Did Jesus Christ [PBUH] ever called his disciple Christian. Is there any verse in the Bible as such to prove that He called his disciple 'Christian' or the religion he preached was called as 'Christianity'.I have not read anything like that.If I'm right he used to call them as people of Israel. Was the word 'Christian' used in the period in which Jesus was alive ?

The term "Christian" was not in use during the time that Jesus was alive. The word Christian is more of a political definition. It was used to separate Jewish people from those who "followed Christ" which is what the word means. In the Greek, they would say "Christos" which was a translation from the Hebrew "Masiah" and "Christianos" meant "those who follow Christ". They were also called Nazarenes.

Here are the Bible references: Acts 11:26 King James Version (KJV) 26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. Acts 26:28-29 King James Version (KJV) 28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian. 29 And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds. 1 Peter 4:13-16 King James Version (KJV) 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. Here is a question for you? Does the word Christian appear in the Qur'an?

Hi juniorance, The followers of Jesus called themselves Saints but Jesus simply considered them his disciples. It was at Antioch that the believers were first called Christians(Acts 11:26),and it was meant as a derogatory term. The times we much different from today and the church nothing at all like we see it today. Blessings.

Acts 11:26 "...The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch." Before that, I believe, they were called people of The Way.

I think you have your answers already. I just wanted to ask what inspired such a discussion? Jesus taught many different groups of people & may have addressed the crowds as 'people of Israel' (again, nothing to do with Christians), or words to that effect, perhaps on a number of occassions.

From the eyes of the Jewish people they were called the "sect of the Nazarenes", Acts 24:5. From the eyes of the gentiles they were called "Christian", Acts 11:26. Either way, it makes no difference.

No, of course not. They were first called Christians at Antioch a few years after His crucifixion, when enough people were following Him. During the time He was here on earth, He wasn't interested in starting a sect or movement so there was no reason to call his disciples anything other than friends. The rest came later, after Paul spread the Gospel to other areas than Israel.
