Yesterday @Rollo1 started a discussion about snow in October. I left a comment, saying I hoped not to see the snow in October. It's too early, the leaves are still on the trees, I was not excited at the idea. During the afternoon, while I was commenting at my computer, we had strong thunderstorm, I heard the thunders and saw the lightnings, strange phenomenon in Autumn, I thought. Just before the sunset I looked outside the window, just to discover that the scenery has changed. The hill in front of our house was white, the sky of a mix of colors and the higher hills white, it has snowed! Only a little dusting, but enough to let us know that winter is not far away. I took a photo, during the night the rain has been back and by the morning the snow was gone, until the next time. Did already snow where you live?

Yesterday I heard the word 'snow' in a weather report but couldn't catch the name of the location as I had switched the radio on too late. I guess it's in the mountains of the Black Forest.

Talking about Black Forest, why is it called that way?

@marlina I think you mean the forest, not the cake. If I remember in ancient times, the Black Forest was almost completely deforested, so I suppose the name came from the dark area without trees.

I believe it snowed for a very short time because I did not even realized until I saw the hills. Today it is raining again, no more snow around.

I can just imagine now the cold the snow could bring .

At the office , i have to wear a hooded jacket because the airconditioner is so cold . We have to call the Maintenance and they said that it is centralized hence the cold cannot be lowered so we opted to have it switched off and on fan basis .

How much more if there is snow ?

This morning it was cold, the first real cold day. The snow has vanished, we had so much rain and it was washed away.

Just remember to keep the horrid stull in Switzerland because we usually get enough of our own over here and do not want any more. This was not what I expected when I saw the title of this discussion. My first though was "Anna is talking about me".

Where i live in Oregon, we don't get much snow, and if we do, it isn't until December. I certainly wouldn't want it this early. We need rain more than snow, as we haven't had any significant rain since March, and that is unusual for here.

@LadyDuck This was a very unusual year for no rain, as we always get lots of rain by now, but not having any since March, we are really dry, and need lots of moisture, or come next spring, we are really going to be hurting for moisture.

We usually have snow starting from December, but it happens to have a little snow in November that usually do not stay for longtime. It is surely unusual no rain in Oregon. Every time I visited it rained.

It only lasted a couple of hours, even without the rain, the temperature during the day is still warm.

It is meant to snow here this winter :( I like snow but not thick snow as it is dangerous driving in such conditions.

I have when snow becomes a danger. I have to get a shovel and clean our small private road to be able to go out when it snow.

lol! i am so sad that till now nothing is in here. I wished to have snow here. But in india just cahnging the weather to low temparature is the only way to get that identified , it is winter. Have a great day.

We haven't had snow here in the South of England for over a year now. In fact I don't think we had a proper winter last year. Of course the doom sayers are all forecasting several feet this year, I'll believe it when I see it.

I also can't get use to Rollo, Anja was easier to remember. I was surprised to see snow, because we are around 12 degrees during the day.

I am glad that the snow lasted less than one hour, just the time to take a picture. This morning is pretty cold, only 6 C.

Today it was sunny, with a blue sky but a temperature of 6 C in the morning. The cold days are here. I have switched to a warmer duvet.
