What wrong with the country -- no budget passed by congress is the main problem

Government spending is out of control. Reid has not allows the senate to bring any budget to the floor for over four years, despite the law that says they have to pass a budget every year. Many departments in government has increased their own budgets by anywhere from 50 too 500%. There is no budget by congress limiting them. So they have free reigns to spending what they want. We need to get the message to the Senate to pass a budget. Reid needs to go to jail for not passing a budget for over four years. The house has passed many budgets but the senate will not even look at any. Budgets are the congress way of limiting all of the government spending. Without one the departs run a muck. We have to change the senate to change anything in the congress. 2014 has to be a big change. They are not doing their job.

How about getting the Republicans in the House to approve a tax increase on the very rich? A poll on the the very rich has found that over 60% are in favor of paying more taxes. We need a tax increase on the wealthy to start paying down the deficit.

The Republicans already approved a tax increase on the rich. It was part of the fiscal cliff deal that passed almost 2 months ago. How much money do you think you can actually raise by increasing taxes on the rich? Even if we taxed the rich people's income at 100% it wouldn't be enough to balance the budget. We need to cut spending and that's where the democrats aren't willing to do anything.

Taskr36 is right. That tax raise has already happened. But you know what, none of that money is going to pay down the debt. Step 1 to control of finances is to make a budget. This is the advice of every single financial adviser regardless of their political affiliation or the direction take afterward.

Burrito, and what will that help in way of the budget? This is only a lefty political talk by the left to distract us from the real problem, lets get to the route of the problem. Beside you can take all the riches money and it would our government for about ten days. This really helps. Please think about this. Please get real!

Crazily enough Obama did actually make his own crappy budget. Do you know who put it up for a vote? Republicans. It was voted down unanimously in both houses. Saying he should go fire people in the house and senate just shows how little you understand about our government. Obama is not king. I know he wants to be. I know many of his minions want him to be, but that would be the single worst thing imaginable and would likely result in a violent, bloody revolution to remove him.

He did put a budget up. Not even his own party voted for it. Senator Reid never put it up for a vote. It is sitting somewhere in that black hole of his desk.

yeah, you are right. everything is wrong when a branch of government is not doing its job, but it proceeds as if business as usual. the budget has to be passed to guide the government on how and where to spend the money. without a budget as you said, the spending goes astray and uncontrollable. there should be no free rein in spending. with fiscal cliff crisis, the government must be prudent in spending.

Your first responder illustrates one aspect of why we can't get this done--distraction. See how the question is ignored and an attack is made using a completely different, but vaguely related, issue? Also, nothing will be done because the Democrats and the media keep up a constant barrage of blaming the Republicans for everything and the public believes them. Your simple facts of the senate refusing to pass budgets that the house approves is hidden beneath a barrage of class warfare and feel-good publicity stunts. And speaking of budget concerns, no one seems to realize how much it's costing each and every taxpayer for our president to criss-cross the country campaigning. Yes, he's still campaigning! Any other president would use the media to get out his message but this one has to travel everywhere to promote his issues. And the public doesn't seem to care how much it costs!!! The public is the problem, they believe everything they are told. The 51% who voted him in and re-elected so many is Congress are stupid, gullible, lazy, and apathetic as long as they get theirs, whatever that is.
