The cranberry covered casserole dish pictured here was purchased by us in a Hospice store for $2.00. The price is great for this cranberry casserole dish, as most realize. It has a cover, which is always nice. The smaller size is ideal for leftovers or small dishes. It holds just 24-ounces, which is also a good size for warming soup! Frequenting thrift stores has led us to some amazing finds over the years. We love using the cranberry color with other items we have. The photo of this cranberry casserole dish was taken by me to share here. Just checked Amazon and saw a casserole dish the same style, but it is one quart and $34.45. Have you found any good buys in your local thrift stores?

I have 4 of these dishes, they are pyrex I believe and not old but I love them they are so useful, I have a really large one maybe 4 or 5 quarts. I found three pieces of Pampered Chef stoneware at the Goodwill for a very good price, about 10% of list.

@PatZAnthony lol Lucky for us smart shoppers they do. I can't wait to get to Florida, there are lots of great thrift shops around and we go out adventuring and looking for great deals.

Love those deals! We have some pampered chef items that were in the boxes, packed as new, found in thrift stores. Wonder if people give nice things as gifts and receiver just has no use for such things.

I used to have one just like that, and now you've got me wondering what happened to it? I wonder if I packed it up in that box I donated to the Vietnam Veterans. Hey, maybe that was my casserole dish!

Ohhh, is this a Pyrex? I used to have one glass sauce pan in this color which was a Pyrex . . . I loved it but as I didn't use it for a long while, I gave it away . . . and now I wish I had it back! Your $2 treasure is a great find . . . Pyrex's get sold pretty quickly at thrift stores as they are of good quality. My last greatest thrift shop buy was a cute dress for $1.59!

@PatZAnthony I imagine thrift shops have an overload of stuff they just need to get rid of. The people there don't know worth - they just want things to move out so they can sell more stuff. And seems like the people who donated the item did not understand it's worth either. But it becomes a lucky find for folks like us!

Sad to say, the stores here always have glass items for a bit of nothing. We purchased a pie plate with a green tint for 25 cents. We know this is vintage and worth so much more.

That looks like the cranberry glass that's so popular in my part of the states. Whenever I go to Cape Cod, I try to find a piece that I can afford, but usually come home with nothing. That's a real beauty!

There is also some cranberry glass that is decorative and collectible. These pieces for Visionware were/are used for cooking and serving. We have some of that cranberry glass you mention. We should upload a photo and do a post! Thanks for the idea.

that's pretty. i usually look for the old "cornflower" pattern that came out around the early 70's. mom had them originally and i've been expanding what she had.

I love the color, I've never seen the Cranberry or the green, (except in the Corning museum) They are gorgeous. I shop at the thrift stores all the time. I always look at the dishes and the jewelry. I buy beads and use them in my art. I also look for jeans to wear while I paint. I also collect Occupied Japan so I look for those too..

We check local stores here on a regular basis. Fortunately, we have purchased silver, gold, china and more at a fraction of what these items cost new.

I have a similar dish, but I expect it cost more than that (it was a gift). I've made some great finds in thrift stores, though!

That $2 casserole dish is very likely worth a lot more than you paid for it. Colored glass is a hot collector's item. Way to go! I found a brand new Chanel blouse, tags still on it, in Scottsdale, AZ years ago. I paid $99.00 for a $999.00 silk blouse. I still have it and wear it.
