~Weird Childcare Phone Call~

Picture I Took

So...yesterday I had the most strange phone call I have ever gotten. It was someone looking for childcare...or so she said. Everything was fine at first, she asked all of the "normal" questions such as how much experience I have, how many kids I have, etc. Then out of nowhere it got really weird. She asked me if Julian was a boy or a girl and how old he is. I told her he is a boy and he's almost 2 months old. The next few questions is what got me... She asked if I breastfeed him. What does THAT have to do with childcare? Then the next question is more weird. She asked if he had a circumcision done. What in the world? I heard something in the background, like someone hanging up the other line or something weird like that. She asked my opinion on breastfeeding and circumcision, and she asked if I could handle caring for her 3 year old son if he has the procedure done! When I asked her questions about why she just avoided my questions and asked more of her own. That is where I had enough of the call. I told her I had to go! When I get a weird vibe from someone like that-I do not take any chances. I don't know her intentions but it was too strange for my comfort... Does this seem odd to you as well? Have you ever gotten a phone call that you gave you the weird vibe?

Those questions wouldn't have set well with me. I would have asked her what any of the questions had to do with the day care. If she got uppity I would have give her the quick fix of a hang up.

@ElusiveButterfly I did ask and she kept avoiding my questions and asking more of her own, it was really weird. Which is why i said I have to go and hung up. It almost sounded like I was being recorded or something.

@LovingMyBabies did her phone number come up on your phone? If so I would make a note of it and perhaps report it to the authorities.

@ElusiveButterfly Yes, I agree. If she is looking for a child, she may go on to an easier person or learn to ask better questions.

I think you were right to terminate that call. Anyone who waits to have a circumcision done when they're son is three is reason enough to be leery of them. As for her other questions, I don't think they were any of her business.

@Dwdavis Yeah that's much too old to put her son through that! She was asking really personal questions that had nothing to do with childcare at all.

@LovingMyBabies You should write down everything you remember about the phone call, what you said, what she asked, and the fact that she refused to respond to the questions you asked her about why she was asking you such questions. Nothing may ever come of it, but the sooner you record it, the more you will remember.

When you are self-employed you have the luxury of saying no way to people like that.

That was weird alright. 1. It could be from someone who has some religious views or something like that. And wanted their kid to be taken care of by someone who has same views or have no objection to what they believe. 2. It can be one of those tele-callers who call you for survey purpose. 3. Someone was trying to get information out of you. It could be for good as well as bad reasons. 4. It would seem far fetched but maybe someone had reported you (out of malice/jealousy/revenge) and the caller was someone checking up on you? Don't take me seriously. I was just racking my brain up for a reason behind a weird call like that.

@Daljinder No I think your right, it seemed like she was recording me or something because in the background I kept hearing weird things like through the phone. It was really strange honestly.

@LovingMyBabies Remember when someone called the Social Services about they thought you did not have a car seat? Could be someone checking on you, but I would vote for the evil vibes.

@LovingMyBabies Then it is best to be cautious. Be extra vigilant. Keep alert with your dealings with the kids you care for.

That was definitely one weird phone call. I don't understand those questions, if she's looking for childcare. It makes no sense. I'm glad that you ended the conversation.

@LovingMyBabies I can believe that. I've done some babysitting as a teen, and worked with kids a lot, and those questions don't seem to make much sense.

@dodo19 Yes it was! It didn't make sense for childcare at all. I have been doing this a long time and never had anyone ask those questions before or anything like that.

Yes, this seems odd to me, I wonder if this was a sort of a prank, but I would not like to take care of the child of this woman.

I agree that if you aren't comfortable with someone you are best to have nothing to do with them. However I think that this woman was probably just doing the best she could to find out what sort of person you are, before entrusting you with her own precious son.

@jabouk Its possible i suppose but all of the questions combined gave me red flags. I have never been asked such strange questions and she didn't want to answer my questions to her which also made things seem weird.

I think it's good that you hanged up after getting the weird vibes. I think as parents we become (over)protective of our kids, and anything that we perceive as even remotely 'harming' our kids is very unacceptable. Even if it's just probing questions like those. Specially from people we don't know. We'll I did get a phone call yesterday from a telemarketer that gave me a weird vibe. She was offering me VIP tickets to any event I want to go to, as long as I attend one of their information sessions. It got weird when she asked me if I had a "significant other" -- of course I replied "why, do you?" And then she started talking about her husband..... And I then I said I had to go, and hanged up.

@Bounce58 Yeah I am super protective over any child so I got really nervous with that phone call. The whole thing was really weird. Well that's a weird call that you got too. Lol its none of her business if you have a significant other or not!

What?!?!?!? I would have been freaked out too! I mean maybe she did really wanted to know if you could take care of her son the right way knowing that you are going thru it yourself with your son but the way that you are describing it, its kind of weird! Goosebumps!!! These days we have to be really careful! Just follow your instincts. :)

It might be someone who had a lots of troubles and doubts on their personal life. so they got mental stress and sometimes they will call for any random number and asks suggestion. The reason for the phone call might be they don't have internet and they are not educated for using any forums for discussion. the weird thing is some times they ask wheather to die or not. Be cool.

@sidddusentha I have never heard of anyone doing something like that before. She got my number off the internet so I am pretty sure she has internet.
