Well as strange as it may sound, I have started my christmas shopping. I use to do this all the time when my childern were small..I would start early and most of my shopping was normally completed by July/ or August... I have only 2 grand children and they don't want much but they are expensive,,,so I am getting a head start, that way I will not be stress come December... Go ahead call me crazy

I don`t do much shopping for Christmas so it is never a stress and I don`t spend much. My Christmas work during the year means recycling old jars where I will place the goodies that I`ll make for everyone. I only buy a little something for the smaller grandkids, such as a book or a toy.

I don`t like at all those people buying just anyting they see at Christmas. On top of that, we are in the middle of summer in my country. I would not like to go shopping with that weather. So it`s nicer to be in my kitchen making jams and relishes for my people

Like I say to each his own...I don;t make jams of relishes and neither do I even care to...I don't know where you are where "people just buy what they see"..I have not idea what that means ..But I love summers here and have no problem being out in the weather... and its only nicer being in a kitchen making jams and relishes if one wants to be there..,,,so its not even nicer for me... thanks for your feedback....

I have a friend who also do early Christmas shopping but she starts by midyear and by October she sees to it that her Christmas list is complete and are just waiting for distribution at Christmas.

Yes this is a nice practice as you will do away with Christmas rush and save a lot as prices of goods at Christmas are much higher compared to lean months. One drawback here is funds as most people specifically here in our country get their Christmas shopping allocations from their bonuses and 13th month pays which are normally given on weeks before Christmas of December.

I have been avoiding starting because my home is so small that I don't have a lot of storage space, so I have to clean and declutter before I can really be organized about next year's Christmas. Are you sure your grandchildren will still want the same items by next December? That is the concern I would have, because kids' interests change over the year.

I think there are others like you, who wants their Christmas shopping done as early as possible. I believe it helps saving one from getting involve in the holiday rush and all the stress the comes with that, but I think there are downsides to it as well. For example, if you bought a shirt for somebody, like your child, then come December he/she seemed to have grown so fast and then the gift you bought does not fit him/her by that time. Another example would be buying a toy or equipment for somebody, then in the months to come that somebody was able to purchase or acquire from somebody else that same thing for him/herself, then he/she wouldn't probably want to receive the same thing for Christmas. Anyway, these are just my thoughts on the cons of this but for me,I still think that shopping early for Christmas is a good thing.

As long as you are confident in this plan, then I believe there really isn't anything to worry about. One other positive thing about this is, they are sure to receive presents. So as early as now, let me greet you then, Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Well thanks for your response..But believe me I have done this enough times to know what I am doing..buying a shirt or toy and worry about it not be appropriate at the right time is the least of my worries,,Other wise I really would havw not made this decision... Its really not a problem when you plan properly....

I don't see how that is crazy at all. I think it is best that you start as soon as you can. Lots of people go to the after Christmas sales and start picking up items that are greatly reduced for the next year's holiday. I think it is best to shop through out the year instead of trying to drain the bank accounts and charge up the credit cards at the last minute.

Thats probably one reason you haven't thought about Christmas because you don't buy present for your family...

I am surprised to hear that you prepare for the Christmas gifts so early Usually I will just do it in December. I don't think it is late. As I found it is a painful for me to buy something but have to keep it until the Christmas. I am afraid my passion will be gone. Especially perhaps later I can find a much more suitable gifts. So I don't want to buy the Christmas gifts so early.

I remember once my BFF started her shopping in May. By Christmas she had all kinds of stuff going on. It's not crazy at all. It's really smart to start early and catch the sales as they happen. And in December they just up the price on stuff so they can put it on sale.

Far be it from me to say that you are crazy because that actually sounds like something similar to what I'd do. You see, I learned from an early age to do my shopping off of clearance racks and therefore every time that I walk in the store I will look over the clearance racks and I will see if there is anything that I might be able to use for a Christmas (or birthday gift). I've not actually gotten started with my Christmas shopping but I did start on birthday shopping for my nieces a couple weeks ago (their birthdays are in September and December so I'm getting started).

Well, Crazy, I guess I'm joining the club I made my list last month and I've started, too I've always had a jump on it, I guess I'm usually done by September or so (I knit and crochet a lot of them, too) it really helps the shock to the wallet and, besides, I HATE CROWDS!

I don't think I will call you crazy, but I sort of admire you for having a budget for Christmas shopping this early. My pockets are still reeling from the past holidays' spending "spree" that I am trying to recover and save up still.

Its not crazy, rather its more on doing it really early. Though I understand why you're doing it because Christmas shopping can really be stressful, especially when you do it During December. Much better to start early to avoid stress and hassle, though for me, starting early means doing it on September :)

That is great that you can start early. I have not even thought about Christmas yet, but I will be soon so I can start making things to sell by September. I am going to look into smaller craft fairs and see if I can sell things there. I was thinking of selling at the swap meet, but I may not make as much money. My grandparents have many people to buy for and they start early as well.

See you are like gifts, quite thrifty with doing crafts,,I just don;t have that patiences...But good luck to you and the craft fairs..It just seem like the thing for me to do this year..I am sure it will help me in the long run... have a good Sunday.....
17 Mar 13
I would not call that crazy. Things are getting more and more expensive and the sooner you start the better. Just about every year I tell myself i am going to start my shopping earlier instead of doing it all last minute. For some reason it I find myself not doing it though. I think if i had a place to store things or the extra money then maybe I would but I still cant say that I would for sure. I am not sure why I do not start earlier though.

It just so much easier..I don't have any storage room but like I said my grands are 14 & 20..So I will not be buying toys or anything thats going to take up a lot of room..I will start by purchasing one thing per month until I am done..I also have a son and daughter to buy for...
