Maybe I'd like some snow after all

We have a major bushfire only a few kilometres from us in south-west Western Australia. At the moment it is not burning towards us but it is out of control and there is a lot of smoke. It is 42C here today; not a good day to be fighting bushfires. we can hear fire sirens and water bombers are continually going overhead. I don't think we'll be going to watch fireworks tonight. We are not in any danger really unless embers start dropping out of the sky and the wind is blowing the wrong way to make that a threat. Snow is suddenly looking good.

@judyev 42 degrees and you haven't melted yet? You must be tough. I turn to yoghurt at 20 degrees.

@JudyEv I'm enjoying a mild, overcast 6 and it's peruading me into the Car to head for a walk in the forest outside Newcastle and a half hour in a café by the sea.

I don't go outside in it unless I have no option. :) But 20C is a bit low. :)

Oh that's not fun- and hope it rains or something to stop the danger- let us know if it gets worse- This is a growing problem these days around the globe.

Those who were evacuated have only just been allowed back into their homes but the fire is just about contained now.

@JudyEv I am more worried about how many animal homes have been lost. Any word on how it started?

Thanks. Folks have only just been allowed back to their homes. There were a few sheds and contents lost but no houses.

@katsmeow1213 They don't seem to know how it started and yes, many little creatures would have lost their homes.

Anything in access I suppose including snow is not something anyone looks forward to. I too like snow but just a few snowflakes on my head.

Oh, my! Please, do listen to the reports closely! I would prefer you not be caught in a raging fire, Judy! Uhm... how MANY kilometers is "a few"? (Roughly, of course. I don't expect you to get out a tape measure and get it down to the exact mm! Not even the exact mile or kilometer, either, really.... I am just concerned... *sigh!*)

The fire was probably 2 or 3 kilometres (1.2 to 1.8 miles) from us. One area was evacuated and friends from that area are staying with us tonight. The wind has now shifted and we should be 'safe as houses'.

@JudyEv Okay, thank you for the clarification, Judy! I have that "net" set to watch for names and news of people I know, but I'd rather not find out anything happened to someone through it!

@JudyEv I would wither in such temperatures. When it is hot and humid here I rarely leave the comfort of my air conditioned home.

@ElusiveButterfly It's mostly a dry heat here which is more bearable. I stay inside if I can when it is so hot.

That is very fortunate that it is not effecting you! Are others homes effected nearby or is it just woods? You can have our snow here if I can have your sunshine and warmth minus the fires. My son was talking about how cute Koalas are this morning at breakfast and I told him about an adorable video I saw on facebook. A woman looked out her door and saw a Koala. She opened the door and it explored her home and then went back outside and ran off. I wouldn't have expected them to be so friendly around strangers. It made me want to go to Australia!

Koalas are very cute. There have been a number of homes quite near here which were evacuated. Our friends and their two dogs spent a night with us and have only just been allowed to return to their home.

Our county prohibited all fireworks from 2009 through last year because it was so dry and hot, I'm surprised your county(I'm not sure what to call your communities) allows fireworks when it that hot and dry. I think I'd welcome snow too if it were that hot here.

The fireworks are professionally managed and are mostly set over the water so there is little danger in that regard.
