Are books going to die?

A teacher of mine used to say that books will never die. I think the same. If books manage to resist since now, it's sure that they will resist even longer în the future. I know technology is on its pic nowadays but this doesn't mean that there's the death of the books. What do you think about the power of books? Will they resist?

I dont think books are gonna disappear anytime. If you are a voracious reader, you would agree that the pleasure of reading through a physical hard copy is next to none. The ebooks can be taken away or scissored out with a few instructions on the internet. The real power of a writer to sway the masses through his writing is realised only through physical books. As goes the age old adage- 'Pen is mightier than the sword'. So, NO, the e-books can never take the place of physical books.

Yes, books will never be replaced by e-books, because the real pleasure of reading consists in actualy feeling the pages with your fingers as you read. This is why I prefer physical books to e-books.Of course, e-books are also usefull, especially when you go somewhere and you can't take many books with you.

@Roxy27 True that. The pleasure of holding a book in your hand is really satisfying. No doubt the e books are pretty useful and are definitely gonna stand the test of times. Moreover, in case of ebooks you need not worry about physical spaces. Of course, thats what ebooks are meant for. Anyways, happy reading.

I don't think books will die and live on forever. Of course being able to read on a Kindle or Nook is popular but a real book is still my choice.

I don't understand a preference for a Kindle or Nook over a real book. Drop a Kindle or Nook, it breaks or gets ruined by water or gets stolen. A book dries out, gets bents and no one is going to grab a book and run.

Books have staying power because there people who still love them. Just like Vinyl albums are still produced because there are people who prefer the sound. I am a lover of books. I have a kindle, but I read more real books than ebooks. I can't take my kindle to the bath with me like I do my novels. I don't have to worry that my physical book might run out of power when I'm nowhere near a charging station.

@Roxy27,We now live in the cyber age.The number of ebook lovers has been going up day by day.But this doesn't mean that one day ebooks would replace traditional, printed books. For example,I rarely read ebooks.I have been a book lover, and am not alone. There are still millions who prefer books to ebooks.

I have never read a book on my smart phone till date. I have read a few on my computer but I don't prefer it. There is no substitute for the feel of a great book. I love libraries for the same reason. The ambience soothes me.

Books have great values .. even if it is not used much due other alternatives that technology had found.. the value of books becomes higher and higher especially those of people's handwritten.. the original copies .. those rare one those ancient one etc. But the content in a books is mostly adapted through other alternatives.. the book do have its own beauty.. that may not find any other alternatives...

I would have to agree with you and your teacher. I don't think books will ever die. I'm sure there will always be people who want to write books, and enjoy reading them.

Ooh, not iF I can help it. I love technology but I have NOT gotten on the "e-reader" train like many others I know. I just need to feel a book in my hands; there is something so much more authentic about the experience. I like to dog-ear the pages, physically give it to another person, carry it on around with me and if it gets wet or stained - no big deal. It does seem as though e-readers like Amazon's Kindle are expensive but very very popular. Hopefully they will not take the place of real books.

Very true. When I read a book i like to let signs on it because in this way I feel that I actually read that book. I have a friend who is really obsessed to not damage the book or its pages so after she read it, it's like the book wasn't acutally read. She prefers keeping her books clean as they are new. :)

Don't think it will be like a battle just a change in what is more popular. A book will make a good gift or be enjoyed.

Real books are slowly making a transition to ebooks. There will always be books in some form or another and there will be more online self publishing. But readership and interest in books will dwindle because this tech world environment is developing young people with short attention spans, no patience and response to bright flashy images and loud noise.

I do not think paperback books are not going to die, but many people are going buy them on Amazon Kindle. I recently finished a book on my computer. It was nice, not to have to worry about turning a page, all I had to do was scroll down.

Is it so physically demanding to turn a page? Everything tech is geared to less and less physical activity.

@Kboy26 And when your computer goes on the fritz? Power outage? It happens. The book is there. Reliable. A computer is not reliable. I have never lost a book in my life and I am of a certain age.

@JohnRoberts Not to mention, you will not have to worry about losing the book. All you have to do it turn on your computer.

Books can never grow old or die.But the trees are that are being made to paper that's needed to be focused on.Thats maybe the reason why e-books are invented to eliminate cutting of trees when no one is planting them and some trees live a long time to grow fully mature and ready for use.

@JohnRoberts I'm sorry for being incorrect. That's good that America is doing their part too. Please I would like to correct you too. It's just some parts of the Philippines. We, here have done so many by planting back trees. My family who owns a farm take pride and joy in planting those precious trees that mainly saves us in every typhoon that visit us many times in a year.

You are incorrect that no one is planting trees at least in America. You are in the Philippines where the people have devastated everything. Books can be made from recycled paper. There are vast tree farms in America.

I have many books that I have collected over the years. I would rather read from a book, than from a computer. I enjoy holding the book in my hand and turning the pages. Some book stores have closed in the USA, but some are still doing well. The Bible says: "To the making of many books, there is no end and much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh." Ecclesiastes 12:12 The Bible is my favorite book to read. You can read it in your language at this web site: You can also read many Bible-based articles in your own language and watch FREE videos in your language. I highly recommend this site to you.
