Quit without securing another job

Most of use will try to look for some other job before we quit our current one. Usually companies will require employee to give at least 1 month's notice before they leave the job. The new company do not mind waiting for a month or so. In my case, it is very hard for me to find another job. I am required to give a 3 months' notice due to my job function in the company. It will be hard to find a new employer who is willing to wait 3 months or who is able to pay off my current company. Sometimes I feel like quitting out of frustration.

I do understand your concern. It is indeed very difficult to find an employer who would wait for three months. If you do not have financial problem, it will be possible for you to quit the job and look for another job. I guess you are in the best position to know your position. I wish all the best and able to make the right decision.

Part of me is telling myself to not work for another company. I have been working for more than 10 years. Yes, I did move up my career path but I feel tired. Right now I feel like doing something that does not require me to sit in front of my computer all day long. I prefer selling stuff and get cash. Buy my stuff, pay, leave, no more questions, no more follow up. lol

I just changed my job. My company also had a three months clause and my new company was willing to bide the time. In fact, I also took a month long vacation after the three months, so actually they were waiting for 4 months. But you are right not everyone is willing to wait that long. Cheers! Ram

Wow, you are so lucky. I guess your skills are highly in demand. I don't think I can get such a good deal. Well, my life is not just about a job. I still want to hold a job but at the same time I am building my own business. No job is going to last forever. We have to look into the future. What is our income streams when we are no longer under employment.

Waiting 3 months before you can leave? Do they pay well enough to guarantee you will still have the other job in 3 months? I have never heard of this one. Most of the time I have heard that 2 weeks is usually good enough. But personally in todays economy, I could never imagine quitting a job without having something else lined up.

I think about this a lot but never have acted on it, which is a good thing. Unless you have a lot of money saved up I think its a poor decision!

Don't let yourself be tied to that job because of that reason. They will have to pay you severance pay and you can use that while you are seeking for another job. I am sure you will be able to find one quickly. I suggest you resign no matter what the circumstances because I can understand your current job is not making you happy anymore so what is the point of continuing? Try to ask your local labor office if it is legal to require 3 months of notice for any employees who want to resign. I think that is not legally acceptable.

Wow, Cutie! I'm impressed. Not only do you know the details of employment law in your own country, but in Malaysia as well!

That is a frustrating situation. I can't see how 3 months is a fair amount of notice to have to give, at all. Are there many jobs available in your field? You might want to quit, and then spend the 3 months job hunting. It's risky, but otherwise you're stuck. (That might be the reason for the 3 month requirement).

Most of the jobs that I have had and my daughter only required two weeks notice. Though I do know what it's like to not have another job before you quit. I saw my daughter go through that and she wouldn't really even try until her and her husband would really need a second paycheck. She is very happy being a house wife for now. Now that they live with me and my husband, she still likes being a house wife and his one paycheck is perfect for them.

Your company seems really want to make sure that nothing goes wrong for them. 3 months of advance notice is not unheard of. but it is indeed quite rare. i htink maybe it also acts as a deterrance to employees. becuase employees might feel that 3 months is too long. Furthermore, it makes it kind of difficult to secure a job before you quite becaseu i'm not too sure if the other company will wait for 3 months for you.

Even in my organisation too we are required to give 3 months notice before joining another company. But its OK I would in that case utilize my earned leaves and will join the new company.

That's really hard. In our company, it is 2 months notice. But the smart thing to do is to really find a job before losing one. Although they said three months, but you can have a month only. It is possible already for a month only provided that you were able to turnover the responsibilities properly because it might affect your recommendation.

We should always secure our future and unless we save enough to sustain us for several months without working, then quit the job at once. But if not the case, it is always better to find a new job if we are planning to quit our present one. If for any instance, we find a job which could not wait that long, then that is not a good one that we can choose to replace what we have at present. Have a great day!
