What price freedom?

With so many posts about food recently and mention of pineapple in a discussion (sorry, I can't remember whose post it was) I was reminded of the following. When Vince and I were courting, we would go to the drive-in quite often. There were also cabarets and dances from time to time. Sometimes there would be a private party at a house and we had lots of fun times together. But the night he won my heart for all time was when we went to a drive-in in the city. He went off to the kiosk at interval and came back with pineapple fritters and ice-cream. Back then, pineapple fritters were unheard of and these were delicious! I'd never tasted anything so yummy. Yes, it seems the way to my heart was through my stomach, as the saying goes. I sold my soul and my freedom for a pineapple fritter – and ice-cream. Did you sell your freedom at some stage? Photo is us on our wedding day. Do you like the sideburns?

Wow, you look beautiful in the photo. It, the photo, reminds me of some famous couple in a music video clip or a movie.

We had known each other for a few years. At one point we split up for several years but got back together later. It's lovely you fell in love and got married so quickly.

You made a stunning, beautiful bride and I hardly see you have changed looking at your recent photos. Somewhere in our conversation my then fiance may have heard about my craze for Mysore Sandal soap and believe you me I could have started a shop selling Mysore Sandal Soaps that he would bring for me each time we met.

What a lovely picture. It was food that won me over too, but there's more to the story. He was out on disability and wasn't getting paid. He was hanging out with me one night, and I had a craving for a broccoli calzone from a specific place about 20 minutes away. He went and got it for me... Used his gas which he couldn't afford to replace, and his money which he was low on, to go get this for me. It took me a few days before that sunk in... But that's what did it.

@JudyEv Yeah, I've told him.. He says it's the same with me, just small things, like remembering to buy him snacks while I do the grocery shopping. I mean I feel like I'm just doing my job by buying food people in the house want, but he sees it as a big deal.. Thankfully it's the little things that keep him happy! LOL

@katsmeow1213 You can't really know what impacts on a person. We have done very small favours for people sometimes but they are just so grateful. I find it really interesting.

I can completely understand. At the time that would have been a real sacrifice for him - but he did it willingly for you. Does he understand how much it meant to you? I'm just curious really. Sometimes we do something that seems inconsequential but it really has an impact.

Whenever you line up for a photo, people always say 'smile, say cheese' or whatever. You should try a fritter if you ever get the chance. SOOOOO nice!

Oh my gosh this is such a cute wedding photo . . . you both look great (love your smile)!! Sell your freedom . Hubby and I have been together since we were 18 - for some reason we knew would always be together but we didn't make it official until we were 32. I guess we held onto our freedom as long as we could .

@JudyEv - When I was a kid in the 70's, I always wished I could grow some. I tried to grow some chops in the 90's, but I can't grow them properly.

I think that its a great picture, you both look so full of happiness. I remember what got me about my husband, his soft brown eyes, and his way. He is a very kind, gentle and helpful guy and he displayed all of that during the first week after I met him, and I fell hard, no pineapple fritters, but there were flowers.

What a great photo you shared here! I have never had a pineapple fritter, though I love pineapple and we buy several fresh ones every year. I must look fritters up. I had sideburns like that once too. I suppose all who marry give up a measure of freedom once they (we) choose a life-partner.
