My bank thinks I'm odd

I applied for two savings accounts one emergency, and one emergency animal. So I can put so much away each month, not my other savings accounts are in a different bank which I can't access. I also have another saavings account for my yearly car insurance and other expenses like what I owe the government. They called me and asked if this was right, that I applied for 2 savings accounts, and that I already had one. I said yes but it keeps me more organixzed, instead of me writing it down, putting this much in for this or that, then loosing it, then trying to figure it out.

Really? I don't think that's odd. In fact I think that's pretty smart to get organized like that. I know a few people who don't have a grip on their finances - they should do something like that - just so they won't gobble up all their savings and wonder where the heck all that money went!

Yep. These days you gotta save up "something" because you never know what can come up. My parent-in-laws never budgeted and have made some foolish financial decisions - no wonder they got in deep doo doo debt!

I know a few people who are like that as well. I wonder how they can even afford life and pay their bills half the time.

I think there are some people who simple can't budget, or get going in that aspect. I use to work with a lady, when ever she got paid it was gone. I even set up an account through her bank and she was putting $10 away a month (better than nothing), she would spend it on useless things. She is still like that to this day, I gave up. I like knowing I have money for medication in my account in an emergency, I don't normally touch it but I know in dier needs I have it.

I don't think that there is anything at all wrong with what you are doing in regards to the way that you are handling your money. There is no limit to the number of accounts that we are allowed to have and I think having several accounts with different earmarks is the best way to do it. If everything was all in one savings account, then you would be more likely to spend money on things that are not what the money is actually intended for.

You are right, I would get confused, and loose the paper with what I had written down.

They should just be glad that they get your money. It really does not sound all that odd to me. In fact I have read some financial planners recommend doing exactly what you are doing.

I have watched some of those shows where they show you how to plan, and everything. I want to put away a chunk of money, and not touch my savings. I am cutting back on a lot of things right now, and putting the bulk of my income away.

I guess they wanted to make sure you hadn't gone senile. I'm not even sure if there is a limit to how many accounts one can open up like that, I guess it doesn't matter really.

I was wondering that as well, it"s a high savings account. It went through, so I will be putting money away now each month, and keep more organized.

I guess bank's want business so they don't care, but I'd watch out as you know bank policies change, could start feeing you for some of them. My checking account is fee'd every month becuase of a new policy they have.

My chequeings account is $4 a month, and the savings accounts are free, and credit card free. But only because I have good standing and credit at the bank, otherwise I am not sure of the fee (believe it's either $15 or $25 each per year).

i don't see anything odd with that, they should be accomodating you more as you are opening more accounts, more income for them i guess... and as for you, i find that smart actually.. nice.

It's true, it keeps me more organized, and can see what's in each account. I want to put away $4,000 for emergency vet bills, and $10,000 for emergencis such as roof, apppliance goes, then each month once I get my own place put $50 or $100 away.

Theres alot of people who keep multiple savings accounts for emergency funds, vacations and other savings. Some banks wont allow you to have too many separate accounts. I have 3 separate checking accounts a savings and a tfsa. My ing chequing is actually used as a savings account at the moment as to take money out i have to transfer it to one of my other accounts or pay an ATM fee and i dont want to do either.
