But i know alot about common sense. Something not too many people nowadays seem to use.. What has happened to people that they don't think before they speak? or realize they might be hurting someone?..using their mind before words?.Words that can do damage and then need to be repaired. Thinking how to fix something before it gets worse?..Do it the right way the first time, instead of Mickey mouse it till it breaks?

I couldn't agree with you more. So many are 'book' smart, but totally lack common sense.

Honestly people either don't know what they are saying or can't express themselves properly.. Loads of them all around. You take care.

You should always put yourself in the shoes of others. Do not treat them in some way you would not enjoy. Bright or dull we need all the colors @Rosekitty and we need reminders that we still all color basically the same way.

Some more people find common sense too common and they want to show they are not so common

It is sad when someone hurts another with their words. They may not realize they hurtt them, so they probably wouldn't apologize either. The sad thing of it is, that once it is said, it can't be taken back, so you are right that people need to weigh their words carefully before they speak. In other words think about what they are going to say before they say it.

I am not immune to having said something and ruined everything. I regret it tho. That is the difference between controlling unthinking eedgets who like to do it. Love to be able to steer clear of them.

Yes, common sense is a lost characteristic. My sons are extremely smart (let's put it this way, my 8th grader is in honors algebra) yet something as simple as if you put your clothes in the laundry hamper, they will get washed.

I have an 11th grader that does very well in school, but she is also the kind of person who if a bus were coming at her full speed she would stand there with a huge grin on her face and try to hug it.

I blame instant messaging. People are so used to being "out there" with everything they think all day, every minute. They don't take time to consider what they are saying or how it will be heard by others.

@Rosekitty It is too late now. Please can anyone explain to me why my family laugh at me for once announcing "tents for pigs!" when we went past a field of them with sort of tent like pig shelters.

Hey, I've never claimed to be the brightest crayon in the marquee! Doing things right the first time is definitely better than doing it wrong and trying to fix it. Trying to piece it back together after doing it wrong isn't any fun.

Ha! My daughter is always complaining about this about her best friend and how she never thinks before she says something. My daughter does have her moments. Sadly, the dingy gene makes an appearance on my side of the family from time to time and my mother-in-law can be that way( she once decided it would be a good idea to vacuum out the VCR and broke it) so I can't fault the dear girl. But, she thinks how others will take something before she says it.

You can't teach common sense, you either have it or not, and too many people in this world have none of it.

@AbbyGreenhill I somehow have to agree with you. I too know a few people in person who are highly qualified and one of them is an Engineer too, but the simple common sense - they lack it. Interact with them for more than 10 minutes and you get the feeling.

@Rosekitty I believe your are either born with it or not....Common sense is a basic ability to perceive, understand, and judge things, which is shared by ("common to") nearly all people, and can be reasonably expected of nearly all people without any need for debate I know several people who are highly intelligent (Mensa members) who had wonderful caring parents - they have no common sense and some don't know when its time to come out of the rain.

But you may be part of the Crayola brand - the brand that everyone knows they can trust. There are many cheap brand crayons out there - and their crayons are lacking - some are even toxic! And it is that way with people too!!!

That is true . We should think first before we speak . See to it that what will come out our mouths is something that cannot hurt other people . Less talk , less mistake as the adage goes .

Actually, using the brightest crayon may not be what the picture calls for. One thing I've learned a s a carpenter, mechanic and artist is not so much about not making mistakes, but finding a way to correct them. As far as people? You never know what words could be said that may upset them. The best you can do is try to convey your thoughts as clearly as possible.

I think people have learned from watching TV to spout the first snarky thing that comes to mind rather than to give consideration to what they are about to say before they say it.

We need to understand, not everything we have to say is important , especially , if it is something spiteful that is meant to cause pain. Too many people try to create pain instead of happiness.
