We are Buying Our Forever Home Tomorrow

Yes, it is time for another home for us. We already have one large home in Connecticut and a condo in Florida. But it's time to buy at least one more home.
We have an appointment tomorrow to look at land. We want our forever home to be on a nice flat piece of property in our home state of Connecticut. I'd like some pretty shade trees on the property, too.
Our forever home won't be over 5000 square feet. No, not at all. It will be very, very small and six feet deep. My husband and I want to be close to each other, forever. Our religion doesn't allow cremation.
Have you bought your forever home, yet?

No, I want to be cremated. Good luck with finding the plot you like.

No we have not but it is something we need to do especially after what I went through last year. It is good to be prepared and not leave it to the family to make the arrangements when they are grieving.

From the title, I really didn't see that coming. I thought you were selling the house you have and buying another house where you would live until you breathed your last.
My religion allows cremation and so that is my choice but I saw something on the news today that excited me. If it was what I think it is then I might not die.

@DianneN Yes, it would be nice to go from getting older and sick to getting younger and healthier.

Good to see you here. The last I saw you was around April 26. Hope all is well with you.
And now you are thinking of a forever home. Here in India more and more are thinking of cremation and a niche for the ashes. There is also a trend here for the shroud concept where the coffin does not go with the body. The church will provide the coffin. This is for saving the environment as coffins do not disintegrate fast.

yes. its a big urn of which i have that hubby is already in our religion don't mind our ashes going together and i guess either one of our kids will keep it or spread it. who cares. we are not really going to be there anyway. it is for them to decide. not our comfort theirs. i do hope you find a lovely spot for both your remains though. it is what makes you most comfortable that counts only

Oh my gosh . . . at first I was thinking it was a typo to say a six feet deep home . . . but obviously I got the wrong meaning of forever home . Ah - THAT forever home. We are still thinking about it. Technically my parents have 2 "extra" plots at their forever home - which was for my sister and I before we got married - it over looks a harbor/ocean area. But now that we are married - we need to figure out where our own forever homes will be. I assume whatever/wherever it will be, we will be cremated.

@DianneN I just figure wherever our forever home will be, we'll meet up with everyone somewhere in forever land someday . Good you found the perfect spot! My dad's family literally took up part of a hill when a new cemetery opened by that harbor area . . . they got a deal on it because so many in the family bought up a block of plots. Isn't it surreal though - to see the spot when all are still alive?

It does get complicated when kids are involved. They want to make their own arrangements when the time comes. Cremation would be less of a hassle, but we can't do that. Anyway, we found the perfect spot and will receive the deed and bill in the mail. lol

No, I hope to be capable of simply walking that last stretch of my days up the mountain side where no one will find me then in a few centuries if man survives they'll find my bones somewhere up on the mountain side and will be baffled how I got there.

Our son told us that he'd keep our ashes in an urn and keep them forever if we could be cremated. That made me tear up. We bought a lovely plot and decided who will be on the right and left, just how we sleep in bed. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust....it's all the same to me when we are no longer here.

I plan on being cremated so I don't need a forever home .
Your post went in an entirely different discussion than what I expected. I really thought you were buying another house

Lot yes, about to build a home there too. And it's just a small property too.
We started buying properties 4 years ago. One condo we though our son would use, but we decided to sell that one as I don't want my son to be away from me at the age of 13. We own three lots in different places. Sold just one home too.

Sounds good. I want that forever home. But here in my country we must be cremated whether we want it or not.

Oh goodness girl, you had me going for a second! I was wondering how you would balance living in THREE different houses! Okay, now I get it! I hope you and your husband find the most beautiful location for your forever home!
By the way, I haven't spoken to you in like forever. I hope you're doing well!

It took me almost two reads to get your gist. I was mulling over why you would say 'six feet deep' when I finally figured it out.
No, we've not done that yet. Cremation is almost as expensive as a regular burial these days, so not sure what way we will go.

@DianneN possibly only 1-2grand less, but it may depend on what services the family requests.
