I Learned My Lesson

Canada
October 21, 2015 8:09am CST
Yesterday I wrote a discussion about my man and his cooking. He is an artist with food. I added a photo and when I pushed the submit button I got a huge error message and my WiFi disappeared. I had no Computer. I reset the computer but still had no way to go anywhere on it. The WiFi was not working. Tried my iPad and nope, nothing would open. I made a sign for the last craft show that says "To My Children: Don't make fun of me because I ask you for help with the computer. I taught you how to use a spoon. And it sold..(I'm not alone) So I called my son who has the same computer that I have (a Mac) and ask for help. He had me pushing buttons and unplugging and re-plugging things attached to the computer and finally said give it a rest and let me know in an hour if its still out. In an hour it was back on line and I was a happy camper again. I looked on myLot and the discussion was not there so "sigh" I will attempt to write it again later. Has this ever happened to you on this web site? Just curious... I'm hoping it was a fluke. The title is "I learned my lesson" because my last post was about politics. I won't be doing that again - ever! I Promise! I would like to thank the 4 friends who read my last post. It"s hard to understand if you don't live here in Canada and a lot of people don't like politics anyway. Like I said, no more politics from me. I just read a discussion about privacy. The photo on this post is my front yard full of trees in the fog. I have lots of privacy I hope you all have a great Wednesday. I will enjoy reading your discussions as always today.

Nothing like this happened to me on this site. I do not believe it was due to the picture of anything like this. I think it was a momentary wi-fi problem.

I'm glad that you got things up and running again. yesterday, while the watched the early morning news coverage regarding our new prime minister I felt very very proud to be a Canadian. And although I dislike reading about politics, that was a feeling and it was a good feeling.

@PainsOnSlate He sure does have his work cut out for him after so many years of the previous government. It is kind of sweet that a boy who grew up as a PM's son will now fill those very shoes himself. I have high hopes for him.

I am happy he will replace Harper. I think he will surprise a lot of people and be a great one.

That all sounds pretty distressing! Computer problems are always just a pain--on the flip side--love the slogan thaat you came up with! Happy Thursday to you!

I've never had that happen before. That is really strange but I'm glad that you were able to get back online.

@PainsOnSlate I wonder if you have some kind of virus? Hopefully your son can figure it out and fix it for you.

It happened this morning again, booted me right off the site and the computer had to reboot. Will have my son look at this site when he comes home. Have no idea why it happened, I was just commenting when it happened. Now I'm worried

@simone10 I have a Mac - that expensive Apple computer, a gift from my kids that doesn't get viruses. I will be asking my son about this the next time he comes home.

I clean missed that discussion, I do not mind talking politics at all, it is good to know what is going on in other countries around the world. I did not get the size of my photo right the first time I tried to load a pic, so only my discussion showed. I am glad all is okay with your Mac. You have a lovely front yard! Have a great Wednesday too. :-)

I looked again today on the rules looking for the size of the photo and couldn't find any info. Do you know where to look?

@PainsOnSlate , I'm not certain of the size photos should be, I just know that once I cropped my photo once, it loaded without a problem, and I could edit it into my discussion that did go through. I am not certain where to find info on photo size, maybe @owlwings would know?

@bluesa & @PainsOnSlate I believe that, as PhredWreck says, it's still "less than 5Mb" but I will check.

I'm guessing your service was just temporarily interrupted. Mylot does not have the power to knock your whole house off it's wifi.

When You say it that way you are absolutely right. It was just bad timing.

The error message that you received is quite common here. It has happened to me many times. Nothing to do with your pc or wifi

I had an error a while back when I posted, so I posted again - got another error message. Posted again - and there was my post three times! Two of them already had responses from different people - sheesh. I had to delete two of them. Sorry about your politics post - I didn't see it, but I don't like politics anyway.

I think that it was more likely a wi-fi problem than a problem on myLot. Wi-fi problems happen to us all one time or another :(

Thanks for that, It made me laugh and it sells too. My son is a pro on the Mac so he has to walk me through a lot of things several times before i get the hang of it, its so different from Microsoft..

I've had errors when trying to attach a large photo, but it never caused the whole computer and WiFi to quit working. Maybe it was just a fluke and your WiFi just happened to go down at the same time. My WiFi quits working occasionally for no reason (I'm sure there is a reason I just don't know it). It's irritating, but there isn't much I can do about it.

I have not had the posting problems but I have had lots of trouble when opening pages with the "timed out error". Most of the time refreshing works for me but it seems to take it longer. Very nice yard you have.

My yard is changing colors now, I should take my camera for a walk. I find any time the computer doesn't work right it drives me bonkers.

Never had issues of this sort on the site only with our carrier here on the island. Last week we had one day of power outage. Think one of the main transformers in town was acting up and they were rerouting power around the grids on the island. Then Tuesday our internet satellite decided to disappear and we were without internet service for over 7 hours. Don't personally thinks it;s the site on this one sounds more like a problem with your computer or your carrier.

I agree, judging how long it took to come back it must have been the satellite.
