Front Row Center

Going to the live theater and musical concerts is a passion of mine and my husband's as well. We have been subscribers even before we had children. Being season subscribers guarantees the same seat for every show. We always try to get center row orchestra seats. We find them the best. However, we gave up our chamber music, symphony, and other theater subscriptions, because we are away for many performances. Since doing that, we choose the best seats available when purchasing tickets. Sometimes we sat in the upper balcony. Other times in opera boxes. On occasion, we sat on either side of the center aisle. We saw Last of the Red Hot Lovers a couple of nights ago. Our seats were front row center! The actors even gave me a wink and a smile. Our future daughter-in-law received her dream job in September as Education Director of one of the most famous theaters in our area and beyond. She gets all the good seats for herself and our son for every play. She is also the Company Artist/Teaching Artist at an integrated theater and always gets the best seats. She wrote her first play and it was shown last Saturday to rave reviews. I wished we could have been there to see it. Front row center.

Glad to hear that her first play was such a hit! That is wonderful. Too bad you couldn't have been there.

It is too bad. She is full of surprises with her talents and brains. I hope she writes more. My son said it was phenomenal.

I had no idea she was a writer of anything except grants. I'm quite impressed.

I now appreciate being closer to the front and center . . . we can see more details of the sets and actors expressions! It's not often we go live theater, but we want to more often now and are looking into what venue would have the best subscription deals for us! That is a dream job - that is so awesome what she gets to do - how many people get to see their plays come to life like that!!

@DianneN You kinda feel like you're part of the action too, right? Who knows, maybe we'll get to see your daughter in law's play when it comes out to LA!

Being close to the stage is so much better than being in the boondocks for those very reasons. I hope you can find great deals. We are so proud of her. She is amazing!!!

@much2say Yes, for certain! I have to see her play first, before I get you front row center tickets, complimentary, of course, for your family.

One thing I clearly remember. When we were just engaged we would always go for the last row corner seats while watching movies Talking about watching a play in a theater in New York(Broadway Street) we were sandwiched and each time someone wanted to get up it was truly an ordeal as the space was too little for anyone to pass through. To enjoy a play surely one must think of the best seats and you have done well for yourself.

@DianneN That was the biggest mistake. We watched Betrayal a lousy play with just 3 characters and no change in props. We should have watched Lion King which was on those days. But I was happy that I watched a play in the real 42nd Broadway Street about which I had read so much.

Lol! The seats in the theaters on Broadway are tight, but they are much worse in London. My opinion. The newer theaters are built for comfort. Do you remember what show you saw on Broadway? Yes, we lucked out with those great seats. I like to see everything.

@allknowing So sorry you didn't like the play, but at least you can say you saw one on Broadway. There are so many wonderful plays and musicals on Broadway. My daughter-in-law goes to show a week.

My parents had and I think they still do have, front row seats to the Symphony & Opera. Once, they couldn't go and gave the tickets to my husband and I to see one of the Symphonies. We got to sit in their front row seats and it was really nice. It was a great Symphony concert.

That is so awesome!!!! Those seats are so difficult to get, especially when held by season subscribers. I'm sure you loved every minute of it. It's great to be close enough to see everything. I just don't like being up front in a movie theater. Had to do it once. Never again!

@DianneN Sorry I've been absent. Spent the past week and a half packing and moving. I only moved about a mile away from my old place, but it felt like I was moving much farther away! I hopefully should finish everything this weekend. I'm exhausted!

My children were bitten by the acting bug in high school. They love performing in front of an audience. My oldest daughter performed in so many plays while in middle school and high school. She also performed in a couple while in college. Her preference is to now perform as a vocalist.

That is so amazing! Your kids must have been so talented!!!! My older son was sought out by Mickey Rooney after seeing him in a play. As a result, he got the lead in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. My younger son played sax in band. That's the extent of their talent. Lol!

Based on your photo it looks like you had an excellent view. That is such exciting news about your daughter in law's new job as well as her writing her first play. That is amazing to me that you and your husband love plays and your son married a woman who loves them so much as well. What fun date nights they will have going to the plays together.
