Do you have a weather radio?

My hubby just found one that works at Salvation Army a few days ago. Our weather forecasters always advise that people should have them. I think he wanted one in part of him becoming a trained weather spotter as he took the training course thru his work. So far it's gone off a few times and all in the wee hours. To say the least we had a storm that came thru around 1:30 this morning I probably would of slept thru it like everyone else in the house but I'm a MOM and we sleep with one eye open I swear! Do you have a weather radio? Do you find it useful? As they say with there sometimes being the posiblity of tornadoes in our area it doesn't hurt.

I don't have a weather radio but Verizon calls me whenever there are storm warnings in my area. I know what you mean about sleeping with one eye open. It happens the first night you bring home the first baby and never closes even if they leave the house because then you watch out for your husband and any animals in the home. Mom's never sleep.

That's a good feature to have on your phone. I don't use that carrier nor do I have that feature. Yep that's true it's hard for a Mom to get any sleep. As it is I get up early to make sure hubby is up as he likes to oversleep..... snooze buttons are dangerous in this house especially if one needs to get to work on time.

Thanks. I'm assuming there are more than just those for north Texas? Obviously, I don't have one. I used to have one of those old-fashioned analog barometers, though. Also one of those little Bavarian-type houses where a boy or girl came out, depending on the weather.

Oh I'm sure there are I'm not even in Texas ;0) I think my Grandparents had them if I recall when I was a kid too! It's cute but it surely won't wake you if there's a tornado or something severe in the middle of the night.

We have one somewhere. It is not set up. It is a good idea. I am glad your hubby got one at a good price.

Well young lady I hope my post has prompted you to locate it and perhaps get it set up. If I recall you are in tornado alley?

Yep,that is my address. I believe the radio is up on hubby's dresser. If I ever make it home while I am awake I can look for it. We also are near one or more of the local sirens.

We have one but I've never heard it go off, not sure if its working right. Bought it new, maybe I just haven't figured out how it works.

It is good to have a weather radio. We don't have one yet, but it is on my "to get" list. We really should have bought one while we were in Florida; that should be part of every hurricane prep kit. Thankfully, we weren't there through any direct hit by a hurricane.

There have been tornados here so it's good to have one. And as I said now that hubby is a "spotter" he feels very strongly about owning one.

We've never had a weather radio and I really don't think that would be something that I would really want to have. First of all, we do live in an area where it is rather rare for us to face extreme weather. In addition to that, they aren't something that is really easy to find and I'm not going to go out of my way to buy something that most people really don't keep any more. However, if I was to stumble upon one for little or no money, I might decide to invest in it.

I don't have one....I live about a block away from the sirens though and so an alert system is close by....my friend has one....they live out in the country by a lake and can't hear sirens etc for warning so it's nice for them to have one at their disposal...if it weren't for that when tornado is around they wouldn't even know it!

We used to have a scanner here. It picked up police / rescue reports as well as the weather. I have an app on my android tablet that does the same, and it can pick up not just our local weather but weather in any state or country. It is a benefit to have, especially when the electricity goes out, provided my internet is charged (hotspot) and the tablet too!

No I don't own a weather radio, I just listen to the weather, on my radio to see what the weather is going to be, from one day to the next day, I use to have a small radio it was blue, that I would use when we would have storms, but I have to buy me another one, so I can keep up with the weather, these days, and I always have batteries.
