Ah, THAT man!

At one of my new workplaces, there was this young man whom I was very sure that I had met/seen him somewhere else before. But however hard I tried to remember, I just couldn't figure out the where or when I had first seen that guy. I had given up, telling myself,
- 'perhaps I had met him before while working for company X, Y or Z?'
- 'perhaps I bumped into that guy in the past at one of the local stores?'
- 'perhaps the guy just had a unique look like others from his ethnic group?'
I happened to chat to him one day last week. Suddenly he did something unusual: he was twisting a very pretty eternity ring on his finger. AND that was when things clicked (not right at once though): he had done exactly that, twisting that same ring with a serious (sad) look on his face, sitting opposite to where I was (standing) on a crowded train during peak hours half a year ago.
(I had thought he was about to give his wife a surprised gift that day in the form of that eternity ring, I was wrong then! Must be a ring given to him by his wife instead. The ring looked very new to me.)
Have you ever seen men wearing eternity rings? Do you like wearing rings and finding yourself twisting the ring around and around unconsciously? (I do it often (consciously) re: playing with my rings if I happen to wear any at the time.)
---
NB. Eternity ring is often given to spouse by the other spouse (from some wiki on the internet, after one year of marriage). Mine never gave me one after our many years with each other, hence my fascination with it .
---
Images from PixaBay (I did use Windows Paint to play around with a Pixabay pic & a pic of a 'very low price" eternity ring from China, found on Ebay) . Hope it is OK with the rule of this site.)

I think its more of a commitment ring, maybe they are not married but committed to each other and maybe live together.

Long time ago, I think eternity ring was given to the wife by loving (and prosperous) husband after a fair amount of years marrying to each other. (Well, he must have run out of idea of what to buy for the wife, so people created that idea .) These days, I read from the internet, after one year of marriage is good enough to give each other an eternity ring (and perhaps after that, they could safely divorce each other??? )

I am most of the time lost into my thoughts and I do not recognize close friends in the streets, except if they jump in front of me. On the opposite, I can recognize a shape of a Roman ceramic that I have not seen since 30 years. I guess I have a higher interest for pots than for humans.

I wasn't sure what you meant by "eternity ring" so looked it up. Here's a pic for others who also don't know.

Is an eternity ring the same as a wedding ring? I only wear my wedding band - I have the jeweled ring stashed away because I'm afraid of losing it. I never take it off, but it is so thin that I can't really twist it (it's a part of me, almost feels like a tattoo ).

I lost my engagement ring years ago and have another in its place. I have a wedding ring and one Vince bought me for my 70th. I'm not wearing it at the moment as I 'lost' for several days while we were travelling so I won't wear it again till I can get it made a fraction smaller.

@YrNemo I am 72 and Vince is 71. I'm not really into jewellery, not if I have to pay a lot for it. I bought a really pretty watch for $1.96 landed from China and it works beautifully. I might suss out their rings and buy myself a dozen.

@JudyEv sshhh... I got a pile of them here, from Ebay! They mix with my expensive genuine gold rings, and now I can't tell which is which any more . (Perhaps the people who sold me the genuine gold, happened to con me by selling me fake rings from China too? )

@sol_cee Only thought about it at home when the two images suddenly superimposed. He seemed to be sad, perhaps something to do with that ring so perhaps I shouldn't mention it. (But being me, I will try to find out the mystery, why he looked sad, why he had that pretty ring. I thought men wore only signet rings!
His is not, and it was not on his pinkie finger.)

I don't have an eternity ring. Did you ever figure out where you knew the guy from?

Saw him from the train, just a stranger who looked a bit odd, wearing a pretty eternity ring, and he played with it, to my envy .

So you each noticed the other during a train ride six months earlier?
I've only ridden on trains inside playgrounds/amusement parks, so was more interested in what was going on outside the train than the other passengers. On occasion I have spoken (quickly) with someone else on the train but not enough to have remembered them by the next day. I certainly wouldn't have been focused enough on them to have noticed them playing with a ring they were wearing!
If I am not the driver of a vehicle then I am immersed in a book so pay little to no attention to others around me.
I find it remarkable that you each paid attention to the other enough to remember the other person at a later date.

My big sister did that all the time (especially when she was a very shy teenager. She bit the tips of her long hair, pretending not to notice guys who tried to flirt with her.).

I don't wear jewellery often but sometimes I'll twist/play with a ring or earring if I happen to be wearing one for some reason. I have never given jewellery to a man.
