This story is true and totally insane!

When I saw the title of the article, it just threw me for a loop how evil some people can be! I read it and I am still shaking my head! A male golfer gets into an argument with another golfer and bites the guy's thumb off to the knuckle! This happened at a golf club in Massachusetts. The police were called and the victim was taking to the hospital. An update on his condition is not known. Hopefully, his thumb can be reattached. The police don't know exactly what was argued about. They don't know if alcohol could have been involved. The guy who did the crime was arrested with a charge of mayhem. He could get 20 years in jail. When I read it, I thought, "Really, is a game that important?, is it worth going to jail for something as insignificant as a game?, is it worth injuring a person just because of being a jerk who probably has no sportsmanship ever?" It is just sickening to think about how some people are! Gross!
An argument between two golfers at a Massachusetts golf club turned bloody Friday when one of the men bit off the other player’s finger, reports said.

I have never heard of 'mayhem' as a legal offence. Mind you we've just had a national cricketer prosecuted for 'affray' which is an equally ridiculous term.

It said in the article that there is "arrest for mayhem" in the laws of Massachusetts.

@MALUSE Technically "an instance of group fighting in a public place that disturbs the peace" in UK law but I think the American mayhem might be more serious.

Some people have difficulty on controlling their temper. He must have been regretted it. Too bad for the victim. At the very least, it's better that only part was taken and not his whole life. The one doing the crime shall pay the prize.

I think the main problem in here is that they allowed anger/hatred get into their minds and never thought of the consequences if they follow their tempers rather than compose themselves and talk it out whatever they were arguing about. When anger takes over you you cannot think clearly and you would always do something that you would regret doing after anger has subsided.

Yes, some people do not think about the consequences of their actions.

He gives new meaning to the word idiot! I suppose the other golfer is lucky however, that the guy did not start beating him with the golf club. It could have been worse.

I can't imagine he could do anything so cruel. It is very inhumane of him to do so.

I agree, it is very inhumane, especially the anger being over a game.

I will catch flak for this, but I blame such incidents on the "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing!" mentality that has invaded sports at all levels over the years, from Pee Wee Football and Little League Baseball to what used to be friendly rounds of golf. This sports philosophy came from UCLA Coach Red Sanders, who uttered this and a similar quote back in the 1950s. Many think Vince Lombardi coined the phrase, but he probably heard it from Sanders. @LeaPea2417 ~It doesn't have to be just golf. Some people are just wound to tight and blow out and sometimes act out over any number of things. Unfortunately, with our bigoted President in the U.S.A., bigoted people are going crazy and call the cops over really stupid stuff, you can see it a lot on the Internet. People are getting unhinged. The race issue came to surface and idiots think that they can do anything against other people of other races, religions, gender, ect. In the future, I think that people will look back at this time and consider this as a very unfortunate time in our history.

Stuff like that is just vicious. I remember a story about a boxer biting his opponent's ear off. Why do people sink to that level of depravity? It is sickening.

I have heard of mike Tyson biting his opponent's ear - and a famous footballer biting another during the World Cup games some years ago. I also read of a man who bit the dog that bit him. Who knows - maybe these biters are half animal or part vampire.
