Would you carry 2 mobile phones around with you?

During my last job many work colleagues had mobile phones supplied by the company, which were obviously intended for company use only. It was not uncommon for these people to have both the company mobile and their personal device in their pocket, which I considered was quite cumbersome. I declined the offer of a company mobile because the idea of carrying more than one did not appeal to me in the slightest. Instead I much preferred to distribute my personal number among all relevant staff. I also know a few people who have more than one personal mobile. This seems logical if one is a spare or used on holidays in case of loss, but for regular use seems odd to me. Do you have more than one mobile that you carry around with you?

Young people (high school students) often have two or three phones linked to different carriers so they can always get the best rates when chatting with friends on the same carrier.

@hereandthere If we had a need to use 2 different networks it would be more practical to use a dual sim mobile.

@ChesneyM Surprisingly no, I would have expected a dula sim to be more expensive but the only dual sim mobiles around appear to be basic and lower priced models.

@troyburns that's how it is here (though i'm not one of them). one is high tech, one is basic, with 2 different networks (usually combination of globe, smart, sun, tm)

I rarely carry a mobile phone with me unless I'm expecting to use it. When I'm out and about, I usually don't want to be contacted on just any old thing which I could easily catch up with when I get home. Since I always find it very difficult to get the phone out and remember how to answer the call in time, I usually miss calls when I have the phone with me and often have to call back (which costs money). Mobile phones are just a blessed nuisance as far as I'm concerned! Well, OL - they do have their uses ... my parents would have been astounded that one could carry such a small thing around which would not only be a phone but a camera, a street map which can tell you where you are to within 30 feet or so, a radio, a music player and an encyclopaedia and many other things. I have known people who carry two phones around with them and they don't seem to have any problem knowing which one to answer when it rings, nor do they seem to be too encumbered by them.

It has always seemed a pointless thing to be. I would not carry 2 jackets so that I could wear the most suitable one for the weather at the time or 2 pairs of glasses for different uses.

Hahaha, I actually have 2 mobiles with me. One is a smart phone, the other is just a regular type of phone that has a built in flashlight and don't have any advanced features. It's best to have two phones, one for business and another for personal use.

This is where we have different opinions. I would much rather combine both into a single mobile for convenience.

@Asylum Oh one mobile has two sims for convenience, the other one only has one sim so I have 3 numbers altogether.

I am unlikely to forget my mobile because I use it even if I am at home. It is more convenient to use my mobile and be free to move around than to use the landline.

@LadyDuck I have often contemplated purchasing a remote handset for my landline, although it would be superfluous since my mobile serves the purpose. Of course it would save me from having to walk downstairs to answer the telephone to hear a sales person or recorded message.

@Asylum I have a landline, but with two wireless landline phones, I keep one on each level of the house, with our Internet line, they give 2 phone numbers and you may guess that the few times they ring, they ring together.

No, I've never had more than one mobile phone at a time. I have a hard enough time not misplacing the one I currently have.

This seems a common problem and I know many people who have put the mobile down and ended up asking someone to call them so that they can locate it.

Not at all . I can't handle more than one phone. A single phone consumes so much of my time that I can't even think of keeping another phone with me

I hate the current trend for large screen mobiles, which results in a phone that will not fit easily into my shirt pocket. Having 2 would make the situation even worse.

@humanity_revisited The trend at one time was to make mobile phones smaller, then the craze for video and films on a mobile appeared and everyone wanted a larger model. Now it is difficult to find a decent quality mobile with high specifications in a reasonable size.

@Asylum I also don't get the logic of keeping 6 inch phones. For me 4.5 inch mobile display is sufficient

I usually carry only one phone. Carrying two phones could be cumbersome. Though I have more than one mobile phones. However, I use one at a time. On some occasions I carried two mobile phones with me when I went to another city because of network and connectivity issues.

That would make sense because you may not be aware of which network is stronger there until you arrive.

I know of several people that have to carry around a second phone when they are on call with their jobs. It is something we have to put up with now days I guess. Especially if you work for such a company.

I never found that I had to put up with it, I simply used my personal mobile for both personal and company business.

I only have one mobile phone, as Idon't need anymore than that, as I don't work outside the home. I do take my iPhone with me wherever I go though, as it is the only phone I have, and I do need it should I ever get any emergency calls, or just regular calls for that matter.

The need to be contactable was why I would not leave mine at home, therefore causing me to decline a company mobile.

@rosekiss I would pick mine up if I was walking to the shop for a bottle of milk. It would not really be needed because if anyone telephoned me during that time it would display on the screen and I could easily call back, but it is a habit I have developed.

@Asylum I take mine with me too, when I go grocery shopping. I usually never get calls then, but like you, it is a habit of mine that I take my iPhone wherever I go. I even take it to church, but I don't play on it or anything like that.

One of my mobile providers does not have a generator and with current failure which is a regular feature here it stops providing and for this reason I have another connection.

I would be very reluctant to use a mobile network that proved to be unreliable, instead I would probably have simply changed providers.

I only carry one mobile since my company does not provide one although they provide mobile usage monthly. If I have 2 mobile phones then I think it will be very difficult for me to keep track of my callers.

I only have one phone and I have been using it for years already. Even if I will have a lot of money to buy multiple phones, I will only use one. For me it is more convenient but some people find 2 phones more convenient.

I only have and use one mobile phone, although it's a dumb phone, so I'm not on it all the time like most are. If I had to have one related to a job, that wouldn't be a problem. Carrying it in a pocket would be weird, or two on a belt as a guy would need to do would be different too, but probably managable.

I have one mobile phone, and half the time I forget to take it with me. But I like it just for the security factor, not to talk to people when I am busy doing other things. I really don't care for talking on the phone and my mobile isn't a smart phone. I have downloaded a few Java apps that will do Facebook and search the web, but it's so slow, it's not worth trying if you aren't stranded in the snow on a mountaintop and trying to secure rescue.

I never use the internet or email features on a mobile. To me it makes more sense to use a computer for those tasks and a mobile for telephone calls.

No, just the one. However, I do understand the need for a work phone during work hours or when on call. But, if one is working, maybe they shouldn't be taking or receiving personal calls?

I could have used a company mobile and left my own at home, but it is the only way for a family member to contact me urgently so I consider it essential.

I have always been very averse to this idea. My idea of a mobile is something that will fit in a shirt pocket and provide the facilities that I require, so carrying another simply becomes a liability.

I only have one but I can see why someone might want to keep a company phone strictly for company use and not intermingle personal stuff on a company phone. I might have a second if I was offered a company one

I would not have used a company mobile for personal use because the bill would go to Head Office and too many private calls would be questions. Instead I chose to reverse that process and used my personal mobile for company use as well in order to avoid carrying 2 mobiles.
