From our kitchen window

It is 9am here and Vince has gone off to golf. As he was about to leave we looked out the kitchen window and spotted these four kangaroos. Although we've been here for some time and are used to the roos, it is still quite exciting to suddenly see them so near the house.
We both grabbed cameras and took photos before they hopped off somewhere else.
The doe is furtherest away and the others are last year's joeys or this years. Many of the does have big pouches now as now that the rains have started and there is plenty of green grass new joeys will soon be appearing. And life goes on.

@hereandthere There are not supposed to be any feral deer in WA but they do occur in several of the eastern states.

@jaboUK They would do damage in the garden if we had anything planted that they liked and we had to fence the trees we planted until they got established and big enough to survive the odd nibble. But we don't have crops to worry about.

no kangaroos here just dogs and cats, and occasionally a mouse.

Couldn't see it from the window the other morning but I had a good look at a young bull moose when I went outside. Have seen quite a bit of wildlife nearby this spring including a black bear just up the road. No picture though. Didn't have the camera handy and they do make themselves scarce in a hurry.

@JudyEv They are rare enough sights even though there are a lot of them here. Hard to believe those huge moose can move through thick brush without making a sound.

@koopharper I can believe that. The kangaroos blend in well but in the bush you hear them as soon as they start moving.

I haven't seen a kangaroo. Are their population continue on increasing?

@acelawrites Originally for balance I guess but the scales are tipping now. A lot are killed for pet meat but they are becoming more and more common. The vineyards around here have quite high electrified fences to keep them out.

@JudyEv, am just curious, of what use (what value) does the kangaroo have? Is it's meat eaten or are they just there for ecological balance?

How exciting to see them so close. We have seen deer in our front yard. They were just laying in the snow a couple of years ago.

@JudyEv It is such a delight to see them just standing in plain view. It is rare to see that. They look at you with those big eyes. How I ever thought I could get my hunting license and shoot one is beyond me.

@ElusiveButterfly As youngsters we used to go spot-shooting at night. We'd have a spotlight and go out at night shooting rabbits but foxes and kangaroos if we saw them were fair game too. I'd never even want to do it now.

They really capture the imagination don't they? They are such a nice shape I think and quite unique - although lots of animals are unique in their own way too - such as giraffes.

How cool! We get deer occasionally, but obviously no kangaroos. That's a neat photo.
