It Wasn't As Gross As I Expected

I bet you are wondering what aren't you? Hubs and I moved the stove today. I am pretty sure it has been more than 10 years since we have moved it. I expected it to be really bad and to find lots of missing cutlery and things under it but there wasn't even one. It was dusty and a little dirty but I vacuumed it and then hubs scrubbed it. What was worse was the sides of the stove where things have dripped down from the counter top but I cleaned it all off and now it is back in place. I feel good knowing that it is done. Next, the fridge!!

I cannot move the stove, it's a built in stove top, I clean it every time I cook. I moved the fridge last week, I am glad it has small wheels, because I clean behind the fridge every 3 months.

Our is a huge side by side one and it has no wheels so it is going to be a challenge to move.

@BelleStarr Those big fridge are almost impossible to move. Our is a big fridge but not a side by side and it has small wheels on the back, You lift a bit the front and you can pull the fridge so to clean behind.

My fridge is always worse than the stove. I think I can pull the drawer out of my stove to vacuum. I think I will go look and maybe get it done....or not.

I am afraid to move mine, as I am not sure what to expect under there. Since I live alone I will have to have either my son help me move it or have my ex move it on the holidays, as he will be here then. None of us really expect to move it, as no one sees under it anyway, but just the thought of maybe something being under there that shouldn't be, has me thinking about mine now.

@BelleStarr I am going to have to replace my fridge and my dishwasher, but right now, I can't afford to, and I refuse to use any credit cards, as it just makes it easier to get back into debt, and I certainly don't want that at all. If I can't get them any other way, I will have to, and pay them off as soon as possible.

I am going o be needing a new stove in the foreseeable future which is one reason that we decided to move it.

You must feel so good that it's nice and clean now. We have built in double ovens and a rangetop in CT, so no worries. The fridge is built in, too, but the vents are at the top, so no dust.

@BelleStarr I don't have that in Florida, for sure. My kitchen at home cost us more than our condo. LOL!

That's wonderful! I usually find missing covers as the bottom is a storage drawer. This stove is a tight fit so it would be hard to get it moved out to get anything from under it. Have fun with the fridge.

lol It wasn't easy to move the stove, we had to open the door and both of us pulled on it.

@BelleStarr No doubt I would need to do the same as it's really tight between the counter and the wall.

The sides of the stove do get yucky don't they? I don't think we can get ours out without a major todo. It's connected to gas pipes etc.

@BelleStarr I need to clean behind our stove as well. I am quite certain that the sides will be horrible. I think I will tackle this during the Christmas break. Good luck with the fridge!

I did that a couple of months ago and we were hoping to find a missing knife there, but we didnĀ“t. But I had to get something for the grease.

I'm glad that it wasn't as bad as you thought it would be. I have had to do that with both the stove and the fridge before and it isn't a lot of fun.

@BelleStarr It does give you a sense of accomplishment. When I was younger and would rent a house, I always cleaned it first. That included the stove and fridge. There were times when it was just nasty.

Ha, are you doing these cleaning jobs because of James' recent post? Our stove is brand new two years ago, so I know it shouldn't be that bad under there. What we do need though is someone that can apply some countertops and backdrops inexpensively so the surrounding area can be completed. The person working on it told us to sand the old wood down and then he'd return, but we just don't have the extra time, nor do we own a sander.

@BelleStarr I found the post I was referring to.
I wrote recently about the dusty, dirty tops of refrigerators and how they can be out of sight and our of mind. Many myLot writers responded and agreed that it...

Yes, we moved often in our early years and it always shocked me to see the sides of the stove. I never remember spilling anything but it was always full of drips and runs!

I would be way too scared to move mine. I don't know how many people lived in my apartment before me, but I'm sure it wouldn't be pretty to see what they left behind.
