Could This Be You?

My diet's going well today, I've had no pies or fries, If I can keep this up all day I'll soon reduce in size. As yet I have been really good, No burger's passed my lips, And neither have I eaten pud, Nor chocolate nor chips. And in this world of which I dream Oh yes, I'm getting thin, I don't partake of cakes and cream, And bread stays in it's bin. Oh well, I'd best get out of bed, I've lain here far too long, And if temptation rears it's head, I'll tell it to begone. Uh Oh - what's that gorgeous smell? It's pizza with some cheese! My hunger pangs I cannot quell, Perhaps a small slice, please? I know that what I'm eating's wrong, I know it and I rue it, Tomorrow I will prove I'm strong, Yes, that's when I will do it. ******************* Original poem by Jabo. Have you ever put off starting a diet? This is just an experiment to see if rhymes can find an audience here. Image from Pixabay.

Well, as you know Janet, I'm already a great fan of your poetry and yes, this works just as well at starting a discussion as do a few words in sentences! This yet another of yours that I love. I'll watch it's rogress with interest.

@valmnz Thank you Val, it was partly due to your encouragement that I put this on here. I know that poetry is not for everyone, but hopefully this is easy to read. We'll see how it goes.

It is a discussion though, isn't it? You tell a tale that people relate to and they can respond with their own experiences. That's a discussion. And it's a fun one, too. Brava!

@Rollo1 This sat here for quite a while before it got a response, so I was getting discouraged. Thankfully some people have visited since, but there is only one who didn't know me before. Anyway, thanks for thinking this was fun.

I applaud this new poem of yours that is funny and great as usual. I am also very good in dieting in my dreams... I should stop cooking, the smell of good food makes me hungry. Well, after all, I do not need to lose weight (but I do not want to gain!).

@LadyDuck The aroma of something cooking is a great diet-breaker, it's true. As you say, even if you don't need to lose weight, you certainly don't want to gain it. Glad you liked my poem, thanks Anna.

I like your poem, Jabo. I'm on a diet too. Wish I could attain the normal level for my cholesterol, sugar and creatinine. I'm on a no meat and less sugar diet right now and more water. We filipinos eat rice 3 x a day. And now I cut the rice too. I only eat rice during lunch time. Hope I can attain my goal.

I've been on the same diet most of my life, it's the seefood diet ..... I seefood I eat if I like it. Well, I guess I am kinda on a diet, I only eat foods that are organic, don't want those chemicals used on some foods in my body or the hormones used on livestock either.

@jaboUK The thing is you need to be resolute in your eating habits, stay away from foods you know will put weight on you. Have salads and those type of foods which are good for you.

If your poetry doesn't find an audience here, something is wrong with those people. You done good once more. I'd have added a word or two on the line about chocolate and chips. Like maybe just 'any' before chips would match the others better. I could read your poems all the day long. Can't wait until your daughter puts them all into a book. Maybe by then, you'll be telling stories that hook together with your poetry. Now wouldn't that be the cat's meaow?
