is quickly losing all her memory . I help her all I can but last night I realized something she is truly selfish maybe thats because she is senile I guess. She seldom ever cares about me or my problems as she totally focused on her pains and pain meds and sleeps all day.

I think that all of us active members here would be suffering the same condition. And I guess the only way to get rid of it is to slow down a bit in getting online and let our hands rest. Yeah right! Well, there really is no stopping me now, most especially if I have the time to be online. But seriously, you can do a few things at home to help your hand and wrist feel better: *One should stop activities that cause numbness and pain. And you should also rest your wrist longer between activities. *Put ice on your wrist for 10 to 15 minutes 1 or 2 times an hour. Try taking a pain reliever to ease the pain.

I have not ever had carpal tunnel syndrome but I would suggest talking to a doctor about it. I believe it requires medical attention. If you have already seen a doctor, what has he or she suggested? I have now and then seen information about the problem but do not remember what i read. Aren't there devices that you can wear on your hands or your fingers that will help?

I can totally relate to what you're going through! I had carpal tunnel in my right wrist and had surgery for it in 1983. I was miserable before the surgery, but the surgery really helped! Then in 1987 I had to have emergency surgery for carpal tunnel in my left wrist. If I had put off seeing the orthopedic doctor another three weeks there would have been serious damage to the wrist and hand!!! I had mentally turned off the pain in my mind so I never noticed the symptoms until I had dropped a rock on my foot, it was a crazy way to find out that I was having problems with the left wrist, but it worked. I couldn't hold anything with that hand, move the fingers, or use the hand for any kind of work or support. After that surgery I was fine again. Bill has carpal tunnel syndrome and had an injection in the right wrist. It really helped and he is still putting off the surgery even though I am gently urging him towards going through the surgery. It takes a couple of hours and you're bound up in bandages for a few days but the relief is enormous. I will look through my natural healing books and see if they have any suggestions for relief. The main part of the relief for carpal tunnel is to get the swelling in the carpal tunnel area reduced, so maybe icing it will help. Don't use heat as it will increase the swelling. I wish I could do more for you right now, but we just got home from town and I was checking my email and had to answer your discussion.

I deal with a compounding pharmacy that's in Lompoc California, and this morning I got a call from them (probably because I haven't filled out their darned questionnaires yet AGAIN!) asking questions about one of their products I use. It's a pain gel roll on that you can use for localized pain control. It is really great and I use it nearly everywhere! The woman from the pharmacy asked me where I use the stuff and I answered it (after a giggle) that I use it everywhere because there are few places that work well anymore. She asked about my medications and I started to list the meds and she got a good laugh too! I wish that people would realize that even though they're young they still need to take care of themselves. I know that the abuse I gave my body was horrible and I'm paying for it now. As a friend said about getting old and in your golden years: "The only thing in your golden years that is golden is your urine!" I wish I were closer I would give you some of the roll on for you to try, it might help relieve the pain...

Hi Hatley, I have some nerve damage in my wrist and fingers from the way I slept a while back. It's healing but it is quite a lengthy process. In the meantime, typing especially is very frustrating. The hospital gave me a brace to wear which is the same one used by people with carpal tunnel. It helps me a lot but it is pretty awkward to wear. I am better able to type but I do sometimes find that the brace will hit keys that I don't want to hit. I'm getting better at holding my hand so that this does not happen. And don't worry...we can always understand what you are saying and we really don't care about your typos. We all make them.

I am sorry to hear of your medical condition of carpal tunnel syndrome. You need to rest your hand more often between doing works or activity involving your hand. You can take medicine, do some stretching and strengthening exercise, and perhaps go for acupuncture treatment to treat your carpal tunnel syndrome. Actions must be taken earlier to prevent the symptoms getting worse.
