My first day in Tenerife

The flight to Tenerife was quite a surprise because I am accustomed to aircraft being full. You do occasionally see a couple of empty seats on the plane, but certainly nothing of this calibre. In fact, there were only about 25 passengers on the whole flight.
It cannot be viable for an aircraft to be so sparsely occupied, especially for a 4.5 hour flight on a budget airline. The return flight only cost me about £70 and the fuel consumption alone must have been horrendous.
Took a quick explore around the area today, which seems quite a pleasant place. With the temperature about 21C it definitely makes a pleasant change from Manchester in January.

I do not have to go to Tenerife to enjoy that kind of climate. I am getting it right where I am posting this to you
But there could be something else there that I will not get here. What's that?

Any idea why there were not many people on the plane? The time of year with children back at school maybe?
Are there many people there where you are now or is it quiet too?

@mysdianait I chose the North purely because I had not been before.

@Asylum You went there for that reason or because you had not yet visited that place?

Have a great time there its a lovely place to be in. Maybe they cannot afford to go on Holidays seeing as its January and they may have spent their money on Christmas things and all that. You never know.
I imagine it will pick up as the days go by.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Of course many people will find the cost a serious obstacle, but the airlines operate less flights to resorts in January so they still usually become full.

@Asylum
Apart from the usual things that happen in Spanish Airports I can´t think of why they are not flying other than they need the money for something else.
Example I cannot afford to fly at all. Its a tough job to keep the house too. There must be a lot like that that are in a bad money month.

Good week to be away, snow in parts of the country and rain here in Plymouth which is nothing new lol.
Enjoy your time there.
When to Malta once we had a plane like that half empty and again coming back from the USA, only 190 something passages out of 375 I think the flight could carry.

@kevin1877uk This is true, especially mainland Spain.

@Asylum I've known flight not to be full many times, maybe the Spanish islands, maybe different seeing that 95% of the UK seems to go there

21°C, wow.
About the airline, I don't know. I've never travelled by plane.

@sabtraversa When I was 21 I had not been abroad, but foreign travel is more commonplace now.

Sometimes airlines can afford to fly half-empty planes because the airports or destinations they fly to often will pay them incentives to use their airports. Maybe the Canary Islands government or tourist development board contributes fees to the airline to ensure that it has regular flights to and from the islands, even if they are not full flights.

@moffittjc It is virtually unknown on routes such as England no the Canary Islands.

@Asylum I guess you got lucky on this most recent flight! I once flew to New York City on a Boeing 757 that could hold 200 passengers, and there were less than a dozen of us on the flight.

@amitkokiladitya No, I never sleep on a flight. Somehow the flight seemed shorter, although I cannot figure out why.

The flight seems safe and affordable. I like travelling too. The temperature is just right not too hot and not too cold

That was a bit of luck I hope you managed to get a row to yourself? I imagine it will be a slightly fuller flight coming back as most people will be returning to the cold of the UK after their winter break. Have a great time. I like Tenerife! I will be heading there myself in November!
