Can you recognize this?

I'm not sure people born in the 21st century can recognize this device. I never owned a Sony Walkman. But I sure did have a lot of cassette tapes of my favorite band and singers. I have lost all of them though. Sony walkman was quite expensive those days and I'm not one who listened to music anywhere and everywhere. And my mother thought it was impractical. My father agreed. The very first mp3 I owned though was an Apple iPod shuffle. It's white, no screen, a small stick with circular buttons. It was the cheapest among the iPods in 2005. I don't know why I had it when I rarely used it.

I also never had a walkman, usually using a salon with a blaring voice with a tape recorder.

That is true anyone having those were popular at that time and I also wanted one but I didn't have the chance to have one. I remember my older sister had one but it was not Sony so I borrow from her from time to time but I never had the chance to own one.

@toniganzon I see many of the generations of today might not recognize that anymore especially the cassette tape they may recognize the earphones since they are still used today. But the player will be alien to them.

@rsa101 Yep! The headphones are quite popular for the young ones. The millennial always have them covering their ears or are just on their neck. Especially the huge ones. My son isn't a fan of those though. He uses the Apple AirPods Pro.

I had a Sony Walkman back in the day! I loved that thing, and I took it everywhere. My parents should have invested money in the stock of battery companies, as they probably would have been rich, since I went through so many batteries listening to music all the time! I bought my first iPod in 2006. I still have it, and it still works!

I don't have an idea where the Apple iPod shuffle is now. I think I gave it away.

@toniganzon I still have every version of the iPhone I've ever had as well. I also still have my Blackberry, an LG phone, and a Nokia phone. I have no idea why I save them, but there are all in a box in my closet.

@moffittjc Yeah I think you've mentioned that to me. I've given away my old phones. Not sure why you're keeping them. You can give them back to apple for recycling.

@TheHorse True. Young people used it when they didn't want to be bothered.

@toniganzon To me, they were the beginning of the end. People could walk down the street oblivious to each other.

The last time I used this on the late '90s. Right now my problem on using sony walkman was a battery consumptions. It was very nostalgic thing to remember.

I had one similar to this! I don't think I bought it for myself though. I'd rather listen to my boom box or tape recorder (which was way older). But this came handy when I needed music to myself when skating . . . back in the days when people were using cassette tapes of course. After a CD player, I don't think I ever bought any other latest music player!

Same with me. I prefer listening to our player with huge speakers. I had collected a lot of CD's as well and some of my friends owned a Discman. But really not my thing.

@toniganzon Yes - I like to hear the music all around - not so much directly into my ears. I had one of those CD players that had the tape/radio . . . I don't think I had the Discman.

I remember the walkman, but never owned one. My neighbor did, she liked it. We still listen to cassette tapes, Jay bought a used cassette player not long ago.
