I would have thought that it was illegal to have such a low temperature in any workplace, let alone a care home! As a matter of fact, the only regulations I can find specify that "The temperature maintained in each work area shall provide reasonable comfort consistent with industry-wide standards for the nature of the process and the work performed." and that "A temperature of not less than 68° shall be maintained in the toilet rooms, resting rooms, and change rooms during hours of use." I can't find any relating to California Adult Care facilities, but they must exist.

Workplace...the other day I saw something being made for oil rig and I thought oh my god, that is one place I'd never go, and suddenly felt extremely grateful to those men because they were doing what needed to be done and somebody had to do it. Furnace can't be a cool place to be near for sure. It is easy to write accounts in comparison. But care home, I would be hopping mad.

@Hatley it is much colder here in Calgary today . . It is minus 11 degrees (centigrade) . . and snowed heavily last night . . I think it was 11 centimeters of snow that I shoveled this morning. Whew! Where are you El Nino!?

I would really do some complaining and if they don't listen call the department of social services to complain over it. You should not be left in the cold.

I am wondering if you have a heater in your room as well. Yes, you should really ask for warmer rooms. Hope the new owners be more considerate and caring. Hope you can get something (sweater or blanket) to keep yourself warm at this moment. Enjoy your shopping later and hope you can find some warmth while shopping!

This is ridiculous! You should not be housed in a meat locker. I'm blowing it up some, but that is way too cold. You should be seeing your breath! I hope a meeting with the powers that be will bring about changes.

This post has honestly got me so mad that I'm tempted to call Adult Protective Services on behalf of you and the other residents that they're torturing like this. I'm going to settle for sending huge hugs your way, and hope that the meeting went well and they're actually listening and--more importantly--doing something about this. Argh. First the thing with the glucometer, now this... is there nobody with an ounce of common decency and compassion in charge of that place?
