I bet few doer peole can say a parent never 'made you eat 'some thing you really did mot ike e'and you stilll do not like that food., I wish parents would noit use foods to punish kids with as lots of good foods become off limits' because of being forced to eat them With me it w as grapefruit as te ones they alwaus use were small ver sour yellow grapefruit' As an adult I found pink grape furot andi love tem so good. Aso I was made to sit for ours because I did not like the heavey tasteless oatmeal my dad had to hav it cooked til no moiostiure was left i had to force myself as an older person to eat'oatmeal' as most mae it the n iorma thickness, I beg and implore parents not to use foods as punishments ' because you have some very odd gtastes.Tea ch kids to love good nutritious foods. This kinda reminds me of my aunt. I guess when she was very little, she hated green onions . . . so her parents and siblings made sure she never had green onions in her meals (and there is a lot of it used in Japanese foods). Apparently she still does not like green onions but wishes she did . . . and she blames it on her family for not exposing her to it.

Our taste buds also change with time, Patsie. I hated cauliflower when I was a child and now I love it.

The only food I really was made to eat was green beans. I would hold my nose, and eat them quickly.

When my children see something they think they won't like I tell them to try it. They have to take 2 bites of whatever it is, if they still really do not like it I don't make them eat it. My children only have a couple things they really dislike and I won't make them eat those things.

That's very good advice So many people have issues with food and some of them are definitely caused by parents' punishments or even just mistakes

@Hatley In my case my mam made me finish my meals because she (like most people) didn't understand that stopping when you're full is far more important than not wasting food. Sadly now I have a difficult journey ahead of me trying to teach myself to know when I'm full and how to stop eating. She also used food as a comfort, which is very common, so now I tend to turn to food when I have negative emotions that I don't know how to deal with. I'm trying my best to not do that with Leonard

We were never forced to eat anything but when my mom cooked a meal we were expected to eat it. There was always plenty of food so there were choices. We didnt go hungry.

@Hatley that is terrible. I had a friend whose dad was like that. I was visiting her house one time and her sister tried to hide her peas because she didnt like them. When her father found them he took her in another room and beat her. I could hear her screaming snd crying. I never went back there.

My grandmother would make me eat squash. I hate the texture to this day. Ugh!

We were expected to eat the food put in front of us even if it was something we didn't like. I think my parents eased up a bit over time but there were some really unpleasant moments. I do understand that they had to deal with food shortages we never experienced growing up. There are still things I really don't like all the way from childhood.

I never forced my kids to eat food that they did not like. I did not like that when it was done to me.

I would never force food on my kids, or any other kid as we all have different taste.

I never punished my children with food. If they didn't like it, I didn't fix that particular dish. Eventually, their taste buds change, just like mine did throughout the years. We were never made to eat foods, we didn't like.

@Hatley When I cooked dinner, it was a known fact my son wouldn't eat anything associated with beans or peas. I would just fix other vegetables, that my children both liked! Now, Chad loves bean soup and baked beans, too!

One of my acquaintances hates foods with eggs, because his father used to force him to swallow some scrambled egg dish.
