I signed up yesterday and spent the day lurking about. I have read the rules and they seem reasonable and straightforward. That was the easy part.
The hard part is that first post. Stepping into the community. There is a feeling of exposure and vulnerability for me. And yet, I know that one is anonymous here to the extent they wish.
But the community is why I am here, though. Not the money. It seems friendly and well-run. I am glad I happened across this site.
As for the introduction: I like to run. I spend too much time online. I am old enough to be your grandfather.

Welcome to myLot. I think it's awesome that a person of your age (you must be at about 97 if you're old enough to be my grandfather

I didn't start running until I was 65. Now I run about 6 or 7 miles four times each week. I lost a lot of weight prior to the running and feel better and sleep better now.
I have a 5K race next Saturday and have run six 5K races this year.
I signed up for my first half marathon coming up in August. I alternate between being both excited and terrified about the half marathon.

Welcome to myLot! The Guidelines and the Frequently Asked Questions pages have a lot of useful information. It's also worth 'following' @GoAskAlice (the Admin) and @MyLotBugs (the owner) because they post useful and relevant information from time to time. It's also worth looking at the list of discussions posted with the tag "MyLot 101" (see the link below). Tags can be a useful way of finding discussions on a similar topic. The 'Search' menu is worth exploring in that respect.
I understand your feeling of 'rawness' when starting off in a new site. Be assured that you'll soon get the hang of it and feel less of an outsider!
The most useful pages to scan regularly are probably in the 'Explore' menu. 'Most Recent Discussions' is, as it suggests. a list of the latest posts in date/time order with the newest first. 'Hot Discussions' and 'Top Rated Discussions' are arranged according to the most responded to and most 'liked' (respectively). You may find this useful when looking for members who engage in relevant, useful and interesting discussions the best - they are the ones worth following, if you intend to 'follow' anyone! Otherwise, the best advice is to 'hold your nose and jump in'! You'll soon find out who here is worth reading and following and who is not!
Here you'll find discussions related to the term 'mylot 101' as tagged by myLot users.
