Went Home Hungry After a Birthday Party

We attended a friend's birthday lunch but went home hungry. It was not because there were no foods. In fact, the buffet table was laden with various pork dishes with the big roasted pig holding the center of everyone's attention. But my husband and I no longer enjoy unhealthy dishes like these and we have for years not been eating them. So, while the guests were happily feasting on the dishes, we were like fasting.. Good thing there were slices of watermelons and pineapples sliced so we had something to eat at least and we were thankful that the busy host did not notice that we did not touch the dishes at all. Oh our way home, we stopped by a nice restaurant where we had a delightful late lunch with Asparagus tofu dish and and Baked Pink Salmon. We were filled finally and went home happily. Have you ever attended a party but did not enjoy the food?

This is a good attention to the party, that we should also consider those who are vegetarian and not only concentrated on fatty meat foods. There are people now who prefer the good diet and not just anything in the table.

Actually, I wish all party hosts would consider that fact but unfortunately this is not the first time I experienced this.

@ilocosboy You are very right. Vegetable salad is to me the best option in serving veggies.

@salonga The variation of the foods should always be observe. Right now many people are already conscious with their diet and not everyone is enjoying the feast of the meat. But there are occasions I attended serving vegetables, most are salads.

Yes, that often happens to me because I don't like a lot of different foods. I just like plain stuff.

Most of the parties I attend are the kind where something like a roast pig is literally the center of the party. Roasting a pig in a bbq pit. I also enjoy the food. Thats why I'm so round. lol

@nonersays My husband used to have hypertension, it runs in their family. But when we turned to healthy eating his blood pressure became normal.

Very rarely, lol. But I wouldn't enjoy a table full of nothing but pork, either. I mean I like pork fine, but there should be a variety. I'm glad they had some fruit you could eat.

I would eat the food. I would try to only have a small portion, but I have trouble with sticking to that!

Not really though I may not eat everything. BTW , my husband would have gorged on all that pork and i'd have enjoyed some too. :)

I think its great that you and your husband have chosen to eat healthy. Like you said at least you did have the watermelon and pineapple to eat. Being a vegetarain my daughter and I leave most parties hungry.

Actually this is not our first. In our country, most people love meat and only few value healthy eating.

I had a bad food poisoning case before and since I'm very cautious when eating at parties especially if it's outdoor and the food has been exposed under the sun for some time... I'd rather not eat anything if I'm not sure about the food served...

I am not quite sure why you think pork is not healthy it is one of the leanest meats and can be quite healthy. I do enjoy pork, I guess it would have depended on the presentation and personally, I don't eat tofu I hate the texture. Hibs eats everything and he is healthy as a horse, no health issues except his Parkinson's which is not diet affected. As a hostess, however, I would always have food for my vegetarian guests since my granddaughter is a vegetarian.

When I was younger, I was always watching my weight and what I ate. Whenever I would go to a party, I would be like you and not really eat anything. If I did eat something, it was very small portions.

Well, I can connect with this experience. I attended a bank function and the spread of sumptuous food was not to my taste as I am a vegetarian. So I had some fruits and soft drinks and went home. However i was happy for those who were tucking into them with relish! siva
