2016 Book Challenge

So I found this book challenge and decided I would complete it as one of my new year's resolutions in 2016: 1. a book published this year 2. a book you can finish in a day 3. a book you've been meaning to read 4. a book recommended by a librarian or book seller 5. a book you should have read in school 6. a book published before the year you were born 7. a book that has been banned at some point in time 8. a book you've previously abandoned and never finished 9. a book chosen for you by a friend or family member 10. a book you own but have never read 11. a book that intimidates you 12. a book you've already read I'm sharing this challenge for any book worms out there and also to hear any book suggestions! I'm currently looking for a book suggested by a librarian or book seller so any librarians or book sellers out there please help me out! Any genre will work for me as I am trying to branch out from what I typically read. I am also searching for a book that I can read in a day. For me, that's about 150-200 pages. All suggestions for any of the above categories are appreciated and if anyone decides to participate in this challenge keep me updated with what you're reading!

I read all the time but I'd never follow such a list. There are different ways of how I find a book or a book finds me. But we always find each other. Who has thought up No 11? I find that plain silly.

I'm not sure where the list came from, it's just something I saw online and thought I'd share. In my instance I love to read but I find myself reading many books from the same genre so I thought this would be helpful for me to branch out of my comfort zone. As for number 11, I like that one. I'm sure there are plenty of books I've skipped over in the past because something about it intimidated me.

@MALUSE - War and Peace intimidates me but I've always planned to read it one day.

@paigea farewell to arms is the one that always intimidated me. I started reading it in high school and had to put it down after a few chapters. It was just so dull to me at the time and it's always seemed more like a project to read rather than a story to me

the book
Amazon(dot)com has search-tools u can use to find a lot of those specifications. (Does 'having an AStore' qualify me as a book-seller? even if I don't think I've ever actually "sold a book" there?) I always suggest "The Greatest Salesman in the World," by Og Mandino.

I would say that qualifies you! Thankyou! I'm going to add your suggestion to my book list

I have been keeping track of the books I read for 40 years. My year end is February 18th so I am trying to finish the book I recently started by that date. I looked at how many chapters are in the book, counted the days left and figured I would need to read at least 2 chapters a day to do it. I think I've caught up to the point where I need to only read one chapter a day as I read 3 chapters about 3 nights in a row. But I only read one last night. I could never focus on such a big challenge you have put forth, though I do hope to publish a book.

@Marty1 It's actually one big long list. At day's end on the 18th I draw a line with the number of years it's been and then carry on into the next year at 925 or whatever number I'm at right now. My librarian in grade 7 started our class doing this and I continued it. I guess we must have started this project in February.

@everybodylovespizza @Mary1 This began with a sheet of paper given to us by the librarian. I continued it in a small Hilroy school notebook. Once I got a computer I transferred it all onto a floppy disc (which I lost but thank God I printed it all out), and now on a flash drive.

This year I started keeping a list as well of all the books i read. I write them down on a blank bookmark.

Excellent, this sounds really cool. Have you started this and marked any off the list so far?

I did! i found the time to finish one book. I finished a Feast of Crows which is the fourth book in the game of thrones series. It accomplished one of the easier challenges on the list which is a book i've been meaning to read. Next, i'm reading In Cold Blood which is a book i own but never have read. I've also started writing down the books I read on my bookmark so at the end of the year i can look back and remember all the books i've read in 2016

I don't read as much as I should, but I could probably hit about half of these. I've bookmarked this, and if I remember, I'll check back at the end of the year to see how I did.

I'd like to take this challenge. I can only think of two books I read last year so this would get me going maybe. Good luck to you.

This looks like a fun way to do a reading challenge. I may try to make up a list that meets the 12 criteria. Banned books are really easy, as that's a very long list. Not sure if there's a book that I'd say intimidates me, though. Maybe if I read one of the French classics in the original text?

That's the category I was having a hard time with but I thought about it and I'll read farewell to arms. That book always intimidated me for some reason. I know it's a classic but it just seems so boring to me and that intimidates me

@everybodylovespizza I'm not sure a boring book is intimidating - it's just boring! And just because a book is a classic, doesn't mean everyone will like it.
