Offer Up

Some of you might not be familiar with Craigslist (I have no idea if it is a site used in other countries), but you buy and sell things through it. Some scary things have happened due to people's interactions through craigslist, and I know that scary things can happen through any website where contact information, and possible meetings are shared. However, I heard of the site, offerup.com, and was wondering if any of you have used it. I'm sure weirdos are on every site where people buy and sell things, and you always have to be careful. But I thought I'd ask and see if anyone here has any experience with it. While my dad has bought and sold things on craigslist, I never have. I was thinking about listing a few things on offerup and wanted some input. Where do you guys buy and sell things you need to get rid of, or just make some money? I know @AbbyGreenhill has had some luck on Facebook, how about some of you? I can't have a garage sale because I live in an apartment. I'm not fond of having garage sales anyway. I'd rather go to one than actually have one.

Have you tried the local yard sales on FB? They're on line yard sales that are in your locality. I've bought and sold a few things, but still be careful about meeting strangers. I almost got scammed on another site one time, but haven't done too much on Craig's List. I've bought and sold on FB, but it's really a buyer's market now, hard to get what something is worth when you sell.

I have used Offerup and I have never had an issue. I have never had any issues with Craigslist either. Good luck! =)

There is a thing here called "Nextdoor" which is a private neighborhood group connected somehow to Facebook. I think it's at If you don't have one for your neighborhood, you can create one. My daughter did for a community in Washington, after seeing what we had here (northern Colorado).
Over 150,000 communities across the U.S. are using Nextdoor to strengthen their neighborhoods.

I have used it and it was fine for me Ambie. I sold a dehumidifier I no longer needed on it. And my little portable washer. Both of those things I sold. But you know, I had my son here with me.. If I had not, I would not have used it. It is still a stranger coming to your house. I guess you could meet them somewhere, but then you still should have someone with you. But man it was so quick to sell on there, at least around here. There is also a site called Nextdoor for your neighborhood but not sure if that would be for you. I had never sold on there but see lots of people selling stuff.

I've had very good luck with both buying and selling on ebay. I haven't used any others (and stay far, far away from craigslist!)

I have used offerup to buy and sell on there many times. Have had some great experience with this. Made over $200 on there just in the last week. I never let them come to the house and always meet then in person at a public place.

All of those places pose a problem but I have sold something on Craigslist and got the price I wanted and pretty fast and had no problem. You have to be wise and cautious and never be alone when anyone comes over and make sure you have their contact information before you deal with them. Have their full name and phone number and call back to make sure the phone number is legit. Be careful!

I don't think that we have the craigslist here in Canada, and I am not familiar with the offerup site. We have something similar to both of those, yet a little different. We had a site, freecycle, which was thru yahoo, where you gave or spoke for things others were giving away. I only used it a few times, but it was nice to keep things out of the landfill by reusing them. Good luck with this site.

I have never had the need to use any of those sites. We donate things we don't want and they are either picked up by a charity shop or dropped off there or at Goodwill.

I can't help you but we have a local FB page where people buy and sell things. That works quite well for us.

I have not sold or bought anything on here but seems just as legitimate as Craigslist. I usually dot the local facebook groups although some of those folks can be super unreliable!

I use Craigslist a lot. So far I have had no trouble with it. I do a lot of sales and post them on craigslist. I alos have my plants listed there and so far things have been good.

Haven't heard of offer up. I know of some people who use Craigslist - who will take a friend with them, or have a friend over when meeting someone to buy/sell ... I have had some luck on Facebook's "garage sale" sites in my area though
