I sometimes get hit with the holiday blues. I thought this year it woud be different with all that I went through this year but tonight it hit me. All I feel sad. I miss my mom and dad and the way Christmas use to be. I miss my kids being little. I miss my family who are away from me. Best just to go to bed and hope tomorrow will be a much better today. Does anybody else suffer from the winter/holiday blues?

I miss my parents during the holidays and it makes me reminisce of the time we spent Christmas together when they were still alive. But I don’t get the blues anymore. I have my own family now and they make me happy. I get depressed on my birthday though.

@toniganzon That is so sad. I am so sorry. You lost both your parents on the same day?

Some people do go through this seasonal depression. You should try not to dwell on the past, but on the wonderful family you have now and the new memories you will make together, all your own and all new. Will you be included in this year's festivities unlike last year? You have it so much better than others less fortunate. You have your lovely children and fabulous grandchildren. I hope this passes. I don't celebrate Christmas, but feel blessed for having such loving sons, a fabulous husband, and of course, my darling grandchildren. That's all I need to be happy and cheerful every single day of my life.

Feeling better today. I am blessed. This surgery has taken a lot out of me both physically and emotionally. They warned me i would have days like that. It is hard to control emotions sometime after such a major life changing surgery. I dont remember being excluded from festivities last year. I spent it with my kids.

I used to get them, but I don’t know if I do so much anymore, or if it’s just the general winter blahs (seasonal affective disorder). I’m sorry you’re feeling down.

Aww Laurel, I remember you feeling like this last year. We need you, and we are thankful that you are here to celebrate this year after all that you've been thru. Remember that. I do go thru a low, mine usually starts anytime after Christmas. Our daughter's birthday would have been on February 16th, and her anniversary is on March 2nd, and that is why I get low. Its all of the I wonder if's......that run thru my mind and emotions. And then I look down at my hands, and when I see the rings on my fingers I think of how much I love and adore my husband, and our son, and it somehow eases my low feelings just a bit. The 3 of us all tend to need each other more during that time of the year then any other time, and we all lean on each other then. I would like to think that your parents are looking down on you and your family and smiling. If you were mine I would be.

I'm sorry you feel like this. I am lucky I'm sure that I don't get to feel like this although I do wish our two sons were a bit closer. They seem even farther away at Christmas.

My parents are gone and I do miss them, but I still have my kids (only 1 has moved out, but lives close) and my hubby. I'm sure the day will come when it feels lonely and sad.. but that day is a ways off. You'll be able to see your grandkids, right? That will make it feel better.

My sister does but she suffers from depression. For me don`t, I accept what is now and I chose to be happy with it, why? Because I cannot go back in time nor can I change how things are.

Yes, I suffer from the holiday blues every year. I get depressed remembering how unhappy my dad made the holidays for us when we were kids, along with sadness for the life I thought I would have but didn't...the children I had hoped to one day celebrate Christmas with, who will never exist. This time of year is always hard for me, but I am trying not to dwell on those things this year.

I'm sorry to hear it. Yes. I get it this time of year too. We are ostracized from extended family and the thought that keeps going through my mind is that I am a - sister, an aunt, a niece, and a cousin. But none of those people care enough about me to even know me. This year is a little harder than most. But have my parents and we're close so that's a nice thing. You are still special to your kids - even if they're grown and you're special to quite a few here on my lot
