Does your workplace give Christmas bonuses?

There are places that give cash bonuses, some give turkeys, some treat the staff to dinner and others give nothing. Does your place give you anything for Christmas? We go out to dinner the week before Christmas. We usually get $100 Christmas bonus with our last pay before Christmas along with a box of candy of some sort.

@Tina30219 Yes it was a great way to get all my Christmas shopping done and not have the added stress of trying to stretch my paychecks any further then I already have to.

Where I last worked (oh gosh, that was about 12 years ago), but boss was pretty chinsy. When I worked there initially, we did get cash bonuses. But then he got "smart" and gave us all frozen turkeys. Back then I didn't have a family and I gladly took in food (though cash would have been nicer) . . . but the employees who did have families who needed the money didn't appreciate the turkeys. And years later as I became the only employee, we just exchanged presents, I guess the "nice" present counted as a bonus.

We use to exchange gifts for quite a few years but we stopped about 3 years ago now because some people did not want to participate in it.

@Happy2BeMe With me being that one employee, sometimes I didn't want to participate in a gift exchange either - as it was only with my boss' wife (the other boss). But I can see how some people don't want to do the exchange or secret santa thing.

@much2say Some just found it to be too stressful trying to buy a gift for somebody else. I always enjoyed it.

I worked in only one place that did Christmas bonuses. That was nice. All the other jobs I had, didn't do anything. That's a nice Christmas bonus.

We are given the mandated 13th month pay , half of which was given last June and the other half this week . Then , usually bonus is being given on the last day before the Christmas vacation . It depends on how much income the company made .

I will know for sure in a few days if our employer is still giving out a Christmas bonus-they only do it when business is good. They give you $50 per month of service, but for me it isn't the number so much as the pure generosity of the act. Last year I didn't know a thing about it until the day that the bonus was to be issued, by direct deposit, our owner sent us a nice email telling us about it and thanked us all. And then in January he will host a huge all expense-paid party. I didn't go last year but my hubby and I may go this year.

As I started working in a new company in March this year, I still don't know wether we recieve something. My collegues told me that they recieved a bottle of champan each and you get some extra money if you work the holidays. Years ago, many companies paid fourteen budgets during a year, an extra budget in May and another in December. But, with the economical crisis this got lost and many companies reduced it to twelve budges and the salaries went down.

I used to work for a place that gave hams, last year I did get a huge bonus, but that was not normal (something as part of a buy out bribe to keep people from leaving) this year I am a sub who works when she wants, so no bonus there

One of my former jobs was at an insurance agency. Our boss would take us out to dinner at some posh restaurant. We would exchange gifts (we all got a name of someone to buy for) and then our boss would hand out envelopes. We each received an extra week's pay as a bonus, and his paychecks were quite extraordinary. How I miss those days!
