$500 more to go!

Perth, Australia
September 9, 2016 11:58am CST
I made a goal for myself to try and save $2000 before Christmas. These savings are for my trip to Texas. I would like to save more than that for the actual trip but wanted to see if I could at least reach this goal before coming to the end of the year. I've saved $1500 so far. Every time I get a bit of money, I split it up for different things. I give some to my dad for rent and extra to pay back what I owe him which is...A LOT! I leave some in my purse for my spending money or emergencies. And then the rest is for my Texas trip. I have to finish my nail course first before I go to Texas but the money is also a major key on getting there. And of course....the horrible plane rides there. So terrified! I'm just really happy and proud of myself for getting my life a bit more back on track as well as really saving for something I'm yearning to do. Have you got any goals that you'd like to achieve before the end of the year?

My goal is to stay alive and happy. When it comes to money I have just enough to pay bills and live on what I get, not much left over to save but at least I have food on the table, roof over my head and wheels to get me from here to there when I need to.

@rebelann And YOU are a grateful person! I admire that! It's always a refreshing thing to hear people just being happy with how things are! I've known quite a few people who seem to have a lot going for them but still remain dissatisfied.

Every time I try to set some goals my life turns upside down on me and I'm back to square one. I kind of give up on goals now... =( Now if we can pay our bills each month I am grateful for that! Congrats on doing so well with your savings!

@VivaLaDani13 That is very true. We have been homeless-with young children and people have NO clue what it's like. I am now grateful when we have a place to live and we can pay our bills. We know what it's truly like to have absolutely nothing.

@LovingMyBabies Aw man that sucks! I'm sorry that it hasn't been easy to achieve goals. Makes me feel bad! I am glad that you can be grateful for something like paying the bills though. Not too long ago I heard someone complaining about spending their money on bills and I was thinking it's better to spend your money on bills from living in a house than having no money and living on the street! Thank you very much!

@LovingMyBabies I am very sorry that you even experienced that though! But so glad that you are not in that position anymore! You can truly say you understand what it's like and be grateful for what you have now.

If you can manage to save around $30-$35 a week between now and Christmas, then you'll reach your goal... It comes down to around $5 a day... Go girl!

@VivaLaDani13 No worries... This kind of thing is almost automatic to me anyway... My kids just roll their eyes sometimes when I always blurt out numbers on them... Glad you didn't do that (at least I didn't see it if you did... ) Now, go to sleep girl!

You're almost there - keep on going!!! I've got too many goals at this point . . . but since it's nearing the end of the year, if I can survive all the holidays that are coming up (with all the shopping, events, etc), then I'll be satisfied with that!

@MALUSE That's exactly right. I actually like to make one goal at a time or a few goals that are very achievable. Otherwise I do feel like crap! I have things I need to do which are a "take it as I go" sort of thing but my main goal is saving that money which I'm highly determined to do. And I know I can. But if I don't then yeah I may cry lol but still, I know I will!

@MALUSE I do see where you are coming from. Because having a time frame or having those goals incomplete can possibly stress a person out more. I guess for me personally, the reason why I like having goals is because it makes me feel good once I've completed them.

Great job at saving money. Why Texas? You may have already posted it and I didn't see it. I have never really set goals for myself because nothing ever seems to go as planned for me so I like to just do things on impulse provided I can afford to do so.

@Happy2BeMe I've already been fascinated with Texas since a young girl. I liked the whole western type of theme. And few years ago I met someone online who is just my bestest friend. And funny enough lives in the exact location I want to go. So can go there and meet him too! I am sorry that it doesn't always go as planned! I hate when that sort of thing happens!

Wow, I'm doing something similar too! Good for you! You keep on saving money like good calculating and you'll definitely reach your goal by the end of the year. I'm saving money for the North Bengal trip for 7 days I plan to take in March 2017. I need 10k rupees including all the cost and extras. I don't earn yet so I'm saving a third of my pocket money every month. Also with mylot and another online writing website, I can make a payout of 1.5k by February. So in that way, I will have half of the expenses by the start of the trip. Hopefully my dad will pay the other half. He would have had huge difficulty to pay for the whole expenses otherwise.

@VivaLaDani13 Thanks Dani. I will in another 4 months. Yesterday during a Twitter pitch contest, I did get a fave for my 2nd ms from an editor at a Canadian pub company. So it's something to look into it. As for an editor and Smartphone, I think the phone might come first. But I'm making money with Upwork so far to get me there...

You are 3/4 the distance so it should be sort of a cake walk. I don't set any goals as every day is different for me with challenges to overcome. However, I try to save all the time keeping the expenses less than income - siva
