Quibble, Grumble & Moan

Some members delete their posts the moment they have accumulated the desired number of Likes and Comments. I’ve tried to understand their way of thinking but without success. What is behind the wish to start afresh all over again? Sometimes even several times in a writing career? Search me, I don’t get it.
Others save all the posts they have ever written on the different sites they’ve been on and use them again if the sites have given up the ghost - as many of them have done over the years (sometimes without paying the members the outstanding amount of their earnings. [Some of you know who I’m referring to.]) :-)
I belong to the latter category. English is a foreign language for me and I put some effort into my writing. If I am on a new site with different members who don’t know my posts yet, I see no problem posting them again. Oldies who have known me for many years may skip the posts if they recognise them or read them again and enjoy them another time. :-)
Before I do that, I always check on google if the text appears somewhere else. Sadly, I’ve found several posts which have been stolen and re-posted on obscure sites. Contacting their admins - if there is an address at all - leads nowhere. They never answer.
Some online friends have advised me to sue. Firstly, such sites which post stolen content usually mention no address at all where they can be reached. Secondly, paying a lawyer who is specialised in international law would be absurd to say the least. I’m sure I don’t earn enough money online in a year to pay them for their effort to get a post of mine taken off the site.
So there is nothing left for me to do but quibble, grumble and moan about the meanness of the world.

I guess I should check if my text ever appears elsewhere . . . although the things I write are probably more like journal entries - not worthy to anyone except me . I kept them on whatever site (but never for my own records) - so I don't repost anywhere else (I might bring up a similar topic again though). Deletions - all the other sites I was on are now gone - so there goes that. But here, I never cared to delete until recently. I never look back unless a new comment from an old post appears in the notifications, but sometimes I don't want to go back to that moment. It's done and over - and I do not want to relive it - so I end up deleting it. And now that I'm "getting older" - there are some moments I don't want people to read in case I pass . . . it is of no use to anyone except me - so I delete. One cannot erase the past, but one can delete a post about it .

Well said...I delete every single one of my discussions.
Some sooner than others....exactly because I do discussions in the moment and I don't often care to go back after I feel the discussion is done.
Rather than go back because I've got a "like for like" response, just because I responded to someone else, I remove the discussion which eliminates the like for like thing which I actually hate with a passion...I respond to people because I'm intereted not just for a reciprocal response to one of my discussions.

@MALUSE Your posts are timeless indeed and can be enjoyed by a wider audience. My posts are therapy sessions for me .
Sometimes I wonder if some sites sell the content from their users without their permission . Not legal for sure, but if the site was going to die anyway - they might squeeze whatever they can out of what is left. I cannot remember the situation, but that happening once before - I only found out because someone's post showed us a link of how our posts could be found on another site that none of us had heard of before. I guess it's happened to you a lot . . . must be annoying, but I wonder if it's a bit flattering knowing that people want your posts .

@Mike197602 Yah, I noticed your discussions disappear after a while . I've never told you, but sometimes I'd read your post and then take some time to "think" before I comment . . . and by the time I get back to it, *poof* it's gone!
I don't mind going back to the more "happier" posts . . . but the other ones - eh - I don't want to rehash icky feelings from that time. By deleting the post, I guess it helps to "let it go".
I'm not one for reciprocal responses too. I know I can barely keep up with anything here - so I just can't do that - and I don't expect that from anyone either.

It’s annoying when people take credit for other people’s hard work. I’m sorry for your stolen works.

Pardon my ignorance but how do we search if our old posts in another site are still online?

@MALUSE Thanks for this info :) Will try it later. For now, I'm logging out to pick up a former co-employee for a dinner get-together with other co-employees. Thanks again!

I remember someone of myLot copying one of my discussions and posting it back on myLot. I thought that was very funny. He was not here for long!

When the Bubblews closed, I searched if my posts are still online. But they were not anymore.
So, I posted some of my Bubblews posts in some sites that eventually closed also.

A couple of mine were stolen from this site by another user but others reported them. So that was good.

I've never understood why people delete their posts. I guess they have their reasons.

I had one (that I know of) stolen as well. Fortunately, they were both time stamped, and mine was first. By about a year. So they removed the stolen one.

I always delete my started discussions after a few days.
Not because they've reached the desired amount of likes/responses etc but because I am done with them.
I write very few discussions and when I write them they are in the moment and normally I have some time to get back to people quickly after getting responses.
Normally I have a few hours to stay on the discussion as I like instant back and forth discussion.
After some time I end up repeating comments and then I get bored.
Rather than make a bland comment I'd rather the discussion came to an end.
I normally leave deleting until I have got back to everyone and haven't picked up any new responses for a few hours as I think that is fair.
To each their own, I'll continue deleting all of my discussions when I want to do so and people that want to keep theirs are free to do so
That's the great thing about mylot...as long as you stick within the rules you can do what you want and if people don't like how you do things they're quite free to ignore your posts

I too have had my posts plagiarised and used elsewhere. I would say that they were obviously impressed. On that other site you speak of many of the posts ended up being posted from the far east along with spelling mistakes and even in French/ English. Quite clearly they could not understand either language!

I didn't save my writings from other defunct sites. Your post reminded me to also check if someone had copied it and posted it somewhere else! Too sad!

I save copies of all my efforts, and accompanying photos. Some of them have some good research and my one day come in handy for longer article on the subject. I am with you, I wouldn't bother about legal action over plagiarism, but I wouldn't be happy about it!

Isave all of my posts offline. I was in the process of deleting my posts here for privacy reasons when I gave up and just deleted my account to start over.
