It was a long appointment

The consultation for hyperbaric treatment was about two and a half hours long. Bob is tired now and is in bed asleep. I took a short nap. One thing they have to do is verify for the insurance that his medical problems justify this expensive treatment. Then they do a complete health history, to make sure this will not do more harm than good and to determine if the patient is comfortable with it mentally. All of that passes muster for Bob, but there are about three more people/doctors/agencies that need to give input. About fifteen years ago Bob had an incident that seemed to be a seizure, so they want to speak to the neurologist that he saw. He has a pacemaker/defibrillator so the hyperbaric people need to know if his device can withstand this. Thirdly they need to know if he has fluid around his heart that could compromise the lungs in this situation. This is the most hopeful line of treatment that has been proposed since 2018 when this started. If he gets it, it will be five days a week for six weeks. Each treatment will last about two hours including set up. We are excited and can hardly wait for it to begin.

We are anticipating that it may contribute to healing other situations as well. Studies have shown it to be beneficial for stroke victims, for instance, but insurance will not approve it for that use.

Oh wow! That is some treatment! Will he stay in a hospital for it to be done or will you have to take him to and fro each visit?

I will go to the first treatment, to see how it goes. They say that most people drive themselves.

@JudyEv We got to see the "chambers". This hospital can treat up to two at a time. It is a large glass tube. He has a tv available outside of or above the tube for a distraction. There is a phone they can talk to him through, and listen if he has anything to tell them.

Lucky for us, they will do the legwork of contacting doctors and others for their answers.

I think it is all really dependent on how much fluid is around his heart and lungs.

@GardenGerty Yeah. If there's to much they won't do it.

The big if is about the fluid that might be around his heart and lungs.

Yes. The only dumb questions are the ones that are not asked. For some parts of this treatment there are options of how it is administered.

I hope everything goes well. That's quite an intensive set of treatments. How far would you have to drive for each treatment? Good luck. Have a good day.

It is between thirty and thirty five miles. The first place they were planning on sending us was about sixty miles. Much larger hospital. I like this one better, both because it is closer and the facilities are not so overwhelming and large.

I hope and pray that this line of treatment really works and help Bob heal and feel good. It seems like an extensive testing and all . But it must be worth all the time and effort. Sending positive vibes and thoughts to you. Take care.

This sounds so positive the way we understand it and it is not invasive. We have had so many doctor's visits and emergency treatments for the last six years this seem like very little effort.

@GardenGerty Oh! I see. It must be tiring with so many doctor's visits and emergency treatment. It takes a toll on our mental and emotional well being too. Happy that this sounds promising and with less effort for you. Prayers and thoughts for you

What I came to understand is that the biggest drawback might be from fluid around his lungs and heart. The appointment was good because it was such a free exchange of ideas and health history. The more informed we are and they are, the more success.
