What is one feature you wish mylot had?

United States

For the most part, I think mylot has done a terrific job with the site. They covered all the bases and made it quite easy for people to interact and socialize. Which I think it's the target goal. However, I kind of wish they had a 'Draft' ability set up in the 'write' program. So many times, now I have written something, submitted and once I started interacting, I realized there is so much more I could have added and wished I did to the original discussion. What feature you wish mylot had?

I would like to have again a few categories to be able to find more easily discussions that should interest me.

Yes, I think that would be nice. As @thebusysids said, it used to be like that. I wouldn't have the 1st clue, but if they had it once before it seems it would be easy enough to bring back.

Interest categories and slightly improved navigation that lets us access all parts of the site from any page. I'm tired of having to go hunt for my messages or things like the Most Recent page.

@topffer This would be a good feature to have. We should skip those categories that are not interesting.

I liked the previous layout a lot better than this one. I want more smileys. What can I say? I seem to be addicted to sticking them into my posts these days, but sometimes I need an expression that just isn't there. ...yes, I do realize that we currently have more smileys than we used to have.

I don't know the old layout but from the few posts I read from some of the veterans, in so many ways it was more 'user friendly'. I wouldn't mind seeing some of those things come back. I know what you mean about the smileys, they could use a few more. Which there was a discussion on here about a month back on what smileys put would like to have.

@TexanTornado It really was. It wasn't perfect, but I think it was better suited to the purpose of the site than the current one. I'd like to see myLot move away from this simply because it would be a nice symbolic separation from the time when they were under different management. The color change kind of accomplishes that, but a new dedicated layout would be a very refreshing change.

@yukimori I don't think any site is ever perfect, for it's hard to please and cater to everyone, but I am all for 'user friendly' as much as possible. I think the veterans of mylot have a bit more trouble if you will, then the new comers, for the new comers don't realize what the old was.

You can always edit the post. But I am not going to suggest anything new until I have been doing this for a while. I do like something old, that is, we used to have categories here.

Yes, that I can, and have used the option quite a few times already. Even in my responses to other people's discussions. Yes, @sacmom was kind enough to supply an archive of the old layout for me to see. Back then they seem to have offered a lot more.

I wish they had a delivery option. I could just press a button and @topffer would be tickling my feet and back while @PhredWreck keeps me warm with his wooly coat. @yukimori's kids could be playing with mine while her and @1wldngl and @much2say and @TLChimes and you and I munch on brownies and you are dusting with that tornado of yours, so I would totally be multitasking while myLotting. Yup, that is definitely the feature that I want!

@1wldngl If the children behave, then they can have brownies as well, but I was thinking that we can just toss them a cookie or four every now and then.

@1wldngl I do but only as a last resort. We can just tell them to go play out back ... they have a couple of acres to run around and have fun in and not bother us or anyone else, so I think we'll be good.

The upside of doing it without a draft is the fact that you can always have almost a similar discussion with more thoughts given to it. I am quite happy with what they have - though I would personally appreciate more if we had the "Friends" thing back and also locating discussions based on Interests / Categories was made available - something on the lines of the earlier version or even a new format. Right now, we do not have any categories and so there are many discussions that I just dont want to see - for instance, I literally have no idea or interest in Politics or even the religion - if there was a way to skip them and reach directly to a place where I could find almost everything that interested me, it would have been much better - as they say - "cool"

@TexanTornado The concept of friends comes from the earlier days of MyLot - we did not have followers or following. You needed to send someone a friend request and wait for approval - so it was more mutual and involving. Befriending someone also meant that their discussions would be served to you and you need not go out anywhere to search for them - the home page would have 5 recent discussions started by your friends, 5 from your interests and both columns would have links to see more - of discussions from friends and from your interests.

Hmmm I guess you have a valid point, hence a similar discussion, but I think people would grow bored with reading 'similar' discussions over and over. Sorta of like, 'Can't you think of something new', type thing. Oh now, I love the idea of the interest categories. I like you have no interest in the politics or the religion ones. Both of the topics just seems to be more about battling or pushing their beliefs onto others.

I have done that at the other site. However, I heard it mentioned here that if you do that it breaks the discussion in weird spots, so I have yet to try it cause I don't want more work for myself in having to fix it all. Yes, I am lazy that way. I have yet to try and place a picture, I still need to do that. But yes, I can see where in some discussions it would be nice to be able to do so.

I think the site is good as itis, but I do wish that there were a mobile version, so I can do it on my ipad or iPhone, when I am not home. i also would like to see a category section, so I can find the disucssions that interest me much more easily. Other than that, I like it the way it is.

@TexanTornado I have posted from my ipad and well as started a discussion from my iPhone. It was difficult, but I did get done what I wanted to do, and I am so happy for that. If there were a category section, I could just post to the categories that interest me, and I wouldn't have to search for what I am looking for, but then that is what the tags are for.

@rosekiss Yes, I was glad I could use my IPad when I was on vacation. Although it was very slow going, I was too nosy not to be able to login. Oh yeah, I understand what you mean about the category section. I think with the tags, you actually have to do a search to find them.

@TexanTornado I personally would use it often! Right now, I use the notepad on my computer. I think it would be easier to write it all on here and save as a draft for when you want to post it. I know I get into writing sprees where I can write 3-5 discussions in a row, but I don't want to post them all in a row. I like to space out my discussions.

@Angelee_27 Yes, that is the other thing where having Draft would come in handy. Thanks for pointing that out. I see so many people posting back to back, I'm sure they would love to be able to break it up a bit. I myself need time to think, and thinking gives me a headache.

Sounds like a good way to do it. It might be interesting to see how many people are online when we are but if people are like me, I pretty much keep mylot open all day, even if I am not on. So I doubt the numbers would be accurate if wanting to gauge activity.

I say a smile button for those who refuse to smile. - like only joking Not me, don't need a dislike button. If I dislike, I just ignore. The feature I would like is not to develop features that would cause undo complications to the site so that technical issues arise and money rewards drop to almost zero.

Well, I think that might lead to more issues then necessary. It seems like the 'block' feature is being misused. I have a feeling a 'dislike' button would extremely be misused.

@Bluedoll I totally agree with you about the 'dislike' button. Oh yes, you do have a valid point. We don't need anything that will cause error problems or the lowering of the earnings.

I'd like to see what my pictures look like before I submit the post. Regarding the draft thing - I always write them elsewhere, and probably let them sit for a day or two. It's amazing how many things you want to change when viewing it with fresh eyes the next day.

Oh yeah, I can see where that would be useful. To be able to see exactly how it looks before the multitude sees it. Yes, I agree with you. It's after a day or so that I realize I should have worded that differently, or even new thoughts on the subject comes to mind and wish I had added it to the original.

Aww you such a thoughtful, caring person. And yes, I wish everyone good health and peace. Yes, both can be done, (the edit and the new). Which I never thought about the new one, maybe cause repetition gets boring. I also think after a day or two to edit your own post wouldn't help much, for if you done had responses and interaction, the edit would go by the waste side. However, since there is no draft, I could try one of the two options one of these times. Yes I can always use 'draft' via my email, that is no problem.

During the times Mylot stopped paying, I actually wanted to stay but they the nail in the coffin then is the removal of categories. I remember there is a category I created and managed to make relevant and I am still hurt that the category I tried to turn trendy is taken away from me. I will be very happy that the categories are back. I am happy to see some familiar faces coming back. It's been years and many of us has been older and wiser. I also want the ability to create a poll. BTW, how can I make a new post? I already forgot how to make one.

@TexanTornado There always seems to be something to discuss and give an opinion on, and I think myLot does stand out with that. Sure, there are other discussion boards, but very few allow you to earn whilst chatting. It's a really unique concept.
