Cost Of Food Going Up In 2016

I was listening to the news a few days ago and the newsman said that the cost of food will be even higher in 2016. I find the price of meat getting ridiculous these days so what is it going to be then? I can see that a lot of people are going to buy a lot less meat and use more grains and rice to compensate. Also beans will probably be selling in larger quantities in the coming year. Even the fruits and vegetables that we import from the U.S. here in Canada have already gone up quite a bit because of our dollar going down. Have you noted a difference in the price of food where you live yet?

During the holidays the price of foods is always a bit higher. There is a big difference in food prices from Switzerland and Italy, this is the reason why I often cross the border to buy food products.

Don't you have to pay "customs fees"?

@marlina If the order is small, usually less that 150$, there are no custom fees, anyway on books custom fees never apply.

Yes meat is crazy high. I have a big freezer. When meat is on sale I buy extra for the freezer. I also have a food saver, the vacuum sealer thingy. That helps a lot to prevent freezer burn.

I heard that cost of food here is going up next year, and cost of living as well. I guess it'd be good if we can plant some vegetables in our garden, so we can save some money to buy food and also enjoy some healthy food.

People who live in high rises can not grow their own food.

That can't be good @marlina I wonder if it's getting harder to grow enough crops to feed the masses

@rebelann , But lately: in 2019, it has been ridiculous. Celery: $6,00 for a stalk .

I am a bad shopper, meaning I do not pay attention to prices, never did. The cost of everything goes up on a daily basis I think.

To be honest, I have not noticed any increase in the cost of food. . . I can't remember the last time I actually bought any food! I produce 80% of my meat, fruit, veg and booze myself, and what I can't produce I exchange with what I can produce. Currently the exchange rate is 2 rabbits = a shoulder of pork, 2 dozen eggs for 5kg of rice, but I will let you know if there is any variation in the exchange rate!

Food price for us is relatively stable. I think that is due to the strength of our currency. We are not oil producing country, so the low oil price means that we benefit from lower price of food, and other commodities.

I have noticed the price of meat, in particularly beef, rising the past 18 months or so. But these prices do not stop me from buying it, we just go directly to the farmer to get the best for our buck and a lot of people are doing that.

@marlina Even plain old ground beef is expensive, we buy our organic beef directly from the farmer and we're pleased as it cuts out the middle man and is more reasonably priced.

The price of food is constantly going up and every time I shop I pay more for basically the same stuff. Meat prices are ridiculous as well as fresh fruits. I've cut down a good bit since the prices keep going up

I am not surprised to hear that. In fact everytime when I go to the market, I often find that the price for the food is higher and higher. And it will become much more expensive during the holiday, bad weather and so on.

This weather is making ti difficult for fruit and vegetables to have a full season. And because of the extremes in some areas it will be more expensive for growers to get their produce to market. I see where prices will go up.

I've seen it slowly creep up . We went out to lunch yesterday at a place that's "cheap" - but it wasn't til after I got the bill that I realized the prices must have gone up - it's never been that amount. I was rather shocked!

not yet, but it makes me really want to start my own garden and get a bigger freezer to buy more meat when whatever meat is on sale, is on sale!
