How much knowledge is needed for posting a discussion?

Probably none. After all, discussions allow all the involved parties to share what they know or think about a matter so everyone can benefit, gain more knowledge and insight, and generally learn from said exchange. It isn't a school essay where you'll be given a score, where you have to be perfect. Yet, I worry about missing some elements when writing a discussion. But then, adding way too many elements makes the body of the discussion too long, as if it was an essay, "a long statement", and not "the prompt" for a discussion, as it should be. I think a balance must be reached: provide value but also leave space for others to express themselves. I guess this can be achieved by asking a question: you'll give your answer (valuable but hopefully brief) and prompt the readers to do the same. This might imply the best title for a discussion is indeed a question, for which you'll give an answer in the body of the discussion and, again, prompt the readers to do the same. Hopefully, after realizing this, I'm going to post more often. After all, asking a question isn't that hard, is it? Photo source: Pixabay. I like birds and the idea of a book flying like one is plain cool.

I think no need for much knowledge to post a discussion. It's enough to post something that we can relate and understand. And hmm..i get bored long post lol.

@rhuenz Understand?! That's a good word, I should have probably used that one instead. I guess when you understand something, it makes you "knowledgeable" about it. Sorry, I tried my best to keep it short, I swear.

@JimBo452020 I'm not going to call you rude, even if you were to pay me for that. Can't wait for the day you'll reveal the reasons why some shouldn't post.

@JimBo452020 That's one common strategy, for sure. Why don't you want me to post more often?

@sabtraversa I have no idea. Or any idea about common strategy Actually, to be honest I am waiting on someone coming along and calling me rude haha Imagine me not reading the entire post someone wrote Or asking someone not to post There are some on here who shouldnt post for a variety of reasons But thats a topic for another day

I would say it depends on the discussion, its subject, and your reasons for posting it. You wouldn't necessarily need any knowledge beyond knowing that a subject exists. You might be asking a question *because* you don't know anything about the subject. Or you could have some knowledge but want to discuss other people's experience and opinions about it so you can make more informed choices and conclusions to things.

@sabtraversa If you offer suggestions, people may choose one even if they actually don't agree. They'll choose the one closest to their opinion but won't necessarily elaborate or offer alternatives. If you simply ask an open question, you may get fewer answers but they're more likely to be the person's own, often more detailed, opinion.

@pumpkinjam I think people, after seeing the long text, will stop reading and won't even choose. Asking an open question sounds way better at this point.

@pumpkinjam Exactly. I wrote this "discussion" because I had an issue with another I was writing. I think what happened was that I started sharing different opinions about the same matter, a lot of text that would have put most people off and it would have been pretty pointless as I could have easily let others share different opinions, instead of making them choose among those I was going to "suggest".

@marguicha I choose the title first, so it's the other way around for me. If I were to write the discussion first, there would be too many options for a title to choose from, it would be difficult for sure.

@sabtraversa Sometimes I choose a title and then I start to write. And after a while the title has nothing to do with what I wrote.

@marguicha I think I'd just leave the unrelated title there when it happens.

The person writing a discussion on myLot doesn't even have to know how to use a computer or a smartphone. All they have to do is get someone else to write for them... *shrug* Questions can be problematical... if they aren't the right kind.

@sabtraversa A broader genuine interest and conversation within their own posts and in others' discussion is good balance-- if we were to thrive as a community.

@snowy22315 That as well, extra details might be needed if the question is complex, the ultimate goal should always be to have the readers engage or interact, in any case.

I just type whatever comes out of my head . But I do think that at least having knowledge of how the site works helps to make the most out of a discussion posted here .

@sabtraversa Ah, true. It wouldn't be good to get on everyone's bad side either - then you'd be reported all the time and your account would be deleted too !

Checking some discussions I agree, probably none, except knowing how to type, it does not matter if using a phone or a computer. Long posts with too much knowledge are ignored, while very short posts, better if three lines and a question, are often those more successful. A question in the title is a way to get several answers, many only read the title here. Do you want to conduct an interesting experiment? Post a question in the title and a very different content of your text and check who read the posts and who only read the title.

First, knowledge is not measurable. There is no parameter to ascertain the level of knowledge acquired. Secondly, knowledge is acquired on daily basis through the five senses. Therefore, I believe you are actually gathering knowledge when you are not even aware.

@blackstar2022 Generally yes, as we (individually and collectively) acquire more and more knowledge on a daily basis, there's no definite amount and discussions are also part of that process of gathering knowledge. I was thinking more of something like competence, a minimum of knowledge required to talk about a topic, the way doctors need it work in their field.
