Is Blocking The New myLot Hobby Or A Glitch?

Please excuse me if I write a post on a topic I've already written on only a short time ago. The reason is that I'm still puzzled. Nay, I'm puzzled more and more as the days go by!
I'll keep it short: I wrote that I often can Like a post but not Comment on it. I was informed by people in the know that the members with whose posts this happened had obviously blocked me. I accepted this explanation. I have nothing against anyone blocking me. Why should I? Unlike some members I've encountered I don't think that everyone has to love me. I don't have sleepless nights in which I try to figure out the big WHY. Besides, I've blocked people myself.
Yet, and this is why I'm rehashing the topic. It happens
- more often now and
- predominantly with members I haven't had any previous contact with.
Why should they block me if I've never left a comment on any of their posts? Blocking doesn't happen unintentionally, does it? Therefore my question: Have I by chance encountered some jokesters whose hobby it is to block harmless members? Dear adminAlex/Alice, can you check who blocks whom? Maybe you can find members on a blocking spree?
Last question: Is it only me? Am I the odd one out or do other members experience the same?

I have had a few people mention that they have been blocked by people they have never interacted with. I could imagine endless reasons for it and none of them would probably be correct. People starting fresh with new accounts, perhaps they looked around a bit before posting and saw some perceived slight, who knows? And yes, could also see an occasional scenario where a new user stumbling around has done so accidentally. I have even had a few cases of brand new accounts, with no activity, blocking people. This might be returning spammers, but it won't do any good because I am fairly certain you can report posts even from people who have blocked you.

If people are accidentally blocking other members, perhaps adding a confirmation popup to the page would eliminate that.
Something like "If you block this member, they will not be able to respond or comment in discussions you've created. Would you like to continue? [Yes] [No]" would clarify what the blocking process does and ensure that it's intentional on the part of the member initiating the block.

@Tampa_girl7 I use a desktop computer, so usually I do not have problems, but with a phone this can happen.

I have only blocked one perosn in here, and that is beause that person was very mean and vindictive, and everyoje that responded or commented back to him, as far as he was concerned were all wrong and he was right. That is one thing to be that way, but to be mean about it is totally different. I had not encountered anyone like before that day, nor have I encountered anyone like that since that day. I have gained may friends in here and for that I am happy.

Let us just leave them alone, but never block for that is so unwise..Let us just wait for the time that person realizes his rude actions towards his/ her co-writers here.

I can not understand why people block you. Jealousy springs to mind!

That is totally amazing. I have never had this one happen to me. Furthermore I have never once used this feature to block a single person. I know if a person comments bad on a post it is their opinion and I should respect it. I don't have to like what they said but I do respect it.
I think this is crazy to hear this and I did read another person say the same thing a few days back. I can't believe people have done this to you or anyone on the site. I hope they will consider their actions and stop doing this and unblock the people they have blocked. This is bad for them because they lessen their chances of getting responses or comments on their accounts.

I was not even aware that blocking was an option. Other than someone just trying to be a jerk, the only reason I can think of is that they might have read some of your posts, and decided they didn't like/agree with you. What does blocking accomplish? Does it make it where you can't see or comment on their posts?

@PhredWreck @GoAskAlice If I Blocked someone, it would be to remove what they write from my view, so I don't have to read it: Comments, Responses and Discussions.
That Blocking still leaves the discussions in view is a failing, I think.
Am I right?

I have blocked a few plagiarists, after some of them deleted links to the original post they were plagiarizing, or blocked me. For the rest, I know that I have been blocked by one member here long before myLot started to pay again, but this member is well known as a serial blocker...

Maybe it could be accidental. I haven't noticed if I have been blocked.

well I am sad to hear that people block you if you like but dont comment - their loss. Some people can be just so TOUCHY on blog sites - its all about the read, the like and the Comment if you have something to say about it - but if you dont, that surely doesnt matter??
