I will have to write that one again

Well, I did the unthinkable. Even though I know the trick for getting my partially-written post back if it suddenly disappears from my screen, there are times when that trick won't work. Like, if I close the tab and the whole page disappears. Yep, I did that. It was a good discussion, too. I knew I was too tired to continue. I should have been in bed half an hour ago. Never myLot when you are too tired to keep your eyes open. Youmight close the wrong tab. Well, guess I will just have to write that one again. Happens to everyone, right? But isn't it worse if do it through my own mistake than if I could blame my computer, my ISP or the website?

That's why i always write my post in word first . Then copy and paste it here . After i have submitted it , i will also copy the link and paste it to that discussion . At least i have a copy with links of all that i write here . I even do that with the other site .

@dpk262006 Thank you . I am just making sure that if ever it doesn't submit , i can copy and paste it again . And copying the links would be also easy for me to locate them , if ever .

@SIMPLYD - Yes, it is always better to be safer than to feel sorry later. You and me are on the same page.

Anja blame yourself, I always write my text in a text editor, it's also a way to keep all of them in a folder, just in case.

I also write mine in a text editor and save it.

I am not normally interested in keeping them, there are just a few that I would want to save. But I do run that risk of losing them, and so I blame myself.

To avoid such kind of glitches I prefer to write my new discussions in a word file. I use copy and paste method so as to avoid any mishap. I know it feels very disappointing if we lose our contents by wrongly closing a tab.

@Rollo1 The point here is not exactly about saving the discussions. Even if you start a new post on the spur for the moment, you could simply open a word file and write down your post and then copy and paste it, it will not take more than few minutes. However, it could save you from an unexpected and sudden glitch, which happens on this site.

If I wrote anything of importance I would do that, but I don't use Word. And most discussions are just spur of the moment. I don't wish to save them.

I am not writing anything important on myLot, so saving it in a word file seems like a lot of work to me. I like to live life on the edge.

@Rollo1 I too can't see any point in saving my myLot pieces. Thoughts come and go. Mine are often not relevant several hours later

I often find my posts are better if I lose them and write them again. But I don't do it on purpose.

I suppose it is often true that the second time around you write a better post. You've had more time to organize the thoughts in your head. I read once that Robert Louis Stevenson threw his first manuscript for The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde on the fire and he had to write the entire book again.

Do tell how to get a partially written post back? There are many times when I will hit something (2 keys of which I don't know what they are) and the whole paragraph I was working on disappears. I haven't been able to figure out an "undo" to bring back what I just accidentally deleted.

So it happens to you too. Good to know. Though not happy you lost your post. I know how it feels. When it happened to me, I didn't have such a good attitude. I slammed off the computer and went to the cupboard.

@Rollo1 That is one of my favorite treats. I suggest not keeping it in your cupboard though. Mine goes into the freezer but it never last very long.

I tend to have those disappearning acts on my tablet. I have no idea what I do, but suddenly the near completed post vanishes and the screen goes white. Those ones I can never find again.

I don't even try to write on the tablet for that reason. It's too easy to swipe the wrong things.

@Rollo1 I share the computer with my husband, it's really the business computer, so most of my discussions and interaction are done on the tablet.

This happened to me only once some years ago with a very long travel report. Since then I've saved even the shortest pieces.

I get away with it more often than I lose things, but when I do lose something, it's usually something that will be hard to recreate.

@Rollo1 Ma'am, you can type your post / comment in word and copy paste the same. It works.

This kept happening to Vince on his tablet when he was trying to write his blog. After an hour or so's work the whole lot might disappear.

That's definitely a killer. I did learn that most of the time, backspacing will get you back to where you were, but that doesn't always work depending on what caused you to lose your page or what site you're on. I know of people who used to write their discussions in Word and then copy and paste them here to prevent just that problem.

Done that and got caught too and especially if it was a long post. What a waste of time to have to totally try to remember and redo it.
